  • The first Olympic champion in the 100m of the post Bolt era was crowned. Unlike what most had anticipated, it was not an American who won, it was an Italian, Marcell Jacobs, who came out victorious, even surpassing the previous 100m winning time at the Olympics by Usain Bolt at 2016.

I would say he's likely the most fortunate sprinter in history having run under 9.90 on only one day in his life. Literally no other race he has ever done would make the top three of a major let alone win the Olympics. At no other time outside of the two days of the Olympic 100m has he ever even run under 9.95. Blows my mind why anyone sees any evidence at all he can even break 9.80 and yet everyone keeps thinking he's going to run 9.6. Its absolutely absurd. He's a 9.9 athlete who peaked perfectly once. Good on him for that.

He won not only 100m in Tokyo, but the relay too. In March 2022 he won 60m indoor wc with a comeback win, meaning he would have easily beaten Coleman over 100m. Again, in April 2022 he ran in 11.35 (manually taken) over 120m that is absolutely insane, then he started to get sick (before Nairobi meeting) and, alter that, injured.
Someone says he stressed his body with the obsession of Bolt's wr, wrongly changing mechanic of his run, changing his shoes, and so on ..
You can't imagine what it means being Italian and win the 100m in the olympics: the whole Country put a lot of pressure on his shoulders he probably couldn't take...

@@Yuri-rg2wv True except for the 11.35 being over 120m. It was 110m. I did a full analysis proving it absolutely impossible based simply on the number of steps taken.
