Koala Sampler Knightcap

Koala sampler got an update today. Headline was a Cyclic timestretch recreating classic timestretch effects of 90's samplers. The melodic part of this jam was me coughing into the mic, using the cyclic time stretch, chopping into three slices, placing some random steps on the sequencer that sounded good, adding some kicks, snares and high hats than marching out a few variations over 8 different...

The new H6 essentials is the update the the 2014 tank in the OG H6. Some painful lessons were learned as I failed in a few areas. Not doing my research and properly reading the manual. The device was shipped back. The video is to help save others the embarrassment and plead with companies to do better as well.

Cleared all social media apps off the iPad. Trying to be more productive with my time. No clue what apps were used. I just load AUM, scroll until I find something and play. I feel I learn something more than reading the same style of posts on social media.

After gassing briefly on two hardware gear that might be on benefit to a non musical theory bunny, I opted to see what I already had. I’m digging it. The kids, well…

I’m not a fan of asparagus. That means more for someone that likes it. Same theory applies to gear. What’s bad to one person isn’t to all.

In the creative space, the chase for perfection should not be a goal. It should always be about having fun. Think about your favorite musician. They make everything sound perfect. Perform to a tee. I can find someone who doesn't like them. We are creatives. Not clinicians.

Prepping for homemade carrot cake and I decided to bring some musical geekery into the domain. Using an app, capturing the room noise and happily grating. Fun times.

Get into the matriceal mode at some point, that sequencer is a doozy! do you have the oxi split? It makes sequencing multiple pieces of gear so easy. Keep going ! 🎉
Agree on matriceal. That’s a massive rabbit hole! Yes, have the OXI split. Works and my brain wasn’t ready. There’s a story behind that 🤣
Hi Wabbit, hope you are doing well! What are your thoughts on the Digitakt 2? Cheers!
Upright and north of the dirt. Hope you are well too. I share my thoughts on the 2 in this video. Elektron Digitakt OG: Initial Thoughts from a Scrub ua-cam.com/video/zvpGR2BSqPo/v-deo.html
All your moves should be "L" shaped, mate.
I should do that sometime.Alphabet soup. Like being a kid again!
Zen With Zeeon. And LFOs of course. I really needed this right now.
still need moar!
@@krazywabbit I need more energy and headspace, LFO's can wait.
Afternoon to the hutch 🙏
Afternoon to the barn/pasture!
No LFOs were harmed I hope. Cool how small inspirations can turn into big noises.
The Midicake Arp is so easy and hands on. I have much fun with it for month now. Can’t see any alternative for me.
Good to hear. It’s definitely on my radar.
I have the Tascam PortaCapture X8 and im happy with it. Some quirks when using it with an iPhone but like it since it has recording modes for acoustic piano etc. I did own the first H6 for a while but sold it because it felt a bit old. Wanted USB-C 😁
Can you record audio from iPhone into the X8 over USB?
@@krazywabbit Yes you can. If you have an iPhone with lightning you need the usb to lightning adapter but with usb-c iPhone should work just straight in like it does with an iPad. But that should work the same with the H6 as well.
@@krazywabbit oh sorry this was what I answered to. Not sure it goes both ways actually but I would be highly surprised if it didn’t since you can hear your iPhone over usb in the X6 when monitoring it.
@@krazywabbit Reading through the manual, it sounds like Yes (at least on the X6 I was looking at).
i would have swapped the devices from left to right and right to left:-)
Understandable as we all have different taste :)
does this monitor have any height/angle adjustment with the factory stand? mine doesn't budge
Nope. I have it on a vesa mounted arm
@@krazywabbit okay thank you
I’m curious why you use the IRig2 unit. I just hooked up all four of my Aira Compact modules and then connected all the audio in and out with E4 last like in your video. I connected headphones to E4 and heard all units playing. I also had a microphone connected to E4 mic input and everything worked perfectly. Please explain why IRig2 was used
At the time of recording this video, this was on option shared to take advantage of sending external audio into the e4 from a device. If you find a way that works, run with it!
would this allow me to send midi patch changes to the E-4 from my PC using usbc?
in theory yes, if you know what the midi config of the E4 are, found in their manual.
@@krazywabbit perfect. I currently run my guitar pedal to my MacBook and send changes. Looking for a vox processor to do the same
will it work without being in the beta mode?
I would defer you to Rode. I don't use it in this way anymore.
Squirrelly Wabbit making swirly music.
life should be about being more squirrelly!
For more views I'd retitle this "How To Catch A Squirrel". This little soudscape would actually be very well suited as some kind of drone to solo over. Make it longer, set a proposed BPM and scale, and I will would be happy to add squirrels to it ;-)
Would “how much is that squirrelly in the window?” Work?
This speech touched my soul. I just sold a keyboard and took a huge lost. I keep buying synths/ drum machines and spend more time learning the gear than making music. 😢
It happens. You are human. Not a bad person. I hope you find your path that allows you to do what it is you want. Thank you for taking time to share your thoughts. Keep jammin!
Cool! 🔥
Thank you! 🫡
Great video - your thought about visual layout match my own, having come from DAW production. Just put together my latest dawless setup of Digitakt 2, Syntakt and Roland TB-3. I’m super keen on the OXI but wondering whether the 4 tracks will be enough for all 16 on DT2, 8 on ST and one left to generate interesting 303 patterns on the TB3. Can you give me an idea whether this would be possible?
Thank you for the comments and questions. I want to be honest in answering your question. I don’t love perform, so I’m not qualified. However, if you haven’t, check out Surco. He uses OXI with Elektron gear. He’s got some good videos and does live streams. Also super helpful. m.youtube.com/@SURCOlive
Thank you very much!!
thank you Mr Wabbit for sharing your photographs and sonic experimentations... always enjoyable watching these first thing in the morning 🙂
Thanks for taking time to stop by. Have a good rest of your day Mr. Andy.
Great piece, some parts got me straight back into the aussie outback, really enjoyed it.
Appreciate that. Have fun out there or back or everywhere!
Some fun, some scary, all weird sounds in here, but I think no real ducks were harmed in the making, so all is good.
They did question some of the choices as well yet management hasn’t been contacted. Yet.

How you Connect your macbook with your m28u, which cable thx
USB c to usb c
very positive LFO vibes indeed Mr Wabbit 🙂
thanks Mr. Andy!
Too jarring of an intro. Considered deleting this. But that’s not how things work. Don’t share all the good imo
Sometimes the glass surface is not your best friend, but underneath is still all the musical power you'd need.
As long as I don’t get cut and bleed out 🤷🏼♂️
What is the model of the cables you use to connect midi through the Rolands. Do you use sync but also midi? why?
I thought the picture was telling us that even a bird-brain can make music.
with our tools today and the right table scraps, no doubt!
Nice 🎉
thanks!
I remember a time where a Wabbit told me he would not engage in song making. Must have been a different carrot then, because this one surely does and it booms.
I am human. Humans are hypocrites. I am a hypocrite! Thank you!
@@krazywabbit I wouldn't want it any other way hahaha.
Berliner Schule vom Hasen ❤
This is one I’ve considered deleting. Too jarring of an intro
I was offered a collab a week or so ago, amazing song. My friend was gonna delete it because he said it was boring, but together we made it into something amazing. One man’s shit is another’s gold 🐄🙏.
Great video! I really love my polyend play+. It's so immediate and amazing once you get the hang of it. I bought one for my brother to start his electronic music journey because I knew he'd be able to pick it up quick. We both got polyend trackers too, which we still need to dig into.
Thanks! Brotherly love! I’m on the fence with the Trackers. Scare me yet look fun and sounds great!
@@krazywabbit yeah definitely an interesting workflow. I think the Polyend ones are probably the most approachable. It's more methodical and involved, whereas the play is for playing. I often bring the play on the couch to jam out, not so much with the trackers (so far). It's more of a sit at the desk and concentrate vibe.
kool driving beats Mr Wabbit! 😀 that bird looks seriously impressed too
Thanks. I really liked how this turned out! Bird just here for food!
bouncy goodness!
Little jarring. Oops
That woke me up!
Yeah. I didn’t even knock. Rude.
Tip on MIDI/audio 3.5mm cables: People need to read their device manual to know if MIDI A or MIDI B is used. Cables look the same but are internally wired slightly different but enough to not be compatible without A/B adapters. Different companies managed to come up with two wiring methods. Google "midi a vs midi b cable" and Gearspace has a post including a link to a site listing companies and if they are A or B. If not familiar, one will also learn about TRS (two black rings; Tip/Ring/Sleeve) cables where the alternative cable type is TS (one black ring; Tip/Sleeve) that one would use with modular devices connected to the back of the OXI One. Sharing as I had to learn about this MIDI A/B industry fail after buying an OXI One, Arturia Micro Freak, Empress Effects ZOIA Euroburo and Conductive Labs MRCC MIDI patch bay. Some devices come with TRS audio to MIDI cable adaptors and some don't. The MRCC has a few inputs and outputs with both A and B ports. 3rd video watched. Maybe you've covered this in a different video. Hope it's helpful to someone.
i like the simplicity of this set up, very nice.. is Animoog Z doing the pad sound?
Thanks! Yes! And Aparillo.
What a wild ride! I love it!
Thanks! Hope it wasn’t too bumpy
It makes me very happy to watch a video made by you about the LFOs I love so much. Oh, also try if the destination of one LFO can be another LFO, happy accidents might happen!
It makes me happy you took the time to explain active sensing. That tripped me out to learn you could lfo an lfo. That’s a potential infinite rabbit hole!
@@krazywabbit Those are the places wabbits get krazy!
"Active Sensing: A system used to verify that a MIDI connection is working. It involves the sending device sending frequent short messages to the receiving device to reassure it that all is well. If these active sensing messages stop for any reason, then the receiving device will recognise a fault condition and switch off all notes. Not all MIDI devices support active sensing." I would say neither S-1 nor Oxi ONE are at fault, but it would be very helpful if on the ONE you could filter the incoming MIDI to not show events you do not need. The MIDI Monitor indeed is a newer feature so perhaps you can email the creator to make a filter option.
Good to know. There might be a setting there already. I’ll take a look. Thank you!!
