Great video! Love the Play+, not because it's the best or the greatest sounding, the most flexible or the most functional. It's just FUN to Play like you said. It's a good time, like you said, "what's important" ... our job is to have fun! That it is for sure!
I was speaking to myself as well. I need this reminder as the noise will never go away. Thanks. Stay safe and Happy Holidays!

Thank you for the ‘positive rant’ 🙏🏻 Indeed, we make these devices to bring fun. They’re here to get your foot tapping and your head moving, to help you forget daily worries for a while. They’re for everyone, regardless of experience. Actually, no matter if you use Play, Tracker, M8, Deluge, Digitakt or laptop. It’s all about creating something. Anything. Quoting Kurt Vonnegut: „it’s very human way of making life a bit more bearable”.
Synthdawg does awesome manuals, glad to see they include a printed one instead of just a PDF link. Great overall walkthrough, I'm excited to see what you do with the new usb audio capability!
They included two PDF manuals on their site if you have an account. One is the one he shows here, the other is OVER 200 pages -- the printed one is meant to be just a quick guide, and the other has almost everything! It's really handy I use the search function on my computer to find answers about things I am confused about.
Great video! I really love my polyend play+. It's so immediate and amazing once you get the hang of it. I bought one for my brother to start his electronic music journey because I knew he'd be able to pick it up quick. We both got polyend trackers too, which we still need to dig into.
@@krazywabbit yeah definitely an interesting workflow. I think the Polyend ones are probably the most approachable. It's more methodical and involved, whereas the play is for playing. I often bring the play on the couch to jam out, not so much with the trackers (so far). It's more of a sit at the desk and concentrate vibe.
Thanks for clearing the air on the matter of Play +.....a lot of the gripes about it were putting doubts in my mind as to wanting one....its next on my list and soon to sit next to my Polyend Tracker...as you said...to make noise and have fun!
I'm lucky to have both the OG Play and the Play+. I powered them up, started a new project, and loaded the House pack on both of them. On the Play+ it took 36 second to load the pack (same time as in your video) On the OG Play, it took 1 minute and 40 seconds to load (100 seconds). Would have to try it with a couple more packs, but as for that quick test, the Play+ seems ot be loading the packs 3 times faster! EDIT; regarding the Piano packs that couldn't load on the OG Play, I believe that there was a "stealth fix" to adjusting the sample size, as I can confirm it's the same pack on both OG and +, and the OG loads those packs without issue.
Enjoyed the vibe of your take on all of this. Considering getting a Play or Play+ to go alongside my Circuit Rhythm. Was hoping Korg would hint at a new Electribe model at Namm, but decided I am not going to wait for something that might never see the light of day. What are your thoughts on the Play+ vs the Deluge? I am not seeking specific recommendations, just curious about your experience with owning both devices and how you use them.
Thanks Deluge is used for on the go, line in recording and built in recording of a jam. Play is that. Playing and having fun. Being able to use with iPad for Fx. Beat fill perform mode chance and randomization allow for fun. Sequencer too if you want but OXI covers most of that. All the best!
OK HAAAAALP. Before I go down the Wabbit hole (sounds lewd), how many CC automations can you do per step? For some reason when I change 1 step, it changes that same parameter for all on that lane. I've read the manual and it wont lock the diff param for diff steps, or am I stuck with 1 param per lane? This is just MIDI sequencing, also for some reason only when I have the step engaged is the modulation working, when I release its not working even though it shows step params. Have I done something wrong in the settings? T.I.A Halp me Wabbit, yoar ma only hope!!!
@@krazywabbit not a prob, I will go to the official PE forum, I really like the work flow but the idiosyncrasies are driving me mad. Thx for the reply.
@@Modrunnermusic both 😂 For reals, what is your objective? I personally think they are two different devices. One has a built in battery, an open source community Swiss army knifing it, can take line in audio, midi through, built in lfo, and many others. Play + needs samples to work granted with the addition of the synth engines, you can do some shaping. I think play has a better chance, randomization, fill and performance options. Play is great to jam. Deluge for making songs. Granted you do that on both. Once you’ve identified what you are trying to do, that will help in your decision. Good luck!
@@krazywabbit I make songs on the tracks and sequence other gear. The deluge seems like it can do more, but has a lot of combo buttons and can be really complex. What I liked about the CT was how easy and intuitive it was. The samples and sound engine were limited, only 64 samples to use. And only two midi tracks. I plan to sequence two or three synths in addition to my eurorack
I use a hub to connect it to my computer, one works for USB audio and one does not. Later will try a hub with a battery back plus other device, but did not try yet.
Thanks for this and the other Play+ vids! I came across your vids while looking to answers to some of my concerns about the play+. I'd ordered my Play+ a while ago and it hasn't yet arrived (It sounds like it's been backordered for a while?); in the interim i had seen some highly critical reviews, one specifically from Dylan Paris about how much of a "mess" the Play+ is, and had started to get worried that I'd possibly made a mistake picking up the new model instead of the original Play. After seeing your series of in-depth vids (quite frankly, far more in depth than any of the naysayers have actually gone on-camera) I'm fairly certain I'm going to have a load of fun with the Play+. Thanks again!
you are welcome and thanks for taking time to leave a comment. All that matters is what will work for you. Not Dylan, not me, not anyone. All the best and happy holidays!
@@krazywabbit I meant the part where you talk about having fun and concentrating on what matters, and letting go of the noise! I think that should be our focus in general… Having said that, how are you finding the stability of Play? I see people complaining about freezes, crashes, weird behavior, etc. I was pretty sold on this box until I read that!
I was going to upgrade my play to the play plus but after adding and converting the cost in Canadian funds l decided not to. The OG cost me $1000.00 the play plus would be $630.00 combined $1630.00 CAD for the play plus. Not a good idea considering what other gear is out there.
@@mojodrum3215 check the new Yamaha device which is going for US$399. It doesn't have MIDI tracks but has 11 tracks, wavetable and FM synth, and a sampler.

Haha. Looked at the knobs and they changed…I can relate to that experience from the OG.
The memory is the same in the +.
It is slow to load, but that’s dozens of samples being loaded into memory.
Yep. But that stereo is legit!
Between this and the Tracker Mini this is an ambient musicians dream
That is actually NOT the manual, that is more of a quick start guide. The actual manual can be downloaded from the Polyend website.
I’d call it a medium start guide. But who cares. Let’s play more.

Cool video. Does this machine play loops? If yes, can the loops be time stretched or do you have to prep each loop before hand?
This is not a looper like in koala or the sp404. You’d have to see the start end points along with the track length to get that effect.
WAY to talky, not enough showy. I know it's your initial thoughts but the visuals count.
I promise. More showy bits coming. Happy Holidays!
