  • York Town Historian, James Kences, and Kevin Freeman visit the site of the Norridgewock Massacre in Madison, Maine on the eve of the 300th Anniversary. Soldiers from York, Maine travelled to the village of Norridgewock in an attempt to eliminate the continual threat of hostilities that persisted for years, unresolved. Scalps of Norridgewock people and Father Rail were taken to Boston for bounty.

    Thank you for your thoughtful work to honor all those who lived, loved and toiled in the past.
    I’ve been tracing my ancestors, and suspect some may have taken part in the Norridgewock Massacre. Definitely lost a few in the French & Indian raids too. Ironically, also lost some ancestors in Indian raids in Jamestown-Flowerdew Plantation Virginia.
