Recognize the "lot of time just looking and thinking how to move forward". Good progress, great there are replacement patches available.
It is an important part of these builds. Sometimes it feels like it is wasted time, but it is really necessary.
An old colleague of mine used to say ”it’s better to think half the day and do the job right than to not think at all and do it wrong the whole day”
He was always right about that one!
Admire your speedy progress, I’d have spent as long as that just procrastinating!
Got to give it to you ! You are very chilled finding that rust I would of started to panic and feel overwhelmed lol
I’m not sure if you’ve noticed but all the stuff you call tedious is the stuff we like to watch. It’s just amazing how much you can learn from watching you. 😊
These early stage videos are great.. Cutting away the rot and rebuilding the foundations
Jeff, great to meet you at Machines and Macchiatos today. Thanks very much for taking the time to chat, you were so approachable and down to earth, it was like catching up with an old friend. Great video BTW :) [Blue Mustang guy]
Great to chat mate. Good luck with the future Celica project.
Gotta say Jeff… I love your channel for several reasons, chief among them being your fearlessness! 🇨🇦
Jig, Mig, Tig, Big, Wig…etc…etc…great skill set Gungadin…Good missus too…Bang on.
A Thinker, Well Done, Mate
Loving this part of the build Jeff, I'm about to do all the rust repairs on my 67 F100 cab. Thankfully they've just started making roof skins for my model!
Also, how good are the guys at Classic Pickup Supplies, they're a great team!
This stuff takes a hell of a lot of time, great video very satisfying.
Wearing my Scheel-Mann hoodie as I watch this! Twins!
Haha. Represent!
A lot of 'sleeping on it' as you mentioned in an earlier vid, I bet. 'Sweet dreams are made of this'.
Really do like the variety of your builds Jeff
The nice thing about this project is the cab is relatively small so you won't get bogged down with a million rust repair videos as I know urchfab has talked about before. I love seeing the transformation and its inspired me to not be scared of projects. It's just one tiny repair at a time... although you do make it look easy!
I always wanted a hook lift style truck that picks up bins but instead of a bin, have a flat deck. You could drive the lowest car on it!
Damnit!!! 4:30 in the morning here....gotta watch it tomorrow....or later today I guess!!
Keep it coming Jeff, keeps me occupied, flat out in hospital. Could use some plates making for this knackered old wreck!
Reminds me of the rear end episodes of the Alferrari! Feels like classic Home Build episodes are back! Loving this new build!
The smile on Mrs. Jeff when you talk about the creativity of building and figuring the floor of the truck she has a lot of admiration for you. It's a beautiful thing, love your creativity keep up the amazing work.
G'day Mr Jeff,
Some serious welding happening in the back section. I do understand the thinking process that we go through just to get to the cutting stage and eventually welding. I find myself sometimes thinking about a piece for days. I actually keep a note pad by my bed for those night time random thoughts.
Anyway, thanks for sharing man ✌️ Peace from Melbourne/Pakenham 3810.
find one that isn't falling apart? nooo, that would be no fun. And this way we get more vids.
Go Mr. jeff go. hah, and Mrs. Jeff is a treasure.
Put a sunroof in it. Save remaking that funky roof curve.
That big bar will beef it up.
I really like the way you went about this dilemma
Really excited for this series Jeff! Just catching up on your videos this morning. Hope all's well 👍
Well mate, you are well on your way to getting this back to roadworthy I enjoy watching the painstaking time add to make it even better than what it was before. Can’t wait to see the transition onto the chassis tears mate.
Tip
If you’re not replacing the whole roof with a factory part . Panel beat it first before any cutting.
1:29 holy smokes! You drew that? You're incredibly multi-talented.
Really like your attitude towards each project. Taking your time and thinking everything out before you start. Keep up the amazing work Jeff your an inspiration to the home mechanic and project builders. Best wishes from the UK.
another awesome vid .thanks guys .
You have restored that beautifully, I can imagine that it is a lot of work and it is great that there are still panel parts for sale 🙂👍🏻
It's all in my head....Jesus, i don't want to be your Pellow...hahahaha. Something crazy it's gonna come out.
Hey up mate another good one, cab is coming along nicely considering how much of a pain rust can be also super good that those patch panels are available and worth every dollar
Great to see progress Jeff, i take a lot of time thinking.......🙄
Great problem solving of the rust situation- systematically removing the immediate problem, and move to the next one.
Very satisfying seeing the scaly, crusty old tin getting removed! 👌Thinking things through may take a lot of time and make zero content, but it’s completely necessary and will ultimately be the difference between a bodge job, and the quality we’ve come to expect from you Jeff! Keep it up my friend! 💪
Thanks mate. I really enjoy this part of a build :D
Never mind the dually concept, if you really want to make a statement then go for two rear axles. Good progress so far.
The proposed rear 'dually axle' is not about making a statement - but simply being able to legally transport a car on Australian roads.
Man I’ve done those repairs a few times to many. Thanks for sharing Jeff
Hi
Love the channel and your work. Been around since part one of the Alfa.
You talked about making a new roof for the Frankenhauler, Its hard to make a roof and it really takes time. Can you instead find a donor one that is close from a wrecker and modify that to fit.
Is it also possible you may have a a potential donor in your possession using the roof at the front of the Coaster?
Keep up the great work
For your roof problem if you cannot get a repair section, Ive seen @HalfassKustoms use panel sections from another vehicle with the desired shape that could be easier than starting from scratch. In particular I'm struck by the domed look of your roof that could be quite similar to the one from a classic Mini.
Lash ups like the chop shop?
Much easier to make a part that fits ;)
this is the episode I was thinking of: Using another roof easier than starting from scratch.

Love watching you make a cool transport from a rusted out hulk. Wish I had your skills and equipment Jeff but way too late for me now. (73 this year) Fun for me just sitting back and watching.
Never too late!
This is a bit rustier than I first expected. That’s lot of sheet metal work to do, and then faux patina to do… maybe reconsider the finish? Something tough like navy gray or army green?
It is actually what I suspected, so no big surprises. You should know by now I would never paint a car grey ;)
@@HomeBuiltByJeff Ha! True, grays are boring (as the owner of white and silver cars)
Paint it Jeff……… This rig would look fantastic in a red candy pearl…….
Looking good, great progress so far looking forward to see the hauler move on. Bill Mc
That sketch of the truck would work well on a t-shirt!
This is my favorite work you do making something from (NOTHING) Great Job
Looking forward to the Coaster teardown
Hi Jeff, just wondering if you're familiar with @xacoupeguy. Graham makes a living restoring mostly XA, XB and XC Falcon coupes and does his own restoration projects on the side. What you're doing with the F600 cab is very similar to the stuff he does. One interesting restoration he's done is a WWII Stuart tank with a loud and very thirsty radial engine that actually saw active duty in PNG.
Great work as always! Keep The Faith Jeff....
Lookin good, Keep at it!
Super Project 🇳🇿🇩🇰🏁👌🏻✨
Usually not a huge fan of replacing sheet metal with box section, replacing one part of a construction with something much stronger can make the design as a whole weaker, stiffness jumps create stress risers. But I guess since you are redoing the cab mounts too, that will give you the opportunity to even out the stiffness for the whole load bearing structure.
In some cases you are correct, but as this was already the primary structural part of the entire cab, it is only going to improve it.
Those flare side guards you have on the sketch doesn’t look right. Traditionally, race car haulers have large tool boxes underneath for jacks, Jack stand set. That cab support rail was nasty.👍
good job Jeff 👍💪
Make it a Targa! LOL
Hi Jeff, this will be a very cool hawler once you're done.
Q: Will something be happening with the Rockster any time in the future? Will it become your V8 track toy as intended?
Cheers and thanks for your great videos! 👍💪✌
New Roxster vids coming over the next few weeks.
@@HomeBuiltByJeff cool and thanks Jeff!
Ah yes, cogitation time. Or as I like to call it - "how the hell am I going to do this" time 😳
❤️🔥
Oi Jeffro, I’m loving this new series and where your going with the Frankenhauler.
For get all the sooks, this truck is going to be awesome.
P.S. Harry is boring😂
See what I did there bloke
Just where do you find the time???..don't you need to mow your lawn over the weekend... Frankenhauler sounds about right considering all the patching needed - not to sure about that barnyard look you going for. Hopefully not - but I think you going to be forced to paint it at the end - my vote for Lava Orange (its like a modern rust)
🥂👍😄
🇨🇦🤓🤟
👍🏻👏🍺
Great content! Are you interested in working with us?
Jeff have you seen the new Laser rust removers I think this beast would be a good test bed for one. laser rust removal 3000w laser cleaner 1000watt fiber laser cleaning machine
£1,158.41
I have, but they are expensive.
@@HomeBuiltByJeff So true but I see a couple of them seem to have appeared on the tube possibly sponsored.
What motor and transmission going to use and what duelly diff I'm in California
I believe Jeff may be using the Toyota Coaster motor (front wheel drive I believe).
I think so too, he said he bought a Toyota coaster go back to his December vids he introduced it there
@@maxwellduncan6150I think he is going to use the complete driveline from the Toyota Coaster bus, and it's rear wheel drive.
@@aussieaussieaussie9 Thanks! For some reason I thought it must be front wheel drive to keep a lower floor. Appreciate the information.🖖
Why not look at the cargo waste bin loaders, probably use the system you're looking for?
Not quite ;)
Bash the roof out and throw a sunroof in it. Problem solved.
If only I didn't hate sunroofs with a passion ;)
@HomeBuiltByJeff maybe a solid one like a BMW? It's got to be easier than fixing that roof. 😂
@@avengervordred Or a T top.
"Two inch box tubing, a couple of millimeters thick." Is that how it's really identified with metric Thickness and american Dimension?
It is 50x50x2 ;)
@HomeBuiltByJeff After I wrote this, I wanted to say I wasn't picking on the fact that you may have misspoke. I was genuinely curious if Some dimensions are standardized in imperial measurements? Sometimes there's certain nomenclature that just sticks regardless of where it's used.
I don't see why you didn't replace a long piece.
Because as mentioned I can only cut and bend 800mm at a time ;)
Getting there Jeff
Need to get 500K subs so maybe you can quit putting out fires
Dig the big F
If a Design is in an Aussies head, you can expect it to be fairly basic, counting to 10 has often caused problems for the average wombat, unless its looking at the final result of an All Black Hiding. Other than that good stuff
Please sort your repetitive music out! It’s doing my head in 😭 😭 🙏 🙏
