You could call the bucket your Bucket of Useful Timeless Treasures. Then, when someone asks about the hook, you could tell them you made it out of something you just pulled out of your BUTT. As someone interested in getting into forging (especially small, quickly made items that could be sold for a few bucks) this series is a huge blessing for me. I greatly appreciate you sharing your time and skills.
Bucket of usefull treasure hahaha. I know what you mean, but I haven´t got only a bucket full of usefull treasures. Since my greatgrandfather build the house I´m currently living in, nothing he used in his shop got thrown away. There is half a big barn and a small attic full of useful treasures and I like to grab somthing from that to give it a second live. :)
Love the hook videos. I'm just getting started in this craft and the simple projects are what I find most useful. Nice to be able build simple skills without doing the same hook 100 times.
Great looking ceiling hook , John. My wife says, YES. Something else you might consider would be a matching set of "S" hooks to help lower plants from a higher ceiling.
Ha! I have a stack of those washers and wondered what they were. I'm betting that my bride will appreciate some plant hooks under the eaves. Thanks, John!
Yeah!!! Hook of the week my friend! Thank you John! For the record any series you do is worth a hoot in my book! Speaking of books you know what I'm talking about 😉 hey John, could you show us how to make a decorative post to hold an emergency address sign? Just a thought not holding you to it. Any whom have a great day my friend! God bless you and your family
You should let us know, incidentally, if you are monitised by the view or by the ad click. I've been letting the ads play, but i can always click on them, too!
that's awesome, it may have been said in the comments or video. I didn't read them all and my audio is a little messed up. But I think the washer and rod is from a cable spool.
When i first saw the thumbnail for the video i thought it was the one that captain hook wore...lol. nice design. You mentioned the ball end for a cathedral ceiling. I dont have any of those domed washers. But, could one be made by dishing into a stump or swage?
You may have mentioned before where you got the scrolling pliers. Can you tell us again? I'm having a hard time finding them. Thanks again for the videos!
Its fun to see the various hooks you can think of. What would you recommend for a finish of mild steel outdoors? I am working on a cage for the front of a door over a window.
I generally use paste wax and just reapply from time to time or don't worry about the inevitable rust. Priming and painting does a pretty good job and powder coating is extremely good protection, I just don't like the looks of either all that well.
Good to see you using my hook jig. Thanks Steve, Foxwood Forge
I'm sure we will be seeing it again as part of this series.
I love the simplicity of that jig!
I bought one and use it a lot. Great little jig.
@@jjppres Thanks Jim glad its working out for you

I gotta learn that process of turning the tongs evenly and smoothly......practice needed.
You're right, its just a matter of practice
I love to watch how you manipulate the tongs while you are forging

Yes it is
Wow quite a useful hook! Never thought of that.
Thanks John. This is a fun topic.
That was fun to watch! Are those bolts just mild steel?
They seem to be something a bit tougher than just mild but not hard enough to be usable for tool making
Cool idea. 👍👍

Is is possible you can show us how you make your screws to match the hooks you make?
I have done a video in the subject. ua-cam.com/video/hr8jU_-JWHc/v-deo.html
Exelente..muy buen video.
You may have mentioned before where you got the scrolling pliers. Can you tell us again? I'm having a hard time finding them. Thanks again for the videos!

How do you make screws?
You are in the us,please use.fractions etc. Before doing metric. Thanks.
Have you done a video on making nails yet? Ive watched a bunch of videos and have tried making a bunch and just cant seem to get it.
I am a lousy nail maker, so I have rarely made them. It is really a very specialized trade.
search Joey van der Steege for a good video on that....as well as much more.
Where do you get your Round Nose plier?
Blacksmith Supply should have them
10 mm is bigger than 3/8. 10 mm is 0.394 and 3/8 is 0.375

If you’re getting hung up on exact material sizes you’re missing the entire point of the project
@@BlackBearForge oh im not, im machinist thats all. sorry
