1 silly change made my putt so much more consistent. my middle finger and thumb were never lined up as in pinching the disc with them. once I started doing that and making sure that pinched spot was the last point of contact on release, I started making putts. I've been through every style of putt you can imagine and that one thing, no matter what style I use, made all the difference.
I just realized exactly this today while playing. It's not a point I ever hear online. It's crazy that this video and your comment just happened to show up in my feed today.
Best disc golf putting video I've ever seen, period: 4 steps, simplified yet very complete. Includes mental and physical, which most don't. Efficient and effective presentation by Paul. Really appreciate this, Paul. Cheers, man - Ben
Finally.........I was up at Wilderness Ranch a few days ago playing with Pete. As we played, I spoke about my putting woos. He mentioned what a great putter you have become. I took 30 years off and started back playing last October. I use a very unique push putt inside circle 1, which is WAY different than what modern golfers call a push putt. Anyway, outside C1 and when it gets very windy, I have use a back hand putt. I have practiced for 100's of hours at a range of putting styles and I never really liked any of them. Now, I see your motion, and it fits me. It gets rid of a lot of the stuff I did not like and provides the power and accuracy I need. Your putting thoughts are perfect for me. They allow me to repeat the same motion with the same thoughts and it allows me to control the release. I just now spent 15 minutes trying and thinking the way you describe and it felt so incredibly good! Now I can finally go practice ONE style of putt. I am totally excited for the next 12 months of practice. The biggest flaw in my game is my putt and now I feel like I have a path to run on. Thanks Paul, (and Pete!!)
i definitely haven't ever thought about my thumb before, so i'll for sure be over thinking it in my next practice session! i have been really focused on release point recently, taking stokely's advice to heart, and being intentional about stopping/leaving my hand in the spot where i'm releasing so i can see immediately if i did it correctly. congrats on the awesome results, Uli! love your perspective on the micro aspects of the sport
This was suprisingly insightful. Surprisingly because, even though I expect a lot from good pros but this was beyond what I have heard other brilliant putters say. Very beatifully explained and such an interesting and seemingly solid system. Can't wayt to incorporate it with what my body likes to do. I have been doing the confidence thing for a couple of weeks and my putting has seen two changes: 1: I miss less puts 2: when I miss a put it doesn't feel that bad, even though it was a horrendous put. So yeah. Disc golf became more fun. That's a very good reason to do this. Note: I've also been spending a lot of time developing and practising my putt.
I have been doing 3 out of your 4 steps and I am a good putter but was missing something and now you just showed me the way. Going to practice some putts now, Thanks Uli!
Awsome video Paul. Trying not to start the swing with the big muscles is hard!! Change is hard. Best putter from c1x on earth so by default, the entire Milky Way galaxy!!!thanks for the help, I appreciate it.
Really great video Paul, thank you. The positivity is so key to everything we want to do well, we all have to learn to silence the negative voices in our heads and in our lives. Great first step to everthing.
I started practicing from 60 feet out no jump, and I learned to keep it online with the basket ( no lift or swing). Once I could do that from 60 on a rope confidently then anything in from that is easy peasy
Great explanation Paul, a very interesting system. I'll try it our myself. As always you have to put in the work and trust the process. The results will eventually come.
The quarter analogy is money 😉 No joke, this helped my release point immediately which helped accuracy. It’s been a lot of fun watching you play this season. The confidence is clearly on another level which has translated into better golf better results. Looking forward to seeing you take some tourneys down soon!😎
Really liking the ideas of minimizing wrist pop, and putting effort into finding and learning an ideal release point … You should come visit coastal VA sometime! We never get any love from the pros 😢
I made a 70 footer yesterday with a drop off behind the basket. It came in like a perfect uli put with it fading right at the basket. Probably top 3 shots of the year for me. Just had to share.
Thank you for the drills! I'm thinking also that it should be better to make repetitions of putts bringing zero or not more than one disc in the left hand (for RH throwers), because the balancing of the putt changes if the left hand is charged of three or four discs.
Thank you oh man 10 puts in a row right after watching the video with the fingers pointing at me tip .. at 25ft I aim at The bottom basket and hit center from 40ft I aim at the top band and hit center broke my pop up basket 😅
I am a decent putter because I practiced. I did quite well yesterday when I parred 6 out of 9 holes. Parring 6 holes in a game is my personal best up from 5. I also threw a +3 which is my personal best up from +4. That is before watching this video. I am hoping this video helps me to improve.
Awesome video, thanks man. Sounds like you may have read Atomic Habits? Reading it now and the belief system part sounds just like what he said. It's worked for me too in other areas of my life!
My putting self talk improved when i remembered that I hit about 50% of 25 foot putts - so if I miss one I shrug it off, remember whether it was left/right/high/low, and try to get the next one.
Hey Paul, just looking at the DGPT page on Wikipedia and the European Open is not included in the 2024 events list. Shouldn’t it be? Asking you because I think you’re the moderator on that page? Thanks. Love the Big Berry Commentary!
I like the overall approach here with regard to the holistic view of metal game and form, but I think specifically when it comes down to the form aspect, Paul is teaching a form that's no longer in line with the modern meta game of pro disc golf. Specifically, he's teaching a form that eliminates or minimizes levers in the throw, which is undeniably good for accuracy at short ranges, but quickly drops off in advantage at range and actually becomes a liability. This is actually reflected in Paul's own stats. Sure, he's number 1 in C1x putting -- short putts -- but he drops all the way down to 41st in C2 putting. I think the reason why is because his minimal lever form simply doesn't generate enough spin and forward velocity to keep the disc on a line at range. Instead, his technique requires C2 putts to be thrown high and to flex and fade to cover the distance. So it's not that I think what Paul says here is wrong, just that it's teaching an old school putt that I think has fallen out of favor for a reason. The best putters on tour he mentions have a reputation for putting hard, because they have realized that being able to drain C2 or longer putts is how you differentiate yourself on tour. Making every single C1x putt is basically table stakes and doesn't really give you separation. Sure Paul is number 1 in C1x but it's not like number 41 in C1x is losing a bunch of strokes to him on the green, the difference just isn't as big in the circle.
Thumb talk is so real here. Finally found my putting putter and its an old prototype. Tough to gather enough for a practice stack. No excuses, though. Happy I found the one.

Its easy to be claim 93 percent C1 when you rarely ever have a drive that lands in C1..... worst form to imitate when it comes to putting imo, literally no other pro putts like you.
@@kevinking5645why would it be the worst form to imitate if he completely rebuilt it in the middle of his career? That means anyone can. Why does it matter how many times he’s in the circle off the tee? He’s still played 23 tournaments this year, you think he just isn’t in the circle? Lol

self talk is the #1 most important thing. it’s easier to do with practice, but you have to be confident in yourself.
I love the putting drill for accurate release point! So simple but shows everything you need to know about your accuracy. Thank you!
This is huge! The thumb sliding the quarter idea is very cool.
Great stuff! I love the "Inch" Drill Concept! Can be applied to every form change to reprogram muscle memory!
Your putting videos on PowerDGA have been a game changer dude.
