In this renaissance painting tutorial I paint with egg tempera the head of an Angel Gabriel originaly painted by the Master of the Annunciation, Fra Angelico.
Being a Byzantine Iconographer, I try to reproduce the painting using the process (but not the style) of the byzantine painting tradition. The hair were especially difficult to paint but my teacher Fra Angelico guided me thoroughly...Thank you Master...

Hi Antonis. I've been following and learning from your series of Iconography "Painting the Light" tutorial and am very grateful to you for producing such great video works and easy to follow tutorial.i've have just beginning to learn how to paint iconography and was searching through the UA-cam and came across your tutorial works as most impressive and easy to follow instructions. I'm now in the process of investing in buying some good quality brushes and would like to seek for your recommendation the type and sizes for each stage of the painting process. I've just bought a basic set of powdered pigments and a glass muller set. Once again, thank you for the wonderful works to share your God given talents.
Hi Antonis. I just found you and your channel and this was my first video and my favorite. Thank you so much for all your videos, please do not stop and I love how you can do anything from icons to reproducing the works of the great masters. Your voice is so soothing to listen to as you paint. I have learned so much from you and tell everyone about your channel. God bless you.

Thank you Ostara! I'm glad if you liked the video 😊
Just beautiful! What is the color for the hair first and second lights?
This is a really inspiring video. Thank you so much for posting it. I am sure to watch it more than once as you say so much to which I can immediately relate, such as: "Blending the first light with the proplasmos is 75% of the work". I agree 100% :-)
Thank you so much for sharing this with us! I'm so glad you find the video helpful!
Very beautiful! The complexion has a translucency, that I admire, never painted with egg tempera
Thinking of attempting to paint this study in oil
Thank you enjoyed the process.
Proplasmos, not sure of the term, though, will research
Amazing job!
Thank you so much! I'm glad if the video was of some help to you...
Wow! I so admire and appreciate the patience and diligence that went into showing us how this image may have been originally painted. And what a beautiful outcome!
Can someone say if the grapsimata includes the initial drawing, or does it refer strictly to the re-establishment of the drawing after application of the proplasmos? Thanks!
I would say both can be called grapsimata. Before and after the application of proplasmos
bravo!
Thank you so much Luciano!!!
Pls tell us more about how to mix egg tempera paint?
thank you. Is this oil or acrylic?
Hello and compliments. All the paint is done with tempera ? I use tempera only. Not oil, not acrylic.
what are you using for a hand rest?
Hey! Thank you for the question! I use an aluminum stick, mainly used here to hold curtains! Very low maintenance! :)
Lol!
Are you painting egg tempera on canvas or on wood?
Yes Marzena this is egg tempera on wood
@@PaintingtheLight Thank you so much for your quick reply. I love tempera technique (I've learned it a bit painting icons) but wood is so expensive or I should rather say: too expensive to just do some practice and experimenting on it. Can you recommend some compromise? How to practice tempera but not necessarily on wood? Ps. Your channel is a discovery of the year for me! Thank you so much for sharing your experience!
@@marzenamarzena2858 maybe you can paint on plywood prepared with some homemade gesso. Or hard cardboard for practice brushstrokes etc, but always primed with some gesso first.
very good! i susbcribed you! i draw too, i hope my art can inspire you!
I wanna saint this
LOL! 1 turk disliked this video...
