    Another thing worth mentioning is that the crank and cam sensors can work fine till they experience heat from the engine and then break down internally. Had this on mine, it would run for maybe 5 minutes then stall and wouldn't fire until the engine was cold again.

    • @CartuneNZ
      @CartuneNZ  4 роки тому +1

      Yes it is. While Its not something I see much, it does happen. I've spent lots of time over the year warning up sensors to see if they fault or test driving with test equipment to test when it it hot and faults. Cheers Kelvin

    Hi Kelvin. So I have a 1992 Lexus SC400 1uzfe 1st gen engine. Recently since about 3 months or so my car randomly shuts off (every few days) especially after doing donuts (on the snow), revving very hard a few times, driving high speeds/high rpms on the freeway and then suddenly it shutting off upon stopping at lights etc etc. About 3 weeks ago i took a 3 hour drive and every now and again it would shut off upon pulling into the petrol station or service centre to rest, at loggts etc. On my way back, upon stopping to fill petrol the car shut off as soon as i stopped at the pump and then refused to start at all. No battery light at all in any of these many occasions. All I could say is that the cars shutting off intervals while driving were getting closer and closer till it was almost 4 to 5 times in a 1 hour drive around the city just to do daily tasks
    To cut it short i did the below mentioned:.
    Got vehicle towed home assuming it was the alternator because tow truck driver even got the car started with a booster pack once i reached home so thag i couldn park car on garage.
    Based on the above assumption that it was a alternator on its way out, I changed it with a new one but now i think was wrong because vehicle isnt starting at all. It cranks fine but it feels like there is no spark. Upon changing the alternator, on my first try to start the car, the cranking sounded fine like normal when suddenly (a few seconds into my 3rd attempt to start the car) the crank speed sounded "faster" and there was no sputtering of fuel or spark. Im stumped and my brain is fubar lol.

    My bad cam sensor signal turned out to be inducted by faulty spark cables and distributor caps. I use coil on plug now, and the signal is clean.

      Some aftermarket ECU are prone to interferance if they dont have correct shielding in the wiring. Ive seen this a few times now. Lots of fun to find. Cheers Kelvin

      Hello Billy. A lot of my early years as a mechanic was doing diagnostics and I also enjoy the process of fault finding. Well maybe I enjoy the feeling once Ive found it. Kind off funny as we had cam, crank issues when this loom was fitted onto the customers vehicle. At least I knew my side was correct. Cheers Kelvin

  • @pawelbujakowski1211

    Hi Kelvin! My 1992 Lexus SC400 has been jerking when going from Neutral to Drive. When looking at the RPM's I noticed the RPM's are ~200 lower in Neutral when compared to Drive. This consequently causes the car to jerk when going into Drive when shifting down from Park to Drive. I have calibrated both TPS sensors with the method you showed in your other video, Additionally have replaced all spark plugs & wires, rotors & caps. Before tearing into the crankshaft sensors for diagnosis, have you potentially came across this issue and think it might be a electrical problem (maybe crankshaft position sensor or bad MAF sensor) rather than a mechanical problem in the transmission? Any advice or guidance would be very appreciated.

    Hello! Just got a lexus with the 1uz, i have a code 13 which seems to be either the cam sensors or timing belt. Timing belt is spot on and isn’t off any teeth. But the cam sensors have a cut in them and the metal shielding is messed up inside the wires. Car drives great,idles great, starts everytime. Could the cut in the wire cause the code? Im assuming from watching your video the signal isnt clean due to the cut in my wire. Let me know what you think :)

    • @CartuneNZ
      @CartuneNZ  11 місяців тому +1

      Some of the later sc400 have immobilizer from factory and while I suspect yours falls outside the immo units I would recommend checking. If its non immo then another ecu should plug in and run provided the correct ecu is selected

    So, I'm needing help with this resistance test; I'm not sure where the pinout locations are, for G1 and G2? I'm also, uncertain exactly how you're placing the blk and red meter probes, i.e. blk @G1 and red @ G2? I'm certain, I'm at the correct ECU connector, but, then I'm lost.. unable to find accurate pinout diagrams for SC400 96 model. Thanks for sharing!

    Hello my 94 ls400 has a intermittent slow crank issue and a code 13 for crank sensor. Is the code and crank issue related? Half the time it cranks fast as hell and starts up. Other half it cranks as if the battery is low but still starts and runs good
