Jose, yo bro, where did you meet your true live Christen? Can you elaborate on that? Just curious how you met a nice woman. How about sharing that? Would ya? Thanks.
When I lived in Merida, I learned to always walk on the shady side. Love the walkabout. Bringing back many memories.
Thats right! Just like the Locals do!
I spent 2 months in Merida 40 years ago this coming November. Watching your videos it has changed so much. I think I will come back this November.
Awesome! Hope to see you here!
thanks for making videos of Mexico evetime i watch your videos i feel more proud of my country good bless you my brother
Thank you so much for the kind words! Saludos y Viva Mexico!
MERIDA LOOKS A LOT LIKE THE OLD HABANA IN CUBA, IT BROUGHT SO MANY MEMORIES. WOW
Thanks for sharing!
I really appreciate how real you are. When my house sells, I'm there. Im excited about this upcoming change. Thank you!
Thank you for the kind words! So happy to hear my videos are so helpful!
It seems that you and I have the same plan, I hope my house gets sold asap so I can take off
@P.C. H. I'm honestly so sick of the depraved arrogant culture of the US. I looked into belize but it's too expensive. I love the Mexican culture and know a little español. I'm a little scared but not any more so than here. Viva la Mexico 🇲🇽
@@indepchic
Everybody is a little scared of the unknown, until you start the journey and you realize there was no reason to be scared, the worst thing that can happen is that you don’t like it as much as you thought you would, you can always move somewhere else, never let fear stop us from searching for a better quality of life.
I have to visit Mérida first, then I’ll know for sure, but it looks promising. There are other places like Medellin in Colombia, a lot of people go there as well. Then you have Costa Rica and Panama but most people end up leaving after a few years, it’s not that cheap anymore.
I’m open to moving to Medellin, or even Thailand (Chiang Mai) if Mérida doesn’t work out, but right now I’m hoping Merida will be my final destination, it’s safe, low cost of living, great weather, close to the beach, the Cenotes, the food, the proximity to the western world, it’s modern at the same time, we are all somewhat spoiled right, so we will see.
Luckily I do speak Spanish so that should help, the more Spanish you know the better your experience will be, plenty of UA-cam channels where you can learn Spanish for free.
While you are escaping the U.S., I’m escaping Europe, very high cost of living, crazy taxes, weak economy, erosion of freedom, endless red tape, it’s not worth it, life is too precious and too short, I’m moving!
Best of luck!
@@p.c.h.6721 Thank you very much. I needed that.
I saw my cousin when you walk in front of comida yucateca, i haven't travel there in 10 years, also i watch your first video from 7 years ago, you come a long way great content 👌 ❤🎉😊

No worries! Thank you very mucho!
@@JoseArteagaTravels De nada. (see I"m trying to learn!)
That was funny when the vendor was disappointed that you were from Merida hahaha
Yeah I thought it was hilarious too lol other local vloggers don't think its so hilarious when it happens to them btw. But yeah glad I caught it on camera that actually happens all the time to me and other local Mexican creators
WE listen to you Jose, because you know what your talking about. One again another great video clearly showing where your going, so your viewers can see the action. "THANK YOU" 🤓
Thank you so much for your kind words I really appreciate them! Saludos!
We moved here in 2018 as well, and it seems the city keeps growing and that includes the Expat community.

This video was surprisingly sp helpful!! I feel like of all the videos I've seen on Centro this video helped me understand the most out of all of them. Thank you!!
Wow thank you so much for the kind words! I really had my doubts about this video. Really glad to see it be so helpful to you and so many others! Much appreciated! Thanks for sharing!
@JoseArteagaTravels No problem! And I'll be paying for an answered question soon about these buses! How the heck do you know which one to get on and where it goes 😂 I'm a country girl and so the busses already confuse me here in the US. But I'd like to try them out when I visit Merida for the first time in the Fall 😁
That poor guy in the mascot suit, he must have been broiling in that thing.
I agree! LOL It's not easy being a mascot!
Coconut water and aguas frescas are the original electrolyte formulae.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Youre the man Jose. Always love your videos brother. Get ready for the come up!!
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoy them!
I hope you ended up getting the bus! hey, if you make a T-shirt that says, " please stay awesome" , I would totally buy one.
For sure! Been on the bus many times! We still ride it! Also thanks for the T-shirt Idea! Coming to the Store soon! Thanks for sharing!
great video
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for sharing. Merida is beautiful and fun.
I totally agree! Viva Merida!
Theres no traffic at noon?!?!? Wow thats really surprising. Nevermind i take it back, its fn hot lol. You know yucatecos come out at night 😆
You already know it! Thanks for sharing!
Great video Jose 😊
Thank you!
Yeah hardly any foot traffic. I've shopped that area a lot.
Yeah who knows, I guess they knew I was coming 😅
So full of LIFE and HAPINESS. ♥ Crazy they have a guy cooking in a mascot costume tough lol
Mexian MR BEAST 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for the kind words!
Now visit the new park in Mérida parque de las planchas 😉
Yes I gotta go do an updated ride around the park. I was actually there the week before it opened. You can check it out here in this video ua-cam.com/video/TJxJ8Ox7ty8/v-deo.html
Jose is this video made today, May 07, 2023? I know it’s hot there and I see so many people wearing long pants. Just curious about my observations.
I recorded this a few days ago. Many Mexicans wear pants no matter how hot it is outside
I really enjoy your videos. You're a jovial guy and a good spokesman for Mexico. I've been traveling in South and Central America for over three years straight, and soon I'm flying to Guadalajara. (Merida is lovely but it's just too hot for me.) I wasn't really considering Mexico at all until I started watching your videos, so thanks!
Thank you for the kind words! Safe travels!
13:00 - Gentrification. A city can do it to support and boost up the local population, or it can do it to replace them with higher tax bracket residents. Even when you let in outsiders - us foreigners - you can do it smartly in ways that bring in money and local jobs, or again you can push out and displace people. Bring in people that want to be a part of your community, not replace it. As a native San Franciscan I had this debate with a friend recently. He lamented that Oakland across the bay kept refusing to give breaks to big tech companies so they never got all the 'great investment' San Francisco did during the boom. But half or more of Oakland is also still the same people I went to high school with, while no one who came from S.F. when I was there is still there, and the all the companies took their money out while Oakland is still not rich, but also not desperate. Do your gentrification right, and you won't get a gold rush, but you also won't become a ghost town when it's over.
Thanks for sharing!
Great channel
Thank you!
Enjoying the music .
Awesome! Glad its not overbearing!
Thanks!
Muchas Gracias! Much appreciated!
@@JoseArteagaTravels ☺️👍
I was born there now I'm a florida man, i like your videos walking around 😊
That is awesome! And I am from Florida and now live here! Saludos!
Have you done a video en La Feria de xmatkuil 2023 happens in November
I really appreciate your videos! I've been here 3 weeks now and trying to give myself time (patience) to get to know the area. I would like to try taking the buses, but, not real confident about which one and where the stops are. Did you make a video on buses 101?? Thank you Jose!!
Since buses are fairly cheap I used to just hop on the next one and hope for the best... sometimes I got off a few blocks away from where I wanted to go, but it was still helpful... and hey if you go too far just cross the street and go the other way :)
The bus system has changed many times over since I have been here. I think these days there are maps and better access to the bus routes. They are on the local Gov site www.yucatan.gob.mx/
@@JoseArteagaTravels thank you Jose for your quick response!!
@@dianaj3139 omg you are so encouraging! Thank you I appreciate it!
There's an app for the bus system sorry I can't remember what its called. All buses stop in centro & start again in centro. You can't just cross the street to return to your starting point because they take a different route back to their starting point, usually a street over. When you get off in centro ask the driverwhere do you take the bus to return. It's a bit confusing.
So c😎😎l, can you tell us about the the New Blue Bus ?
I haven't been on them yet! Maybe in a future video.....
It seems like all the streets are one way? Is that the case and do you find it safer than two way traffic?
They are just one way in the downtown area of the city and in certain other areas. But most places have 2 way streets
Wajajajaja...all are blind was a bit funy..!
😅
Jose, are you planning to go to Cancun anytime soon? I think it would be great if you would do a walk and talk through the neighborhoods of Cancun To show people what Cancun is like other than The hotel zone.
I do not plan on going to Cancun anytime soon. If I do you can rest assured I will record it. Maybe I should start a Send Jose to Cancun GoFundMe 😅
@@JoseArteagaTravels I think you should try it you're good at narration and describing stuff I think it would be good for your Channel to go to Cancun for a few days and walk around the downtown area showing the different neighborhoods.
@@terrysmith8539 Sounds good! Soon a I raise some money I will be on my way there!
So many people in long pants and jeans. Don't they over heat?
Yes they do! But in certain situations you have to wear pants. Most working class people need to wear pants either to protect themselves or because it is the dress code at a job. Also many Mexicans like to dress up and not down. Yes you will see people in shorts but usually they are doing a very informal job, or it might be their day off from work 😅 The closer you get to the beach the more you'll see shorts. You will see the same thing in places like Miami. I never worse shorts there unless I was going to the beach or was my day off from work.
Need more green spaces.
This is the Historic Downtown area. Most of this has been here for hundreds of years. Merida is FULL of Green areas all around the downtown area and throughout the city
Man, I wished I liked hot humid weather, you are really selling me on Merida. Anyway I plan to come tour Mexico soon, I live in DC and I need to get out as I do not like the mentality of 95% of the people. Life is just too short to spend time where one is incompatible with the lifestyle. I am thinking about a higher elevation place, any ideas?
If you can handle the heat and humidity of Summers in D.C you will be fine out here. But I understand many people do not like the heat. What do I recommend? The rest of Mexico. Most Mexicans live in higher elevations and there are too many places to mention. So just as a rule of thumb assume most are in the mountains. If there is ever any doubt see what they wear on a normal sunny day outside and that should tell you how cold it actually is
He should try Puebla, there is snow there
If I get to mexico can I get a bus there
Yes there are many buses in Mexico
Did you ever get sick from eating street food when you first got to Mexico?
Great Question! Short answer yes, but it was never as bad as getting sick in the USA but that is just me. In fact if you want more context on this please check out this video ua-cam.com/users/liveSWrv-mkM8ZQ?feature=share
I have never had any type of sickness from street vendor in mexico. Usually if the vendor is full of people, they more often than not will be safe.
your videos are a lot better without the constant use of the soundboard
Awesome! Thanks for the input!
Dude it's not 105 it's 41degrees c it's Mexico :)
ok! Thanks for sharing!
Jose Orteaga, looks like one of the brown Cuban's... He dose NOT look like one of the white Cubans
ok!
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
😎
If you dont mind me asking, would you now be looking to smart a family
I already started a family. It's me, my wife, and my dog. If we have any extra additions to our family I will be sure to share it with you guys!
The only fear I would have going to Mexico, is that I would fall in love with a woman, and just never leave.
No need to fear and just go with the flow
Take her home with you 😂
How can those Policia wear all that dark clothing in that heat/humidity dang that's crazy. Lot of police presence though and I guess that's good, right?
Safe and sound out here. Yeah in Florida it is the same thing. Part of the job. This kind of heat is not for everyone
On behalf of the USA, I apologize for normalizing t-shirts and stretch pants.
jaja
And made it "normal" for 200+lb women to wear them out in public 😝
I want to learn Spanish, but I can't roll my R's.
Oh no! Sorry to hear that! Hopefully one day you'll get the R's!
Se ve caliente!
Muy Caliente! Estaba a 105 F ese dia!
I'd prefer the electric carriage if it's really hot and humid 🥵 I was never a fan of the horse and carriage
Thanks for sharing!
"Everyone's blind out here, huh?..."
*BRUH*
💀
😎😅
Just like the united states , everyone dresses at walmart for 5 bucks 😂
Thanks for sharing!
it think traffic change because the new buses called va y ven a lot of new blue buses and so traffic went down
That might be a reason! You are right I think they moved a lot of the bus stops away from this area and placed them in other parts of El Centro. Thanks for sharing!
I always love your videos out on the town. While I'm Peruvian my stepfather who raised me from infancy on up is Mexican American and his family is from Merida. A lot of them still live there. Everytime I see you out there it's like seeing all the cousins I hope to meet someday.
Awesome! Glad you enjoy my walks! Thanks for sharing!
