Photorealism is only a performance of skills, but in fact it's senseless, and wasting of time; the spirit of inspiration, and the live art exists in works like your one. You are great, You inspired me to find new way in my artistic work, i have thought for long time how to join the sacred art of icons with modern art. This video is important kind of answer for my question. Thank You.
Dear Antonis, I have started watching your demonstrations and am in awe of your skill, patience and kindness. I teach art in a prison environment and my students are not allowed to use oils. Many of them are extremely talented and unfortunately acrylics don't do any justice. I have been searching for a medium that I can introduce them to. They also have great patience as many are doing very long sentences. I have been watching the video on how you painted the portrait of George as it gives me some good technical information on the pallet. I will need to buy some basic pigments myself to give to the prisoners, could you advise which would be the most important colours. I also understand that Sennelier pigments are the best, is that correct. Thank- you again for your kindness. Mary-Ann
Μary Ann I am so grateful and happy of your comment.... Being of help for people like you is what motivates me in life....if I can somehow be helpful to those people then it really makes me very happy. Egg tempera feels more like acrylic than oil, in the sense that it dries very fast, but it is also a very silky medium that allows a painter to have absolute control of. I really love egg tempera for that. The idea is that you built the image in Layers rather than blending in one layer. Ask your art supplier for powdered pigments. Cadmium yellow and red, Ochre yellow and red, titanium white, cobalt blue etc... I have a video with instructions on how to prepare the egg yolk that might be of some Help. I do hope I answered your questions.... Egg tempera is a huge area of study but the results are great..... So many great masters have worked with that..... Thank you again Mary Ann.... You are very kind and I ll be glad to help you as much as I can..
@@PaintingtheLight Dear Antonis , thank-you so much for that help. Please could you send me the link on your egg temperature preparations video. I will start , I think by preparing my students a few gesso boards using the traditional method. I will also need to buy them some Kolinski brushes. Could you tell me which numbers are the best for starting.Unfortunately I cannot buy a big range of brushes as I will need to buy the brushes for the prisoners myself, so need to make sure I have the most suitable ones. I will keep you informed of my progress.Kind regards Mary-Ann
My friend Antonis. Your paintings are caught my mind forever. You are the best artist in UA-cam I've ever seen. If I have a chance to travel, I'll go Greece and watch you paintings. Thank you.
Antonis, thank you so much for posting these excellent videos and for providing so much quality instruction for free. It's really helping so many artists like me. God bless.=
Thanks once again antonis!! your tutorial is very helpful to all and informative and your painting is extremely beautiful god bless you and your godson well done bravo!!
Thank you for this comment Mark!!! And thank you for supporting me on patreon!! It's amazing to see that people are willing to financially help this channel! But I'll thank you properly in Patreon.. 😊
Dude Antoni excellent video is very informative congratulations for your choice .... to show the colors you make of the mix. I think here you set a very serious standard for people who teach agiography with a video. Again a big thumbs up for your work I'm glad to see your work. Good luck.
Hi Antonis, you had stated that you will do a video about mixing colours used in iconography. Pls let me know if it will be done soon. Thank you and God bless you .
That's so cool. Can you tell me what size paintbrush you use in the beginning? The really thin one you were painting in black with? Also what brand if possible? Thanks for posting.
Wonderful video thankyou so much Antonis 🙏You have so much skill and it is so much appreciated! Can you also use watercolour paint with the egg yolk, or is it not working like the dry pigment?
Your videos are very nice and I enjoyed watching them I'm wondering for the proportion of your egg tempura mixture what do you add to the egg what's the right proportion
I'm a little new with Egg Tempera and wanting to start with it soon. Sorry for the confusion but what sort of mediums did you use? All Egg Tempera? What did you use from start to finish? The videos are helping I think but I just want to confirm so I'm able to understand step by step. Thank you :)
This is all very helpful to watch. I do not understand how your colors do not dry out. It seems you are mixing on a piece of glass. The video is sped up, but you must be very fast anyway. I'm curious just how much real time elapsed from the beginning to the end of the painting.
Μπράβο! Πολύ όμορφο! Δεν είχα φανταστεί πως μπορεί κανείς να κάνει ένα τέτοιο πορτραίτο με αυγοτεμπερα. Η επιφάνεια όπου το ζωγράφισες τι ακριβώς είναι; Θέλει κάποια προετοιμασία; Γίνεται λες να βάλω μέσο σε καμβά και να ζωγραφίσω με αυγοτεμπερα;
How long did it take you to paint this portrait? Some say egg tempera takes time because the brush is used more like a pencil (more time consuming) but at the same time it dries very fast.

I have to tell you that this comment of yours really and deeply moved me..... I am humbled....
What??????? It is so beautiful!!!!!
I love what you said about embracing the brush strokes. I also don't see a point of painting hyperrealistically. That's what cameras are for.
Thank you for starting to show your palette. This definetelly helps!

Thank you Jody!! Egg tempera works only with dry pigments. 😊😊
you don´t wanna mess with george
You definitely don't!
This is a lovely and helpful video! Thanks you. Can you tell me what surface you are painting on, and how you prepare it?

1part egg yolk, 1 part water, few drops vinegar. There is a recent video of how I make egg tempera

I work Fast enough... The colors do dry but I make fresh on my palette if I need them. They don't really have to be a perfect match

Δεν τα πάει καλά η αυγοτέμπερα με τον καμβά. Καλύτερα σε ξύλο προετοιμασμενο με γκεσο... Κουνελοκολας κλπ
Hello
Is it possible to varnish a tempera painting?
Merci :)
Yes. I use a varnish for acrylics
thank you for your video. Can i ask, you painted this potrait on gesso woodpanel, right?
Thank you so much!! Yes traditional gesso.on wood panel
Does one need to seal the painting? if so what can a painter seal it with?
You mean varnish? I use an acrylic varnish in spray form.
@@PaintingtheLight oh okay. That is what I meant. Thank you sir
Which type of pencil is best for sketching faces, HB is too hard and leaves mark on paper after rubbing out mistakes
Maybe something softer like 2b or more
Please.. can i use primed paper for egg tempera?
I would try it although it's not the best you can use
Oh ok then
Thank you
❤️🙏
What material do you paint on?
This is painted with egg tempera on rabbit skin glue gessoed board

If acrylic paint were available to icon painters in the Middle Ages, then today we would admire acrylic icons.
