coronation street was brilliant those days and Stan and Hilda were just like any normal English married couple even the singing there was nowt perfect but this was real life /this is when great Britain was great 'no political correctness and brilliant telly and British life plenty of employment ,and we made everything/ we had pubs clubs bingo smoking drinking the turn on the club etc absolutely brilliant
"Whenever I watch these scenes of Hilda and Stan You forget that this a soap opera, the early days of Coronation Street had a lot of comedy moments in them, along with drama of course but Jean Alexander was great whether it be as Hilda Ogden or as Auntie Wainwright she could put on a good performance no matter what."-🤔.🌐🏚🌐.
Bernard Youens was brilliant. I never realised this when I was young. I suppose because of her assertiveness, he had to be understated. There is a vulnerability about him, which from watching these old clips, is brilliantly played. The dressed for dinner scene on a previous clip when Doris Speed pays a visit is a masterclass in subtlety from all three.
Her screen hubby actor Bernard Yuens passed that’s when the TEARS FLEW when Hilda got the glasses back Jean Alexander then decided to leave as it wasn’t viable anymore
I love the bit where Stan asks her if she's skint again and Hilda sarcastically says", No, but I'm down to me last five million. Well of course I'm skint you great chuff!" That's so funny!
1:16 - actually Hilda hated living there in Coronation Street, as she conveys in this classic scene. To claim she was satisfied with her lot in life is a disservice to the character: ua-cam.com/video/H3FwUTFpvI0/v-deo.htmlm16s
Stan certainly was a bit challenged, shall we say, I think, as he was always making huge mistakes. Although the actor was the total opposite and he played the part well.
@purplebanana1000 Not humorous? Norris, Mad Mary, Blanche, Eileen, even Ken and Dierdre's arguments - they've all made me laugh over the last few years.
A fantastic couple that we could all relate to . And two fantastic actors.
They were the subtlest and most talented comedy duo on TV.
That was very well put together. You can tell Thora Hird was a fan of Hilda.
Who wouldn't be? Hilda and Stan were so funny!
1980s
Brilliant acting, great script, funny and sad.... close to perfection.
Wow was she just a classic! I feel like I am a kid again.
Stan and Hilda the greatest soap characters in history nobody in today's show even comes close.
A squirt of channel no5... Class. The script writers deserved a medal as big as a Ash bin lid...
Brilliant! RIP to an iconic character actress who will be greatly missed. She's certainly left her mark!
Rest in Peace, 'ilda!

LOVING Dame Thora's out fit... a symphony of yellow brightening up the cobbles.

Lol @ this. My late Mother loved Corrie, this little clip brings back a lot of memories. Thanks for sharing it.
R.I.P Chuck xxxx
Wish Hilda was still in coro, them was the days.
Hilda ogden was the best funniest character ever on coronation street. Great actress x
1:38 That episode was transmitted on the day that I was born, as I found out a couple of years ago.
Husband passed away 1984

When I see Judy or Richard on TV brings back memories never to be forgotten because they were both stars and populaer in Liverpool and Manchester.
Ooh me muriel love it
This is once what Corrie was about!
Hilda was the best 😂😂
RIP
Love the old stuff fromt'street but the crategg that did t'subtitles wants lokcing 'up
Hilda wasn’t a character, she was a full creation.
“Channel Number 5”. 🤣😂
@flaxonx3 what you are saying is true. story-lines where nothing really happens are far better
The street set is on the brink of being torn down. I was never a Street fan or follower..but it seems a shame to destroy the history.
Cool
What are “Dover soles”??

Jean and types would work together in last of the summer wine

Judy was looking so young and pretty here. In the 24 years since this was aired she has aged about 50 years.
Eek! Hilda is a scary lady spider. Any other women step out of line/into her web= death!
God Judy looks fit here
Who lives in that house now?
Hilda and Stan lived in Number 13 where Kevin and Anna are now.
Diane Williams thanks
Rip
Can't believe what was popular in the 70s. That and comedians telling jokes about women drivers.
@P39
@purplebanana1000
All wrinkled and stained lol
Awful presentation of special TV.
Horrid!
I agree, and how could she live in an end terrace when she had the corner shop on one side and Elsie Tanner on the other?
