Ben Lomond via the Ptarmigan Ridge

- Опубліковано 6 лип 2021
- As autumn moves into winter and with a few weeks holiday to use up, we managed to take advantage of the first snows of the year and get several walks done back to back.
A fantastic walk up a very popular Munro......Our walk today takes us up the most southerly Munro Ben Lomond. Today we took the Ptarmigan Ridge route and were lucky to have blue skies and sunshine all the way!
Where will you go a walk?

Wow, that's fantastic. It cools down the heat. I'm happy with your hard work. Thank you for the video.Full view.👍😊
Thanks! Paul
After you commented earlier I decided to find your nice weather climb. What an awesome day you had. The route and the views were just stunning. Days like that live long in the memory and you have this movie to remind you in later years of these times. There is so much we take for granted at the time we do things. We are lucky today that we can record things so well with the advent of digital photography. Thanks for pointing me in this direction as I have just enjoyed this on a bigger screen.
Ivor this was and still is one of my favourite hill days ever. There have been loads of great days but this was exceptional and to have a wee souvenir is special. As you say,, capturing these moments is important to me know and I wish I had started years ago! all the best and thanks again! Paul.
Wonderful, inspiring stuff, wow! Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much! Cheers for watching. All the best. Paul
This wee walk had us missing the cold and snow really bad. These are our favourite conditions to get out in the business (as long as I remember my gloves!). Assuming you've been saving this one for an off week, and posted due to illness. We really hope you feel better soon Paul!
Aside from the views, my favourite part of a good winter hike is when you have to stop and break out the serious equipment. That's when it gets really real. You guys pack some especially serious spikes. Such a perfect bluebird day you got for this climb, loved it!
Thanks JR! Yeah out the other side of my illness....I have had the dreaded Covid and had a tough few days. However managed out for a wee walk with Paddy today and a cycle this afternoon. All going well back out onto the hills at the weekend.. Kick this covid in the backside! I have loads of videos that never made it onto UA-cam mostly because of time and uploading so I thought I would put a few on in the coming weeks. This was definitely an ice axe and crampons day and the views were simply sublime! one of my favourite days from last year now in full UA-cam glory! cheers guys. Paul.
@@PAADVENTURES1 So glad you've come out the other side of it and are on the mend then. The Munros are waiting for you!
Great to see you back out again!
CHEERS! Paul..
Paul! This was an absolutely stunning watch, wow! Nearly lost for words.....nearly! Turned our tea to ice as we joined you in this one, just incredible and amazing conditions to hike in. Loved the map inserts too, really helps. The ridge and veiws we just fantastic, thanks for taking us along with you, real sense if immersion, loved the summit climb, looked other worldly ♥️ really beautiful, thanks Paul. Have a great week, Ceri and Kat ☕🤗♥️🗻👍
Thanks so so much! An amazing day! can't wait till the winter comes around again! Paul.
That was a great hike and slog with fantastic views all round 👍. The snow looked good but challenging. Really enjoyed watching and subbed you. Atb Steve 👍
Thanks Steve. Old video dredged up due to being sitting at home unwell last week...Brilliant day and with the blue sky it was just amazing! thanks for the sub its appreciated! I will head over and have a look at your channel. Cheers and all the best. Paul.
Thank you. Hope you enjoy. 👍
Stunning Paul. It’s easy to forget how beautiful our mountains are on a sunny winters day. It’s also easy to forget during the height of summer just how much additional thought has to go into planning a winter walk with the extra layers, longer walk times and shorter days etc. Those Scottish mountains are certainly no place for the unprepared that’s for sure! Great video as always 👍
Thanks Andrew. I am not sure who said it, but the saying goes that there is no such thing as hill walking in Scotland in the winter.....its mountaineering! A lot to be said for that! Cheers as always Anthony. Thanjs for watching. Paul
Oot again 😉😁 Nice one Paul. Need tae return and do this ridge. Hope yer oan the mend pal. 👍
This was from last year Kev. Got loads of videos that never made it for one reason or another. Thanks mate I am almost back to normality! Hoping to get out for a wee wander this weekend! Cheers Paul
I got to where you were at about 11:30 last weekend. No specialist kit. Turned back, I was gutted, but wasn't brave enough to go the last part in the snow and ice in my work boots. After watching this I think I made the right choice. So I live to fight another day and I will try the other route next chance I get. I'm still yet to top a munro. Nice video. Thank you.
I think that’s probably the right choice! In the summer this is pretty straightforward and good fun but in winter it’s not to be taken lightly and there are some big run offs so best be prepared!
The other route is much more straightforward though but it can still be tricky in poor conditions…fingers crossed you get the first one in the bag soon and then the next and the next 👍👍👍👍 cheers again! Paul
@@PAADVENTURES1made it this weekend. Some snow but nothing compared to my first attempt. Well worth it, next either chonzie or schiehallion. Any recommendations?
@MrBoglocks fantastic! Well done!! It’s a great feeling to get to the top after having turned back before!
Both Ben Chonzie and schiehallion are great! I would say that Chonzie is easier but in good conditions both should be fine! I liked Schehallion better but that’s just me! If you are planning on doing them all then there are some crackers out there! My favourite so far has been Liathach 😎😎😎. Wow what a mountain.
@@PAADVENTURES1 thanks 😁 still quite an amateur but I'm growing in confidence. I plan to do a few more and would like to do the Ben More/stob binnein and Ben Nevis walks later in the year but I want to get a bit more experienced on a few of the "easier" munro's and work a bit more on my fitness first. I'll have a read up on Liathach, see if I can add it to the bucket list, thanks for the recommendation.
@MrBoglocks Walkhighlands website is a great resource for Munros and I would recommend it! Slow and steady I would say!
I have a liathach video! Check it out 👍👍👍👍
Stunning day Paul, my first winter Munro solo..been up it a couple of times ..camped on it the last time ..cheers Stevie
Stevie I wish I had foreseen the day and the night it turned out as I would have definitely camped up there! Still to break my winter summit camp! Might tag along with you guys this winter? Paul
@@PAADVENTURES1 No bother Paul
Thanks mate! I would like that!
Superb Paul. You going through your old footage and doing a winter hike video in summer! Or did I miss the snow? You got a cracking day for it. Loved the invisible man bit . I need to get more creative in my videos and this gave me some ideas. 👍
Andrew did you not see the snow at the weekend! lol....., I have so many videos that I never released due to time. Been out of kilter as I have had this covid thing so have been sitting feeling sorry for myself redoing some of these old videos.! better now and hoping to get back out next week. Thanks for watching mate! cheers. Paul.
Hi Paul great video! Like my last question regarding historic weather data and prediction for future conditions can I ask you when you did this walk? Would be a great help! Thank you very much Paul. ATB Stripey
Sorry Stripey I couldn't even hazard a guess! this was last winter sometime before lockdown kicked in. sorry mate.
@@PAADVENTURES1 ah ok, that's a pity. But definitely helps already. Thanks Paul
