I lived in North Dakota for 12 years in my 20’s. It will forever hold A special place in my heart. There is just something about the people and the scenery. Most of all I miss the people “North Dakota Nice” is the saying and it’s 100% true some of the best people I have ever met in my entire life.

I believe the boys slept in the top floor and the only way to get there was by those steps on the outside of the house. Can you imagine going to bed when the temps were below 20 degrees below zero and the northwest wind was whipping across that lake?

My mom used to watch Lawrence Welk show every Sunday! She especially loved the dancing. In the 1970s, I found the dancing and music so old fashioned compared to the pop music I listened to. Today I am a big fan of Big Band music!

I don't know if you will ever see this comment but Lawrence Welk was a childhood friend of my Dad's. I have never been to the Welk home but Lawrence was at my home. He and his main guy from the show was with him. Wish I could remember the year. In one of the buildings you showed a sit on grinding wheel. I still have my Dad's wheel, it's in my flower garden in front of my house. My Dad used to help the Welk's with the harvest. My Dad had a large team of horses he would bring over and the Welk's would help my Dad's with their harvest. Yes the Welks were from russia. My dad was born on the ship coming over to america. there was a large German settlement at Odessa Russia and that is where they were all from, even my Mom's parents came from there and they all spoke German, in fact my parents talked German with Lawrence when he was at my parents home. And yes we watched the L Welk show every week on TV. it was a must. I am glad you did this portion of the video so I could see where my Dad hung out with the Welk's. some of the small town's I heard you mention were hang outs for my dad and his friends. brought back a good memory of my folks, I heard a lot of stories from back there. I now live in Oregon. I was born in Bismarck and my dad came out here to work at the army depot. some times I wonder what my life would have turned out if he had stayed back there and raised wheat. I think the cold got to them

I think they used mostly coal for heat back then. Trees are few and far between in N.D.! I had to shovel coal as a kid in south Fargo in the early 50's. My Dad had to haul water in two new garbage cans he bought for that purpose when our hand pumps froze up. I had 1 brother and 7 sisters. Lawrence Welk played on WDAY Radio. I remember us all dancing and singing to it! Dad played banjo.

Wow you keep mentioning Quartzsite. It's so funny to me . I lived in Ehrenberg Arizona and loved Quartzsite. 1998 and 1999. That mountain is the most beautiful pink and purple in the morning. Every day my daughter and I woke up early to see the sunrise ... you can't even put it into words the beauty of it all. Ehrenberg has grown up now. There was only one small trailer park there when I lived in it. There were about 20 trailers and only half of them were filled. God I loved that place.

Never forget him saying one and a two and off they went with the show. It's funny how states have the same names for towns, Her in Pa we have a Strasburg also they have a train Museum there and a real nice Steam Engine ride out through the Pa Dutch country farms. We also have some fantastic Auto Museums in the area. Lots to see in Pa and I really need to go see more of it. Enough of me blabbing and thanks again for sharing. Safe travels and good health.

My father used to sing with Lawrence Welk.”, During the summer barn dances. In North and South Dakota. Before he made it big.

Love all the history and heritage. I would love to spend sometime back then. I have Cherokee blood in me and would love to spend time with all the Indians. We need to give them back their land. You do great on all your videos. Would like to meet you if you ever come back through Ohio.

I remember the RCA record label back in our days. Glad no one is destroying the west history.
