There’s also the trinket from Gus that sometimes upgrades pelts from 2 star to 3 star. It’s expensive but it has come in handy more times than I can count.
works especially well with squirrels, a good pelt becomes a perfect pelt. Also squirrels go in your satchel so through the day you collect 20 maybe 25 then when your daily challenge is to supply Cripps with 20 animals in 10 minutes. You have them already, no running around trying to find them!
That trinket only works about 10% of the time for me. It’s junk.

Hey +OnlyPVPCat, about bonuses: If you have Buck Antler Trinket from Gus, even if you ruin a pelt lowering it by ONE star before you kill the animal, you have a chance to get it at the ORIGINAL quality when skinning:
-If you hit a 3 stars buffalo with a first shot that makes his pelt 2 stars (then it dies in the next shot and shows 2 star corpse), you have a chance to still recover a 3 star pelt when skinning.
-If you hit a 2 star alligator with a shot that lowers its pelt to 1 star, (then kill it with the next shot and shows 1 star on corpse), you have a chance to still recover a 2 star pelt when skinning.
% is not that great to rely on that

Also the naturalist role plays really well into the trader role by giving you easy legendary pelts which filled about half of or more of the material bar
On another note, it's easier to sell carcasses for larger profits but if you want those precious animal parts any quality will do bit you still get higher yelds for 3 stars.
And my personal favorite.
Every star can also determine the animal's physical appearance sometimes.
Fun fact: at Emerald Ranch two pens of sheep will spawn, at night you can lasso and kill them for a free three star pelt (there is usually two-three star sheep). Simply transport

You can use small game arrows for snakes too just shoot them in the head

You can get perfect bat carcasses from the Elysium pool cave. As you enter, the game spawns bats flying overhead and they tend to drop dead upon hitting the walls. Just pick them up.

For medium animals like foxes and coyotes, use repeaters. If you're unsure what weapon to use, aim at the animal and open its info, it will tell the best weapon for that specific animal.

I’m pretty sure you can use varmint rifle for any small animal. And all you need is a bolt action for the bigger game.

You can get perfect rabbit pelt and those size animals with tracking arrow so it is possible to only use bow if you want to craft those arrows a lot....

TIP: using sedated ammo on any animal _will_ ruin the quality. It’s not meant for hunting.

Here I'll sum it up even more. Kill like 100 animals and donate them to crips. Then wait two hours plus all the "resupply" missions. Then activate the mission and get stuck in the loading screen then lose 600+ worth of trading goods when you restart your game. RDO is great isn't it?
why do you loose trading goods when loading screen freezes? just press alt f4 or use task-manager then you can restart the game and all goods are still in you camp... also why killing 100+ animals when you can just donate 2 legendary pelts to completely fill up materials
ive never lost a wagon of goods because of this and ive ran over 1000 trader runs..wow that sucks

I hate how the game confusingly calls medium sized animals "small game" with the Varmint Rifle & that they make us think that weapon & small game arrows are used for the same animals...
I have never been able to get a perfect snake carcass and I have tried. I used varmint rifle. Bow with regular and small game all from a range I can get a good shot at its head but the best I can do is good

Throwing knives also work for medium animals, right?
Poison throwing knives work in a pinch for larger game and predators (for when you aren't running sniper or bow)
Don't know if this is useful, but you can kill huge animals with a shotgun slug and get a perfect pelt

It's because the animals you shoot with it are relatively to small to give the player that unnecessary level of challenge. A small bit of good game design

Isn't regular arrow better for most medium animals, the guide says varmint is only good for a few animals between medium and small
Can you help me understand why most suggest to hunt during certain missions or even bounty missions? When it can be done in free roam anyway? It's usually to fill up wagon for Cripps but if the same animals are at locations anyway (in free roam) then why?
Have you compared the lancaster and litchfield repeaters? I usually run lancaster with no scope and litchfield with one since it really do seem like litchfield bloom circle never closes without a scope on
Which I should note that usually scopes don't really effect the book circle

Yes, but rifle headshot also not ruins pelts for them (I tested on Bolt Action and Spring)
Aim at any animal, press info button, and it will tell u which weapon to use.
I tried repeaters on coyotes and the like, no good, prefer the bolt action rifle. YMMV

Someone als have this problem where he can only buy horses with gold. I wanted to buy strawberry roan ardennes which unlocks at level 54 im lvl 57 and still can only buy it for 18 gols same with the dutch warmblood.
