    I've run a lot of trucks in big fleets with those 3 position jake switches like the one you found. I'm not certain it is abnormal, I think that's how Kenworth Peterbilt and Freightliner have them configured from the switch manufacturer. It's weird but I've seen that on hundreds of trucks.

    interesting find on the jakes, had a issue similar on a m-11 Cummins, someone had over tightened the rocker arm support shaft, and cracked the support that holds the rocker arm shaft, the m-11s are kind of weird with their valvetrain, and the #6 valves were not sitting straight, and this caused the #6 Jake piston to bend and bind in its bore and get stick in the up position. took a few minutes to figure that one out lol.

    Speaking of Jakes, now that I've experienced them on the new X15 engine with Eaton Ultrashift Plus, they will put you through the windshield and lock up rear wheels if not careful especially empty. Now that I'm back in my DD S60 truck, my Jakes are just noise makers by comparison. I don't feel any retarding effect. Why the difference between two similar engines I don't know but I'm not touching mine since it just recently had an overhead ran by Clarke Diesel. My former 1992 Pete 379 had the 3406E and it too was more noise maker - less retarding.

      3406 A, B and C, 3306 , B and C are low, high. Starting with full electronic engines, 3406 E thru C15 BXS, 3176's, C-10, C-12, C-16 and C-18 used Jacobs Brake. Starting with C13, C15 MXS, NXS and SDP Cat used it's own brake made in with the IVA assembly.
      3306 engines you had to be careful, C336 brake used 7/16 push tubes on all serial numbers, including 9TL and 7RJ.
      336A was used on a 9TL or 7RJ used 1/2 push tubes on the exhaust. If you mixed them up and used the smaller ones on the exhaust they would fold up like a pretzel.

    When I'm using my Jake's on my 2019 isx15 I'm getting a lot of vibration, it seems like in the engine it self. I had kenworth do a overhead valve adjustment and adjust my Jake's, no difference... and they didn't say they found any problems. Any ideas what it could be?

    Can you make a video on explaining why you get turbo boost while braking with your jakes?

    • @acemobile9806
      @acemobile9806 3 роки тому

      I'll explain it as simply as I can. Jakes work by holding the exhaust valve open very slightly during the compression stroke. This prevents the compressed air from behaving like an "air spring" because it can escape from the cylinder thru the slightly open exhaust valve. In effect, this forces the engine to behave like a giant air compressor & of course it takes a good deal of energy to compress a large amount of air. That's where the braking force comes into play.
      To answer your question, the escaping air travels at immense velocity & pressure past the exhaust valve when the Jake is activated (it goes supersonic--that's why straight pipes really talk when the Jakes are on). The velocity/pressure is great enough to spin the turbine faster than it would if the Jake was not activated. A faster spinning turbine wheel spins the compressor wheel faster, so you get boost. It's also compounded by the fact that the engine isn't really wanting or needing the extra boost pressure being developed so it can cause the gauge to quickly spike.
