    Actually the lack of crime probably had more to do with the mounties than with wealth. American gold rush towns were wild and lawless, think Skagway and Nome. Canadian gold rush towns were the opposite, think Whitehorse and Dawson City. Why? Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
