Ridley Scott Does A Complete Timeline of Ridley Scott Movies | Vanity Fair - Розваги
Can't believe Ridley is 80 years old. He in no way acts or looks it. I hope I'm as full of life and creativity at this age.
Did you not notice the constant cuts? He probably isn't as coherent without editing
He gets transfusssions of baby's blood
@@Monochromicornicopia Most interviews are cut -- they might even have talked about the other films and picked the ones that came out better. Also, what "as coherent without editing" BS? You know that he still directs 200-million+ budget movies, right?
@foljs
Nice straw man argument. Most interviews are not edited as heavily as this one. That's why I described it as "constant cuts".
@@foljs5858 and what he makes of your 200 million budget movies? - A Garbage
Shame such a great director has a 'complete timeline' that consist of only an 8 minute video.....
It would have taken longer if the video wasn't focused on specific films. Didnt you notice how more than half the flicks weren't mentioned?
@@jesschilders2333 I would gladly have preferred to watch the real full video if it exists. Just as I gladly watch the extended, director's cut and unrated versions of all of his films where they exist. Because he is the best director!
They don't talk about all his films
Considering you skipped over 34 years of his career, I would hardly call this a complete timeline.
I agree
😂😂😂😂
Anyone who tries to fit "Ridley Scott's Entire Timeline" in eight minutes is on a doomed quest
>a complete timeline
that skips most of his films
Yeahh, Legend, Some Watch Over Me, Black Rain, 1492 Conquest Of Paradise, White Squall, G.I.Jane, Robin Hood, Prometheus....
0:21 Boy & Bicycle (1965) short film
0:59 The Duellists (1977)
1:50 Alien (1979)
2:44 Blade Runner (1982)
3:48 Thelma & Louise (1991)
4:54 Gladiator (2000)
6:08 The Martian (2015)
6:52 All The Money In The World (2017)
And these are most of his good films. All the money in the world was a bit disappointing. Thank god they didnt mention House of Gucci
Thank you for this.
He deserves a lifetime achievement award for Alien, Blade Runner, Thelma & Louise and Gladiator all of which he should've won an Oscar for.
Are they not entertained?!
There is absolutely no doubt that he will receive a lifetime achievement Oscar, it's just a matter of when. I wish they would do it while he is still alive.
Black hawk down and American gangster too.
*The Duellists*
@@NeuKrofta Interesting film, I need to watch it one more time.
Such an amazing director!
Full of experience, creativity and skill.
He’s not braggadocious, but not completely modest either ... and rightfully so.
Let’s all appreciate his presence, his knowledge and his legacy!
Say what you will about some of his films, the guy is a machine.
sometimes a script may be lacking , but i struggle to ever fault his direction.
He's kind of like Walt Disney. In that he's great At directing, adapting. And above all making money. Out of material other people have written.
Alien and Bladerunner alone could've been a great career, let alone the rest of his works.
That is because he pretty much NEVER composes alone.. I can't believe he took the glory and made it sound like he composed the theme to pirates of the caribbean himself. It was Klaus Badelt who composed the main theme; and that's how it is for almost all movies... Hans Zimmer is not a person, but a company that hires a lot of composers and orchestrators. Hans Zimmer the person formidable businessman, but actually pretty crappy composer
Also, he has a private studio. PRIVATE. He doesn't rent it out to 3rd party engineers or composers. This proves he is a composer.
If you still want to be ignorant about the issue check out his Masterclass set of videos.
More like incomplete. You didn't go through all his movies.
Ridley can do as he wishes
i don't know why they would even call it a complete timeline
rename it to Ridley Scott, a partial timeline. XD
@@tgmusic5740 Ridley most likely did all the films shown but its Vanity Fair who edited it into click bait.
He needs his own documentary, like how Spielberg did with HBO.
james cowboy what about other directors like Cecil B de Mille , Ang lee , Peter Jackson , Tim Burton, Robert zemickis , James Cameron and Michael bay
@@theamazingandtalentedblake8296 Michael Bay?
@@thedarkknight9032 well maybe not him but definitely DeMille and those others I mentioned
Doing the math, he was 41 when he directed Alien. That's crazy.
It really is never too late. Unless you're one of those ones who are over 41. But I know that those people don't exist I've got plenty time.
@@pseudonymousbeing987 Directing isn't like football or modelling, how are you ever 'too late' with directing? 🤔
One of the greatest director's of all time.
You better believe it
We want the full version! Please tell me you guys covered all the films without the jumps? Thanks for putting this together regardless, the guy is a legend.
Yeah, it really wasn't "..Does A Complete Timeline of.." but rather a "partial timeline here and there". Would like to see the complete version of this un-complete video.
Ridley you gave me my favorite movie of all time, Blade Runner, I will always be grateful for this masterpiece and I'm saddened by Rutger's death as he was an excellent person in real life and that translated into the role that gave the soul in that movie, his role.
I've seen things you People wouldn't believe, really makes that moment, I'm so happy to hear Roy the actor played a part in writing that line, and Ridley allowed it. So cool!
do you mean Rutger Hauer famous line "like tears in rain" ?
His line about Oliver Reeds death actually made me laugh out loud. That's the proper British sense of humour right there. You go Ridley. Hilarious!
[STARS]TyranT I didn’t understand all of it. Where was Reed sitting?
@@borismuller86 in a pub drinking with sailors
THIS is a director. a master class. Thank you, Ridley!!!
Omitted his best - Black Rain,Blackhawk Down and Kingdom of Heaven.
My favourite director, love even his lesser appreciated films like Black Rain, Body of Lies, American Gangster, Kingdom of Heaven, The Duelists . A long with all the classics, Alien, Bladerunner, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down etc... so many works of art.
I loved American gangsta
All his films are visually stunning!! the way he films is 5 star! just a few script problems here and there :) I love Black Rain and I could say a lot about all his films but one that impressed me was Black Hawk Down! it was so busy!! loads of action going on but he was able to film it in a way that you knew what was going on!! and who was who!! unlike directors such as Michael Bay! who creates a bunch of mess and you lose track of whats going on
Black Rain is criminally underrated.
My favorite director too I remember watching Legend as child I was terrified of the devil, lol,
@@BooneLuleyo Soo true I love that movie
This is the opposite of complete.
The Xenomorph is easily the greatest movie created monster of all time. The design is just completely unique and terrifying. It's both beautiful and disgusting at the same time because of how perfectly made it is.
Gotta agree with you who wasn’t scared of that beast?
The fact that he didn't get the Best Director Oscar nomination for All The Money In The World AFTER he pulled off the impossible feat of replacing one of the 3 lead actors at the last minute still stuns me
I would love to watch a 2 hour video of this where Scott goes into depth talking about each of his film
He Directed so many Great Films! Sir Ridley Scott, Clint Eastwood and Christopher Nolan are my Inspiration not Only in Filmmaking but in Life there Mindset are Amazing!
WOW!!! He was 42 when he directed Alien (1979). And that movie is what made him BIG in the US!! Usually some young directors quit in their 20s and 30s because they can never make a movie, but his BIG BREAK came @ 42!! That's cool!! Which is awesome because Im 34 and I still have time to make it big as a director. Morale of the story, NEVER GIVE UP YOUR BEAUTIFUL DREAMS!!!!
Alien, Blade Runner, Prometheus, Alien Resurrection, Thelma and Louise, Gladiator, Martian....amazing! Favorite Director!!!!
He is one of my most favorite directors of all time and to be still doing movies in his 80s is amazing
Ridley Scott is the one overlooked director. I know he's not a filmmaker to win an Oscar but I still hope he'll win a competitive Oscar which will be for his career at this point if he gets an honorary Oscar to me that's a Booby prize, Oscar. If he stops making those awful Alien prequels then the DGA and Academy will take him more seriously he's the best director working today.
He should have 5 Oscars minimum
My favorite filmmaker together with John Carpenter. Always interesting hearing him talk about his movies.
I love how he says "dude"
+fundamentally
My favourite director he's amazing, just wish they allowed him to speak on Prometheus and Alien Covenant but other wise this is amazing
I've taken a genuine interest in many of the films that Ridey Scott spoke about. He certainly gave a pretty sanitised version for some of his films.
I for one can't wait to see the new film. It's overdue for the Academy to recognize this legend.
Probably a lifetime achievement award instead of best director
Fadhil Ramadhani His a complete hack
Didn’t he win the Oscar for directing Gladiator? That’s pretty good recognition of you ask me
@@jennifersman7990 The Oscar for best Director went to Steven Soderbergh for 'Traffic'. Russell Crow won for Best Actor.
@@toothlessrick3970 And Gladiator won for Best Picture.
great vid!!!
Ridley, a master!
This man is a master of his craft. Underrated.
Also, RIP Rutger Hauer.
dont think he is underrated.
Ridley Scott is Not Underrated but acknowledged by all - as one of the very best directors !
U skipped Prometheus 😥
sadly. i really liked that movie
I wish Ridley Scott had.
Best left forgotten.
Probably for the best.
for good reason lol
This is a great series. Do one with David Lynch. He has such a unique personality and some great stories about his films that would be great to see.
Wish this was longer and gave him an opportunity to touch on each of his films.
Thank you for making The Martian i realllyyyy love that movieee
Love this director & love the movies he’s directed such as Bladerunner and Alien.
Very cool. Ridley Scott is one of my favorite directors.👍
I absolutely love Ridley Scotts films
Ridley Scott says the word "dude" confirmed
I like how he talks while tilting his head upside left, looking like a Final Fantasy character portrait
I was that he directed that piano movie by my friend Stephen, Ridley is such a great artist. He should get an Academy award.
Ridley Scott, Tony Scott and Bon Scott. Amazing family.
Bon Scott?!😂
One of my all-time favorite filmmakers.
christopher plumber's green screening into all the money in the world is SEEMLESS and deserves a watch just for that alone (it also happens to be one of Scott's best movies).
One of the greatest.
One of the best
"Saving Money Dude!" haha Amazing.
He directed Blade Runner? What?! How did this man direct so many poignant films?! I'm just learning of him as a director. Amazing
Fun fact: blade runner is a prequel to alien.
My favourite Ridley Scott film would have to be BLACK RAIN (1989) it’s a shame hardly anyone appreciates it or even remembers it, it gets better on repeated viewings
Black Rain is a great film..revisited it myself a coupe of weeks ago.
I remember going to the cinema to see it-good film.
I'm pleasantly surprised to see how many in the comment section remember Black Rain. Very good, gritty action/cop thriller. I love the chemistry between Michael Douglas and Ken Takakura.
So confidant without being arrogant. I'm in film school and inspired by listening to him.
you’re my idol for great cinematography realization 🙌🏼 please take over hollywood again!! 🙏🏼🔥❤️🔥
I don't understand why Black Rain is underrated. This is one of my favorite movie of him.
I Love This Guys Vision!
Rest In Piece, Tony Scott. we miss you.
Love Black Rain (starring Michael Douglas and Andy Garcia) - wish Ridley had talked about that one.
This man's talent is making amazing films and down right garbage ones.
"keeled over and died" what a line.
I'm so happy he mention moebius
What a legend. So happy he's been knighted :)
Wish it went through EVERY one of his films!
Incredible director.
this guy, pure talent
Amazing
'Thats not a problem dude' love that line in this interview...the real Ridley Scott emerged in 'dude' fashion ... ;)
Aliens and Gladiator my favorites
Where's Matchstick Men? It's one of his best films.
One of the greats.
Would have been cooler if they actually did go through each one.
savin' money dude
Vanity Fair does that with all of the stars. Only chooses some of their films.
Marvelous career timeline.
Pretty consistent output.
I really like Matchstick men, another great flick by Mr Scott
BLADERUNNER is STILL the best sci-fi movie ever made. It was groundbreaking.
Well , the "best" is always an individual matter. Some like '2001', some 'Alien' etc. etc.
Ridley him self said 2001 is the best ever
A complete timeline of his films yet they skipped most of his films
Imagine how badass a xenomorph born out of Maximus would be!
He's amazing!
Ridley doesn't know how to make a bad film. But for me, his crowning achievement will always be "Alien," with "Bladerunner" also a modern day classic.
*”Ridley doesn’t know how to make a bad film.”*
I guess you’ve never seen The Counselor.
@@kramalerav
Everyone, including great directors, make turkeys sometimes.
I’m surprised he didn’t talk about how the studio made him re-edit Blade Runner and add in Harrison Ford’s narration
What a legend!
My favorite
don't they understand people are actually sick of short truncated soundbite-y videos? A director talking about each and every one of his films is something we crave!!
I can't figure out half of what he's saying but love the man's movies
You forgot the iconic Hovis Boy on the Bike advert.
Heard Ridley Scott was working on a battle of Britain movie lately, hope it gets made and released soon
What a LEGEND.
Just watched all the money in the world, what a great film
Ridley Scott's storytelling style often involves a strong emphasis on atmosphere and setting, drawing viewers into the world before fully revealing character connections and motivations. This can create a sense of mystery and gradual unfolding of the plot.
For instance:
-The Martian: The focus initially is on the survival of Mark Watney (Matt Damon) on Mars, with the audience slowly learning about his character and the efforts of the team back on Earth to save him. The plot builds up to emphasize teamwork, resilience, and ingenuity.
- Alien: The setting of the spaceship and the eerie atmosphere are established first, with the characters' dynamics and their individual traits becoming clearer as the horror unfolds. The tension builds around the alien threat and the crew's survival.
Scott often uses characters who may seem less significant at first but become crucial as the story progresses. His films frequently feature protagonists who rise to the challenge and "save the day," fitting the classic hero archetype.
Vanity Fair, you guys could easily get an intern to do the closed captions for your videos. Even regular UA-camrs get captions done.
Great stuff but it missed the movie I wanted to hear him talk about the most: Kingdom of Heaven. It would also be interesting to hear him talking about his "failures" like Legend and A Good Year or Robin Hood.
Cant beleive he's 81. Awesome
When he said I’m really good at budgets all I could think about was Aliens.
He does not look 80!
Will Becker he’s 80!??
He kind of always looked like that.
But he s not!
Will Becker I mean, he kinda does look 80, though.
yea you're right, he looks like a prick.
In 6 seconds I found a book on directing actors titled, Directing Actors: Creating Memorable Performances for Film & Television.
He's not saying there haven't been books written about how to direct actors. His point is that there isn't one definitive way to direct, no cookie-cutter methods that apply to every scenario. You have to be adaptable and flexible as a director and apply different tactics based on the situation, but the same could be said of actors.
Brilliant director 👏 👌 🇬🇧
Is there a full version that I missed?
alien , Blade Runner , legend those movie l like thank you mr.ridley .
Sir Ridley, what a big and better brother forever. I watched The Counselor and it scared the bejesus out of me. You see, a long-long time ago I had a problem with that powder up in my nose, and I have even been to Mexico many times too.
