My sister and parents feed my nephew cereal all the time. It’s basically 50% of what he eats. Every day he wakes up with a cough, and has serious bags under his eyes. I try to tell them all that I know about the power of nutrition, and how they’re destroying this kids immune system feeding him sugar every day. But they say “he’s a kid, let him be a kid”. I honestly hate how conditioned my family is. They don’t take anything I say about nutrition serious. My parents complain about aches and pains, I tell them I can put them on a healthy good-tasting diet that would rid them of their aches and pains. But they are too addicted to sugar and aren’t willing to follow my plan. They’d rather get worse as they age just to satisfy their taste buds. I find it so strange honestly.

Typical attitude . . . it is easy to feed cereals, along with pacifying one's conscience with giving their 100% orange juice -- also full of sugar . . . and feel they have done their part as a parent without too much effort. I mean, why take the time to plan a nutritious meal for the kids. They love the junk which is so easy . . . and it shuts up their whining also!

I was so used to eating cereal and loved it so much that it was one of the toughest things to give up when I started keto, even though it could give me awful insulin and blood sugar spikes even at an early age. I distinctly remember eating cornflakes topped with sugar with a glass of orange juice when I was six years old or so, and feeling awful afterwards-energy crash, lethargy, what almost felt like a blood pressure spike -and not understanding why. I now know that this creates one of the worst insulin and blood sugar spikes that you can imagine, and millions of kids eat this across the country everyday.

As a kid, I saw tv commercials that say 'whole grain' cereals are the healthiest breakfast for kids so I always asked my parents to buy me cereals. I'm asian and that was not traditional for us but I thought I was the coolest kid in class because I always had American-style breakfast.
Unsurprisingly, I was a fat kid and now still trying to lose weight. It's a struggle because we don't have organic, high quality food but I guess I'm still better off than my old diet of all the foods Dr. Berg hates.
My fat loss journey is slow and hard but it's encouraging to know that I'm investing in my health and weightloss is just a part of it.

    Very well said doc.
In this world of morning cereals no one talks abt its harmful effects.
Being continuously on a diet high in processed , high GI, high sugar, chemically sprayed with so called vit D iron zinc iodine etc, high glutenecious foods , ready to eat foods etc will give high spike in insulin and increase fatty liver for longer period of time.
Depriving the body from natural nutrients from natural sources. Leading to autoimmune disorder.
    It is very true indeed.
I was never a junk eater. But I loved sweets. Never knew eating sweets regularly wud disrupt the Gut bacteria in the long run.
Solution : Hold on to native roots. Cook fresh food, avoid all packet foods , treat cakes , sweets and chocolates as luxury and never use it regularly even if homemade.
***Instant energy from processed /high carb / high GI food = instant energy crash= insulin resistance

At break time the school provided thickly sliced white bread, margerine and either peanut butter or Marmite, accompanied by gallons of overly sweet hot cocoa; the amount one ate wasn't supervised. I was obese, always hot, itchy and in pain, my face turned scarlet with exercise. I was bullied by teachers and pupils alike, I was unpopular as I never concentrated in class and was very disruptive. I am angry because it really wasn't my fault.

2% Milk though is pretty good for you! Besides the fact it is inflammatory, other than that it's quite good though! It has a lot of Potassium, has Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Calcium, Protein, so at least the milk in that cereal is buffering the effects of the sugar in the cereal

If you're going to eat cereal, there are a few brands out there that lean more to the natural and healthy side than your average General Mills or Kellogg's cereals.

CJ DUNROVIN you do know that there are 61 names for sugar. It’s the hidden sugars that essentially have us eating dessert all day under the guise of food. Look it up you’ll be surprised it’s not just the first 5 it basically the whole list.

My son is 14 months and hasn't had cereal, any sugar(aside from a rare piece of fruit) and only had gluten twice. He's super healthy, advanced, and freakishly big for his age. We will never have cereal in our home.

I am hoping my child will have at least a delay in insulin resistance compared to myself over time. I grew up eating biscuits and gravy (wheat packed and oxidized "vegetable" fats) every morning in addition to cereals, (usually cornflakes with a glycemic index of 90+) most mornings.
She does eat minimally processed oats daily, but she drinks almost exclusively water, she doesn't like sweetened things much at all, so, to me she will be in a better place than I was by a long shot. If this is sustained.

I wish I watched this video when I was growing up. I’ve eaten so much hospital in my life, I am also not a supported of the heart foundation charity one bit. All those stories about fibre and how good it is for the heart and all that. All lies and they are paid by these large companies. Shocking.
I don’t touch cereals and more. I stoped many years ago. The amount of sugar is shocking.
