This is one of my favorite albums ever especially because of this song. I feel breathless every time I listen to this. I especially love the sound design? The instrumentals in all of your songs (Furthest Star where it’s like the world empties out and you’ve entered space) the way we go from the first part to the middle is so beautiful I don’t know how you make songs that feel like they were always meant to be written but you have. One of my favorite songs from you and that says a lot because a LOT of your songs are on my top 10 list even 5 years later.
Love, your enemy is time It's too soon to set it straight Too late to keep you on the narrow For this pressure on my chest, That never lets me rest is building with each new tomorrow For what we needed most, was only just a ghost A vapor trail, a plane gone by A bridge of smoke that fades before our eyes We'd cross the rope, but our balance is a joke We're human after all, still there's no excuse to fall This mortal will, more rust than flesh Turned by the creeping bitterness Aging machines, no soul to offer Crushed by the burdens of our fears Carried alone for all these years Programmed to flee, too weak to bother What we needed most was only just a ghost A vapor trail, a plane gone by A bridge of smoke that fades before our eyes We'd cross the rope, but our balance is a joke We're human after all, still there's no excuse to- Afraid of letting go, we claw the dirt and move the earth Reclaiming the rotting vessels of our love Animating corpses to dance like they're rejoicing As the audience is stifled by the actors in our show But it must go on We were the cause, we are at fault We cannot draw from empty vaults With vacant hands, we're left to ponder If only then we had been told, infatuations would grow cold We might have more than ash to squander I'll always wonder... Was it a vapor trail? A vapor trail Are we a vapor trail? Vapor trail.
wait. I know you. I KNOW EXACTLY WHERE YOUR FROM WHATS UP FELLOW TALLY HALL FAN! I'm glad you like Dirt Poor Robins as well or at least the song. Edit: it's been a year but I my statement still stands
still here been here for five years and you guys still go as hard as when i first started listening, god this is musical perfection honest to god that dramatic ass piano gives me chills EVERY time
when I first heard you guys it was just random tracks the algorithm pulled and I was SHOCKED when I eventually looked at your specific albums and figured out this wasn't part of the same one as We Forgot We Were Human. I would have bet anything that the musical that opened with We Forgot We Were Human would end with Human After All.
I have to ask, because this is one of my favorites from you. What is the "vapor trail" in reference to? I've often thought it meant a soul or maybe something else? I have a few interpretations, but would just love your take. It's been bugging me ever since I started listening to you guys, either way huge fan!
“What we needed most, was only just a ghost… A vapor trail, a plane gone by A bridge of smoke that fades before our eyes” The idea is this - the thing needed to hold them together, to bridge the gap between them or to make amends was a skill they did not possess. It couldn’t materialize so there was no solid footing.
@@dirtpoorrobins I love it! Ah, that connects so much in my mind now. That's what I love about your music, both enthralling, and full of nuance! For the longest time, I interpreted it as a machination or being with a self aware mind, having this epiphany that it lacked a soul or understanding of mortality, and that's what drove it to this despair of not being able to "let go". I guess it's an overactive imagination on my part. Either way thank you so much! This and Nightingale are my favs on this album!
"Animating corpses to dance like they're rejoicing"
Fuck, I'm in love with this part
This sentence is like the prelude to "Necromancing dancing" by bearghost lmao

You guys might be the greatest band that's ever existed on this planet. I sincerely mean that.
the part at 1:27 where the chorus and singers sing "fall" as it warps and distorts is like the best part of the song imo
Love this song so much... from a Korean fan
This song feels like Dirt Poor Robins' Bohemian rhapsody
You guys do such a great job bridging the gap between poetry and music. Love your lyrics!
This song is so epic
Love, your enemy is time
It's too soon to set it straight
Too late to keep you on the narrow
For this pressure on my chest,
That never lets me rest is building with each new tomorrow
For what we needed most, was only just a ghost
A vapor trail, a plane gone by
A bridge of smoke that fades before our eyes
We'd cross the rope, but our balance is a joke
We're human after all, still there's no excuse to fall
This mortal will, more rust than flesh
Turned by the creeping bitterness
Aging machines, no soul to offer
Crushed by the burdens of our fears
Carried alone for all these years
Programmed to flee, too weak to bother
What we needed most was only just a ghost
A vapor trail, a plane gone by
A bridge of smoke that fades before our eyes
We'd cross the rope, but our balance is a joke
We're human after all, still there's no excuse to-
Afraid of letting go, we claw the dirt and move the earth
Reclaiming the rotting vessels of our love
Animating corpses to dance like they're rejoicing
As the audience is stifled by the actors in our show
But it must go on
We were the cause, we are at fault
We cannot draw from empty vaults
With vacant hands, we're left to ponder
If only then we had been told, infatuations would grow cold
We might have more than ash to squander
I'll always wonder...
Was it a vapor trail?
A vapor trail
Are we a vapor trail?
Vapor trail.
All this time I thought it was paper trail

an actual bird hello I’m also from 2020
@@anactualbird6801 Heehee- yes, I do enjoy Dirt Poor Robins along with a lot of other smaller bands :^)
Bro how do we literally listen to all the same music???

I would love to hear this as a part of the Westworld soundtrack.
This song will forever be one of my favorites! Soooooooo good.

This kind of song is a great friend for bad days, Thank you.
I'm always saddened when I find amazing bands and no one knows about them.
Powerful vocals, beautiful song and criminally underrated
Dirt Poor Robins
Have you ever considered turning this into a theatre production?
You're amazing! I've listened to this song on repeat since I found it
Woah.
One question, *WHY ARE YOUR SONGS SO GOOD?*
Incredible song ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
You may have over 10 thousand views on this song but they're actually all me
Literal, siempre que escucho sus canciones tengo algo que dibujar!!!! Y eso me encanta ya que casi siempre tengo bloqueo creativo
Dude same :D
This song reminds me of Muse, to the point I had to check if its a cover. I wonder why, just similar key? I love this song regardless!
Why are you so underrated?

Daft Punk is a bit more depressing than I remember...
The one person who disliked this must have been having a bad day
Who does the art
We do
But this was inspired by Gustav Dore
