This is a lesson for beginner & intermediate mandolin players on how to play the beautiful Scottish Folk Song 'Wild Mountain Thyme'. We'll learn the melody & chords in the key of D first so you are equipped to play this in any session or with a singer. Then, for intermediate players, we'll look at how you can play the melody with some cross-picking included and then add in some self-accompaniment at the same time.
(yes I know that's a Thistle in the image not Thyme)

You're an excellent teacher, Mike. Thank you for this.
i'm just getting back into mandolin after many years away being a workaholic dumdum and boy is the intermediate part delightfully frustrating. trying to take the instrument a bit more seriously this time around and very happy i found your channel. thanks for putting all of this together and helping my shake some rust off
Dear Mike, You are, for me, a recent find amongst all the mandolin 'gurus' competing for attention on UA-cam. You are a 24 carat discovery, so a huge thanks for your generosity in freely giving so much of your expertise and knowledge in easily understood and straight forward lessons. I am 81 and only started my mandolin journey two years ago. It's never too late to learn and you have been a huge help in so many ways. I can now join many of the numbers at my local pubs folk sessions and these eight music making strings have filled a gap in my life that I didn't really know was there. Take care and kind wishes from Wiltshire.
Thanks so much, you are right, it's never too late to start! Happy picking, Mike
that is so awesome!!! i'll never forget when i first got mine after playing guitar for a number of years and feeling like "ohhh this is my instrument". it was almost like coming in out of the rain in a way. greetings from a novice in new jersey!
Thanks so much Mike for your wonderful Mandolin teaching! As a beginner at mandolin, your videos are some of the best and are very appreciated!

The way you demonstrate building from the basic melody makes me want to try it. Thanks.

Great Mike, picked up the Mandolin after 10 years guitar playing. Your expertise has helped me appreciate how versatile the mandolin can be and how it adds a new dimension to the music. Peter

Wow i han only heard this in 3/4, But cool!
Yeah me too, it still feels odd in 4/4 to my ears but the majority of the versions you find are in 4 so I went with that for the lesson. Still a great tune in 3/4
What brand of mandolin is that?
It's a Kristufek, made by Edward Kristufek in Czechia ... sometimes known as Krishot in the US
@@MandoMikeLessons Thanks! It sounds beautiful.
