- Easily one of the worst roundabouts in the UK, if you can even call it a roundabout, is the Mounthooly roundabout in Aberdeen. Covering some 2.5 acres, it quickly became known as Scotland's biggest roundabout and was crowned Europe's biggest urban roundabout when construction was completed in 1977.
It's been the scene of many a minor car accident over the years, and in 2024 it claimed yet another victim in the shape of my Volkswagen Caddy van. Honestly, if it wasn't for no luck I'd have none at all! The year didn't start too well for the Caddy, just days into January I heard the starter motor failure sound...or the click of doom as I've come to know it. I changed the battery, had a look at the starter relay but in the end there was only one thing for it. And then, just two days after getting the van back on the road, this happens.
With my hand forced, it could be time to upgrade the van with a Caddy Touran front end conversion a distinct possibility. I could try and hide the van's age a little, with a Caddy facelift conversion another possibility.
But as always it's coming to come down to a couple of things. Finding spare parts, and even trickier still, finding the money to pay for them!

What should I do when it comes to the rebuild? I present to you three options
1) Cheap and cheerful - swap the door over and get the sill pulled out.
2) Touran front end swap - I'm lead to believe it's reasonably straight forward and could probably be done in a weekend
3) The ambitious one - get a facelift caddy front end swapped over. This needs welding (which I have never tried)

Cars (and vans) mend...a minor bump, all things considered. Just an annoyance really 😂
Ah! It wasn’t at the West North Street exit was it? That’s where a guy in a mini drove into the side of me when I was on the motorbike, a sore bruised leg, bent motorbike, and 8 months arguing with insurance (despite the guy admitting fault) it was finally sorted, absolute pain!
Thats *exactly* where it happened! I'd come down Causeway end and was heading up towards Gallowgate in Lane One. Boy in lane two decides at the very last minute he's going to Morissons...via my side door 😭
Mirror image of my crash! Joined via causeway end, with mini behind so not as if he never saw me, as I turned towards Castlegate, I got dive bombed last minute by the Mini going from lane two towards the hatching and down West North Street, I was hit so hard I was pushed down WNS! His excuse was he was ‘just following his sat nav’ panicked about missing the turn off, and decided to drive into the side of me inexplicably!
@@adamrobson8318 Yikes, not good! Having thought about it since it happened, I really don't know what they could do to make the roudnabout any better apart from maybe "stay in lane" signs on approach to West North Street?

Bit of a kerfuffle.
You can say that again - its a sad state of affairs that something you're forced to pay for (insurance) has you full of the fear when it comes to actually needing to make use of it!
madness pal, why didnt he just give you £250/£300 instead now he is going through insurance will have to pay his excess and then have a claim on his insurance which will sky rocket his premium ,especially with the news that insurance premiums are going up anyway. headache all round for both parties
