Hi Tim, I'm 76 yrs, Black American and I've gotten addicted to your videos, why, because
of you & you're not being of a tourist mindset. In the 80s I went to Bermuda and did the
same as you, I met and partied with the hotel staff, taxi drivers, pool halls, etc. when
we (wife) left people applauded us at the airport, saying they'd never met anyone from
America, like us...............I'm a historian & have always been into the social life of all
people. Keep up the good work, I love it all.

I have only had experience in a very non-tourist area in comparison to Tulum, and the things you were discussing felt real, from your discussion with the waiter about her wage being half a burger a day (equivalent at this places pricing), to meeting a guy who happens to manage the oldest hotel in the area and getting through his kind of stand off (tired of tourist?) attitude, to get him to open up and he ends up being a gem with some great local knowledge. You're flowing parcero! These moments, they are special, I have watched a lot because I miss Colombia a lot after living there for nearly a year, but I notice you are capturing real moments wherever you go, seems like you can not miss, in perfect flow!
Man, that lady really stepped on him, he shared a good place to get a fair price for a drink, she went right to assuming he is advocating that is what Tulum is all about, even after he was saying so much more. You are right she made some nice points, but that is why they weren't needed it was some pretty obvious moral stuff that if you think about it can really be applied to anywhere you find yourself, the earth is a miracle, but if you translated well (I'm learning) she was pretty rude to him, could have said her hippy love and respect speech without the accusatory tone, in my opinion. I'm impressed by how chill Omar was about it even saying he respects her opinion, after she was like that to him. I think she had good intentions though, so not trying to rag on her too hard.
Thanks for sharing all the awesome videos you have, I wanted to practice listening to Spanish but I really love this stuff, I do not like most travel vloggers I think they are too cold and not connected to the people they visit - often actually pretty rude. You are the opposite, and man seeing how much deeper those experiences I was lucky enough to have from friendly Colombians opening their homes and families to me, despite me not speaking Spanish, could have been so much richer if I was not limited to fucking google translate lol.. really motivated me to continue learning.

That lady is the typical person that gets offended for things not pertaining to her culture. She thinks she is doing the right thing. Meanwhile the real impacted party embraces the change because it is an opportunity that has allowed them to succeed. Without tourism most of those locals would probably had to abandon their families in order to seek a better future.

Nothing wrong with what the lady said. She’s basically saying commercialism in tulum is disconnecting the people in tulum with jts roots. Its very true and very common in other countries. To what that mexican guy was saying about the chemicals from the mississippi river flowing to tulums beaches, ironically there is a parallel there with his story and hers.

Tim, I know you've been in Mykonos. I live and grow up in Mykonos. What Omar was saying was totally true. Same things happening in Mykonos (and not only in these places, in any touristic place). Many beaches you can't have access because the Bars and etc are closing the access. Many know the island for the parties and the good life. But as Tulum (as it seems, never been there) there is history on the lands. Businessman and tourist must respect the people who live there and their history. Things in Mykonos nowadays are out of control. As the kid (helper of Omar) said, there are pros and cons. We have jobs and we do not make a living only from agriculture as we did back on the days. But insist respect the locals in whatever scope you may see from. Keep up with good work and continue what you are doing! Hope we meet some day; I would like to speak with a man with such experiences.

Buen video Tim.
