    Great video Janath,
    Congratulations on both medical school and the engagement! I am surprised to not see Will Ashcroft on your watchlist... i think he's breaking out this year and going 105-110. Thoughts on him?

    • @janathfernando1695
      @janathfernando1695 9 днів тому +4

      Hey mate, thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement! Ashcroft is defs an oversight from the watchlist, and it's partly because I thought he was that relevant that didn't really need to be discussed haha. In hindsight, I should've mentioned why he wasn't in my current team. The main reason for this is that the 420k-450k price point is one that is hard to double dip in with this current team structure, and I think Oliver is the pick of the bunch between Oliver, Parish, Ashcroft, Cerra & Day. I think Ashcroft does have 105 upside, but it depends where he stands in the Lions midfield pecking order - is he only behind Dunkley & Neale, or also McCluggage. If the latter, I'd be more hesitant to start him, but if the former, a restructure to fit Oliver & Ashcroft can be done!

    • @SupercoachwithDR
      @SupercoachwithDR  9 днів тому +3

      Ashy has been in and out for me, Mav! Just finished a massive write up on him for the season guide. He could be anything, but also needs a bit to go right. Historically 3+ Lions mids have struggled to ave 100+ concurrently in a season, so it would seem Neale and Dinks would be the two. But history is meant to be broken and there are numerous reasons why this could be the case with Ashy this year! Way too much to delve into here, but an exciting prospect for sure buddy! DR ✌️

    • @Maver_ick
      @Maver_ick 9 днів тому +1

      Really appreciate the reply fellas! Yeah I have had him in and out ALOT.. I have him 3rd mid behind neale and dunks but it's not the scoring potential keeping him out of my team atm it's that early R3 bye.. I look forward to keeping an eye on your team reveals over the next 6 weeks DR, ill be on ashcroft watch haha

    Janath and the Swordplay crew I wonder if you could consider this and comment. I think there are only four realistic premos/keepers from the single bye/R14 15 and 16 teams. Gawn, Trac, Oliver and Dawson. Given this, if we start R1 with 13 or 14 premos and only shop for R12 and R13 players plus those named four, we will have collectively 9 or 10 premos not playing over Rds 12 and 13 with very weak rookie coverage. Even if we have eighteen premos at R12/13 including those four, all other 14 players must have 1 bye. So, I believe when they have the bye is irrelevant and that we should start at least two premos from the early bye rounds where we have very strong (23 players) rookie coverage and have them available in R12/13 where we desperately will need the points.

    • @janathfernando1695
      @janathfernando1695 9 днів тому +3

      Hey Peter, it's a great point you raise mate, and in terms of attacking the bye rounds, a very sound strategy! This partly plays into my reasoning with starting Whitfield, as whilst he has an early season bye almost straight away, having the last of the midseason byes and only sharing it with Lions, Dons and Cats (who albeit have Zorko, Martin, Stewart, Holmes on that bye), at least he doesn't have the first midseason bye which is the tricky one at the moment for me to navigate! Hope that makes sense mate, cheers for your thoughts! Janath

    • @SupercoachwithDR
      @SupercoachwithDR  9 днів тому +2

      Hey Peter! It’s something not many people are considering mate and personally I’m struggling round 12! By selecting some early bye premos it will certainly offset the trickier mid season bye. Even mid price picks that float your boat (Day etc.) will miss and early game, but cover 12. Great to see you are looking into the future Peter. The last thing you want is to come to the bye period and realise you are stuffed on a particular week. Certainly merit in your strategy mate, great work ✌️

      @@SupercoachwithDR Hey DR thanks for the reply. I would have Day except he has the same early bye as Merret. Sicily, Holmes and Stewart would be great also and each one a great POD as well as Merret and Whitfield. I realise also that most people have Baz for that offset, but I can't fit him in. Assuming we have a smoothish run and can maintain cadence, I calculate I will have 4 rookies in Rd12 best 18 and 3 Rookies in Rd13 best 18 then 18 premos from there thru Rds 14 15 and 16.

    • @janathfernando1695
      @janathfernando1695 9 днів тому +2

      Hey Jake, hope you are well and glad you enjoyed the video! Sinclair is a very interesting pick, and I do have the funds to get him in ahead of Clark, both of whom share the Round 13 bye. I just think that with the Sinclair pick, both NWM & Schoenmaker should take a step forward in their rebounding roles, whereas at Freo, Fremantle saw their most success with quicker ball movement, and as per my justification, this benefitted Clark greatly, and hurt Luke Ryan. With quite an easy fixture to start the season for Freo (WC & Richmond in their first 5 rounds), I'm leaning towards starting Clark over Sinclair at the moment. I must admit this is a 50/50 call, as Sinclair should also benefit with the arrival of Jack Macrae, as Macrae, Steele & Phillipou should be the main mainstays in the midfield, and not Sinclair. Cheers mate, hope this logic makes sense!

      Hey mate, thank you so much for the kind words! Regarding that first midseason bye, missing 5 premiums will be a challenge (TDK, Xerri, Sheezel, Bont & JHF), but of these, I think the first 4 are all locks if their current roles hold (e.g., if Pittonet is not named to start the season), with JHF also a lock given positional scarcity. JHF is probably the most expendable of the 4 if I was to make a move though. Upgrade season would revolve around bringing in players who have had the early bye, as there is no double up between early bye teams, and Round 12 bye teams. Cheers!

    Hunter Clark had some of the best PPM games of any player in the comp last year. Some of his figures were outstanding from very low time on ground. If he can get his body right, and it's a big if, he could go really big this year.
    R1 91 from 59% TOG
    R2 96 from 62%TOG
    R3 74 from 56% TOG
    R18 86 from 66% TOG
    R19 81 from 63% TOG
    R22 91 from 64% TOG
    R23 91 from 56% TOG
    R24 85 from 56% TOG
    If he could get this up to an Ave of 75% time on ground, he will ton up on a regular basis. Very risky pick at 412k but one I'm considering if he's named R1.

    • @janathfernando1695
      @janathfernando1695 9 днів тому +1

      A very interesting player for sure! Just can't trust his body, and while the new flex rule may play into his favour in the case of an early injury, it's just so hard to trust players who (1) have an injury history, and (2) play low TOG when they do play. This is for instance in comparison with Izak Rankine, who frequently plays > 90% TOG when he is fully healthy.

    Hi Janath, just a few things .. as you know Phillipou will miss 3 months and I believe Smilie will miss the start of the season. Re Richards, you suggested he would be #4 mid, in DR and Matty’s review there was a strong indication he would be #2 this season. Also, I’m curious as to why you think Baz will go 100+ with the Cats 🤔 There hasn’t been a MID average 100 there since 2021 and there was only 2, (Danger & Guthrie, a class above). Without a decent Ruck I can’t see Smith going much higher than 95 at best .. thoughts?

      Don’t hate the pick mate, I just think there’s better midfield only rookies atm - if all starting Round 1, I’d pick Jagga, L Ashcroft, Smillie and Langford ahead of Lombard. The big issue for Lombard I feel is the amount of ‘mouths to feed’ in the Suns midfield, with Anderson, Rowell, Miller, Graham and possibly Humphrey also poised to play a bigger role in the midfield. Decent junior numbers, but I’d prefer Lombard as a downgrade target later in the season. Hope this makes sense! 😄

      Hey! You do raise a good point, but I’m coming from the angle that even with the premos we start (~9-12 in total), it would be better if they had better fixtures to use as part of the captaincy loophole. With fewer premiums to work with for this loophole, I would prefer for instance, the Bont to have good fixtures to start the season so that I have a reliable captaincy option, at least in those weeks. Once more premiums get traded in during upgrade season, more options become available for condieration on a week to week basis as a captaincy option! 😄

      @@janathfernando1695 yeah I understand maybe at the start of the season but Bont playing the dees, WCE etc. at the backend of the season means nothing other than it means his run during the middle parts of the season is hard. Unless you're referring to people getting league wins in the finals weeks etc.

      I definitely get what you are saying here mate, but I think that fixture analysis is extremely important to get the extra edge. It’s all about which premos you start with and which ones you prefer as upgrade targets. You could say a player is too pricey to start, has a bad opening fixture run etc but ultimately you want them in your finished side. I try to look at who has a nice early fixture and when their easier opponents are to try and maximise potential points and be selective. On top of that, with Bont being a great C option, it’s good to look at when are the best times to maximise that advantage. Just my thoughts though MrM! Cheers, DR ✌️

      @@MrMooremelody Yep, again, at the end of the season, I like to see what match ups they have in the league finals weeks to have that opportunity to know they will be in my team as a captaincy option as long as they are not injured or have a severe dip in form! Never too early to forecast future performance in my opinion! 😅😅

      @@SupercoachwithDR this is honestly the best explanation that I've heard. I guess it's starting to make a little more sense. I just think it's so overblown.

    Hi Janath, just a few things .. as you know Phillipou will miss 3 months and I believe Smilie will miss the start of the season. Re Richards, you suggested he would be #4 mid, in DR and Matty’s review there was a strong indication he would be #2 this season. Also, I’m curious as to why you think Baz will go 100+ with the Cats 🤔 There hasn’t been a MID average 100 there since 2021 and then there was only 2, (Danger & Guthrie, a class above) Without a decent Ruck I can’t see Smith going much higher than 95 at best .. thoughts?

      Hey Lazza, thanks for the suggestions mate!
      1) Phillipou missing with the broken leg is a really tough one - at the moment, I've restructured the side to bring in Rankine in the place of Phillipou.
      2) Have heard similar regarding Smillie really recently, which is unfortunate, as I think he is a top 3 SuperCoach rookie in this class ('Big 3'). Good options around his price are Harvey Langford, Ed Allan and Xavier Lindsay
      3) Re Richards, it's really tough as whilst he could overtake Treloar to become the 2nd leading CBA mid at the Dogs behind Bont, I can equally see him remain behind Bont, Treloar and Libba, with Libba really unable to play any other role than inside midfield. It's a real toss of the coin, and if Richards started preseason as the second mainstay in the midfield behind Bont, in his first full season as a full time mid, I think he has all the tools to at least emulate Hayden Young's season of 2024, possibly higher (~105 average).
      4) Finally, regarding Baz, whilst the Geelong style of ball movement typically hasn't suited clearance specialists, in terms of lower stoppages, I think that their ball retention game style, as well as transition ball movement should suit Baz's gamestyle to a tee, hence why I think he will go 100+. We haven't seen a player like Baz at the Cats in quite a while, with both Danger and Guthrie's game style, as well as other Cats like Blicavs and Atkins more suited to a stoppage gamestyle. I don't think Smith will rely on a good ruckman to average 95+, as even at the Dogs, he played with a very raw English, and aging Stefan Martin in early career, then his best years. With the Phillipou injury, I have Macrae just ahead of Smith atm, but that could easily change! Also, throughout Smith’s career, he has played 24 games in which he has featured in 60% or more CBA’s. In those games he has averaged 108.8, hitting the 100+ mark on 17 occasions (71% of those matches).
      Hope this makes sense mate!
