All horses need to be fip trained at minimum so they can get proper foot maintenance and healthcare. Loaded in case of emergency etc. I'm guessing you know that, but the way you said you're not tip training looked like a red flag.
missanna208802 “tip” stands for trainer incentive program. It’s a PROGRAM. Yes, all horses need to know how do do these basic things eventually. But TIP is a program, not a training method.
I love that area . It's nice living so close to it . I am outside Salt Lake and we get down there as often as we can . That is a gorgeous horse . I would keep him too . 😃
I like the fact that you’re not trying to train it within a certain timeframe and giving it as long as it takes. If only everyone did this then there would never be a need to use excessive and unnecessary violence. You should want your horse to do what you want through respect not fear.
If you have her in a pen where you can move her like on this video, pressure her to move, then stop and back up a step when she looks at you. If you keep doing that eventually you will be able to catch her.
I did that with my semi feral horse...keep putting pressure on their flanks so they'll never turn their butts to you, it's a sign of disrespect...now she can be caught but not only that follows you...
nice training. wish I lived in the countryside and able to do this also, but when you have to drive 1h every day just to get to a barn and back, it's not feasible.
Do you know how to train a wild horse to go into a stall?? Cuz I got a wild mare. And she don't like my to put her into a stall. She starts to buck and rear.
They were about to start because they are ranchers that got cattle who own their own land and I think they should use their own land and not complain if they're leasing property that wild horses are on ranchers need to stop complaining man I'm saving up money so I can get my own property because I really want my own mustang I want to start rescuing horses and dogs that is my dream and I'm working towards it
I got myself a mustang x thoroughbred. She’s supposed to be green and handled but so far she won’t let me touch her or walk up to her. But if I can grab her halter she will follow. I did this video and she definitely calmed down around me but I still can’t touch her or walk up to her. I look forward to watching your videos and hopefully getting further with her

Hi Steven. First time watching your channel and I really like your calm approach. I would like to foster or adopt a feral mare approx 9 yo that was picked up pregnant by the NM Livestock Board and taken to a NM rescue several months before she foaled. She's been there since February 2019. They're calling her feral but that's basically what mustangs are, right? (I've heard many times that there aren't any truly wild horses left in the US.) So the "gentled" guidelines used by the MHF would logically apply to this feral mare I have my eye on?
Glad you are watching. I have about 100 videos on the channel; many of them with mustangs. You are right that the mare is the same as a mustang and she will be difficult to gentle. If you live anywhere near Farmington I can recommend someone to help you.
My girl stares me down snorting with head shakes & backes up when I move forward. So what do I do from there.. if I back she will stay there frozen for up to 30 minutes.
Again, you must get her feet moving. Use a training stick, or coils of a rope against her neck; whatever it take to get her moving. Backing up in horse language is telling her she is the dominate and you are submitting to her.
Mine is doing good picking up cues stop and go he understands, he will let me approach him and rub his one side , his head, but sometimes he thinks when I reach out that I'm asking him to move... I've been doing everything the same and it's all working very well just that one thing.... Any suggestions?
"I DONT THINK she has a round pen...." less than a minute later "this IS new to him.... he has NEVER been round penned"...... funny when he moved off good you were certain it was his first time, but when you didnt know how he was going to react.... you were not sure and you THOUGHT.... tell us.... we folks just learning from ya..... what made you certain after he moved off pretty well "considering" that he never done it before!?!?!?
It's not a whip in the sense that we are trying to punish the horse. We use it to get movement from the horse when asked. There is an element of fear in the beginning because of the noise it makes. Moment on request is the first essential element of training a horse.
