There are a few inconsistencies here. The main ones being: 1) Hürrem’s birth name was Alexandra or Anastasia. She was known as Roxelana due to her red hair. 2) Shezade Abdullah was the third son of Suleiman and Hürrem, not the second. (Both Mehmed and Selim were born before him). 3) There is no evidence that Sultana Hürrem and Rüstem Pasha were involved in Mustafa’s death - it was a rumour spread by her enemies, which many have latched onto. But the allegations have never been proved. 4) Selim did get a military assignment, like the rest of Suleiman’s sons, as this was the norm for all adult sons of the sultan. In fact, he succeeded his brother Mehmed as Governor of Manisa following Mehmed’s death in 1543. Later, he was assigned to go to the province of Konya. 5) Also, what about Suleiman’s other two sons from when he was a Prince (Shezade Mahmud and Shezade Murad), who both died in 1520? If you’re going to include Shezade Abdullah who died in infancy, then shouldn’t they be included too? There are admittedly a lot of things we don’t know about how things were in history (as records weren’t always kept accurately). But if you’re going to make a video based on historical facts, then surely fact-checking is a must?
Thank you for your contributions, all great points 👍 Video starts with Shehzade Abdullah because I wanted to talk about the period where Hurrem is involved.
It is well known that Shezade Abdullah was the third son of Sultan Suleiman and Hurrem. He died in infancy. Two of Suleiman’s other sons (who he had had before he met Hurrem) also died in infancy, along with a daughter. It is unclear who their respective mothers were although it is widely assumed that at least one of them was the son of Gülfem. We know all this because of letters found and other historical evidence. Might be good to read those instead of trying to rely on a fictionalised TV show…

about " marrying concubines and foreigners " ... well, he was the biggest boss in his empire, who are you to judge him for whom his heart wanted to marry? :) Those "concubines" and "slaves" were people kidnapped from their countries and forced into slavery and sex services, so why anyone should blame them for being slaves? The prolonged internal rebellion made the Ottomans lose focus on developing their firearms, until the allies of Russia, Great Britain and France, who had been eyeing Ottoman territory for a long time, attacked the Ottomans using more modern firearms, of course.udtxut
OMG, 6 SONS and EVERYONE WAS NOTHING BUT A FAILURE except for Abdullah. Even Mehmed as a good kid with purest heart still not as strong as Mustafa. Cok Yazik!
In fact, the historians said that Mehmed seemed to be the best heir. He had the most qualities to be a sultan, qualities that Mustafa didn't have. Mustafa was a good governor of Manisa but Mehmed was even better, he surpassed Mustafa. They said Mehmed had this qualities among others "temperance, leadership, humility and justice" and he always obey the sultan. It is seemed that Mustafa faults temperance and humility and not always obeyed the sultan, was rebel and influenciable. Suleyman was upset with him because he had surrounded himself by powerful people that influenced him in Manisa, that's why he decided to send him to Amassia. It is also said that the good job that Mehmed did as a governor of Manisa and as he surpassed Mustafa worried Mahidevran's circle and there is a supposition that she was involved in his death, but not proofs, then officially cause of death is smallpox. There were rumours that they had a party in Amassia when Mehmed died, but only rumours... These information is from historical articles I read
Bayazid was warrior, brave but extremely impulsive, rebel and disobeying the sultan. He attacked first his brother Selim with the intention of killing him and his son Murad. That's why Suleyman sent his army to help Selim and they defeated Bayazid that took the decision to cross the border to the Safavide Empire, the biggest enemy of Otoman Empire at that time. This was considered as betrayal and that's why his execution
Mustafa was brave, warrior, good governor, but rebel and disobeying the sultan (not as much as Bayazid) and also influenceable by powerful people and also was influenced by his mother rivality with Hürrem. He kept a rivality with Hürrem due to his mother rivality. He had a good relationship with his brother Mehmed till his father named Mehmed governor of Manisa. Starting with that point it is seemed he saw him as his rival. The people that supported him were powerful people that wanted to remove "devșirme" from the high positions they got. What is a devșirme? Converted into Muslim (from others religions, most of them Christians) and also means "blood tax", meaning that Ottoman Empire "charged" ocuppied countries (Balcans in general) kids as a "blood tax" transforming them into slaves for the Ottoman Empire (army, eunucs, odaliscas, concubines). They were converted in muslims and serving the Ottoman Empire. Most of the Janisaries were "devşirme". Some of them due to their qualities got key positions, that those people (Ottoman) thought that those positions belonged only to Ottoman blood. Hürrem and Ibrahim were devşirme too. Well, Mehmed, Selim and Bayazid were Süleyman's boys with a devșirme mother, meanwhile Mustafa had a mulsim mother...
Suleiman had a great legacy marred only by his poor recognition of his children. In the end he left his empire to a drunkard son while he is remembered for betraying and executing his most capable one.
You are right. Although public used Istanbul more frequently, on official papers the city is referred as Constantinople till 1930. I used both names for a wider understanding.
Because they had to endure the dynasty continued and child mortality rates were very high. There had to be multiple children who grew up as back up plans.
A chronological order of the sons' would have made your video less confusing and more lucid and flowy. Clarity for coherence is very important. Crucial.
Some information are wrong. There is no legitimize in Ottoman place because all şehzades are legitimate, so Suleyman not married because of that with Hurrem he married her other reason that he let her free so she became free from slavery situation that mean for Islamic rules they had to marry. In Ottoman it's different understanding of legitimate children far from western understanding. Also we can't specifically say that Suleyman send to his favorite son to Manisa it is far more complicated than that. There might be fear that Suleyman had to share his grandfather's destiny which his overthrone by his son Yavuz, Suleyman's father. Some historians says that Mustafa had similarities as characteristics of Yavuz. Which may be led Suleyman to not to give him the governance of Manisa etc.
Suleiman also knew how popular and capable Mustafa was. People in the empire even preferred Mustafa over Suleiman after a point, as they'd grown bored of the old ruler and wanted young, talented Mustafa instead. Mustafa also had the loyalty of the Janissaries and was good at literally everything (campaigns, politics, well educated and talented). It's natural that Suleiman would have been jealous or atleast insecure of his position. However, the fact that he killed his son was disgusting.
@@venkataramadasvivekanand8662 We can not absolutely say disgusting that Suleyman's execution of Mustafa cause in Ottoman low there was low about killing your kin because of the good of realm which mean if there will be war between two the death number will far more great than one. Mustafa accused of readying a rebellion but a lot of historians says it was a trap for Mustafa that he didn't have that type of plans but at the end Süleyman believed the accusations about him and take the approve of grandjudge to kill his son. For a modern person yes it's a bad thing but in that age it's common.

Thank you for your comment. I used English pronunciation for "Sultan Suleiman" but Turkish pronunciation for "Hurrem Sultan". That sounded more authentic to me.
True. There might be even more, there were no documentation for birth at the time. The ones you mention: (Allegedly) Mahmud dies at the age of 9 and Murad dies when he was not even a year old; both from illness. Thanks for your comment.
Hurrem was evil for plotting against Mustafa, Sultan was blinded by love. Henry VIII would have had her murdered if she was his wife. She paid for this sin by not surviving long enough to become the Hasike Sultan, have a son murder another of her sons, and Selim turned out incompetent...
Also called Grand Duchy of Muscovy. a principality founded c1271 and centered on the ancient city of Moscow. Its rulers gradually gained control over the neighboring Great Russian principalities and established the Russian Empire under the czars.
There is 0 evidence that Hurrem conspired against Mustafa- even if she did pick sides (which...yeah, probably). This has been debated by historians through the years, and evidence is still needed if you are to present information as if it were historical facts.

The most beloved child was Mustafa. Mehmet became the favorite after Mustafa's death. Hürrem wasn't close with Mehmet. She visited him once when he left.
Mehmed died before Mustafa due to a disease. Mustafa was the favorite till Mehmed was a born. After Mehmed Mustafa again become the favorite till he was wrongly executed.

10:30 minutes i love how the dog in the painting is wearing a turban
The original painting is by Hans von Aachen, it is called Allegory of the Turkish war - The declaration of war before Constantinople.
I watched the series thanks for all the painting that really gives an insight.

Thank you for your comment
Capital city of Ottoman empire was not named Istanbul until 1929..It was named Constantinopol
You are right. Although public used Istanbul more frequently, on official papers the city is referred as Constantinople till 1930. I used both names for a wider understanding.
Wonder what Osman would have had to say about all this…
Food for thought
OBVIOUSLY THEY MUST BE THE KNOWN OR MAIN CHILDREN THEY HAVE IN THE STORY, I SUPPOSE THERE WERE MORE DAUGHTERS AND SONS

Mustafa was the best by far. And Mahidevran was an extremely intelligent, kind, beautiful woman who would have made a great Valide Sultan.
Thank you for your comment
How do you know?
The winner would have had to kill all the others, anyways..Suleiman had no brothers, and avoided that trouble..😢
You're right.
Why polygamy then?
@catherinebrau3523 Don't think you could call it actual polygamy, since there was rarely any marriage involved..
Because they had to endure the dynasty continued and child mortality rates were very high. There had to be multiple children who grew up as back up plans.
He had they survive to adulthood but they died before their dad for a reason or another and Suleiman was the only one left you can look for it
nice
Thanks 👍
A chronological order of the sons' would have made your video less confusing and more lucid and flowy. Clarity for coherence is very important. Crucial.

Czy są podobizny obrazy jak synowie wyglądali
Tylko ci, którzy zostali sułtanami, zazwyczaj mają obraz przedstawiający jego wizerunek.
Thank you for your contribution 👍
@@iremaytekin2321 he did kill mustafa out of jealousy

Please do everyone a favour this video has a pronunciation of a word wrong please pronounce the word right and probably the word that is wrong in pronunciation is sultan thank you
Thank you for your comment. I used English pronunciation for "Sultan Suleiman" but Turkish pronunciation for "Hurrem Sultan". That sounded more authentic to me.

Suleyman had 10 children all together, 8 sons and two daughters. What happened to his other sons?
True. There might be even more, there were no documentation for birth at the time. The ones you mention: (Allegedly) Mahmud dies at the age of 9 and Murad dies when he was not even a year old; both from illness. Thanks for your comment.
It's true, suleiman's most beloved and favorite son was mehmed, but he died because of small fox 😢

Keine gute Übersetzung 😢
Entschuldigung. Die Übersetzung erfolgt durch Google 😞
Interesting comparison. Thank you for your comment
What is “Muscovy”?
Also called Grand Duchy of Muscovy. a principality founded c1271 and centered on the ancient city of Moscow. Its rulers gradually gained control over the neighboring Great Russian principalities and established the Russian Empire under the czars.
You should have watched the Magnificent Century from Turkish TV before making this video, AI is everywhere haha
Thank you for your comment
There is 0 evidence that Hurrem conspired against Mustafa- even if she did pick sides (which...yeah, probably). This has been debated by historians through the years, and evidence is still needed if you are to present information as if it were historical facts.

Wrong. 8 sons. 2 daughters. And you could at least learn how to pronounce the names.
Thank you for your comments. In the video it is indicated that "Hürrem had never experienced the loss of a child in infancy due to diseases before, unlike Suleiman who had buried some of his children". The video simply starts the narration with the death of Abdullah.
@@Sir-Bacon the title of your video says : "Suleimans sons". Not "some of Suleimans sons" or " Suleimans sons starting with Abdullah". So. Just admit you didn't do a good job. And really, next time work alsow that pronunciation.
Suleiman the reason behind Ottoman Empire’s long downfall from grace. How ironic.
Thank you for your comment.
Actually, the downfall started with Murad, Selims son and Mehmet, Selims grandson who was pinned at starting the downfall.
The most beloved child was Mustafa. Mehmet became the favorite after Mustafa's death. Hürrem wasn't close with Mehmet. She visited him once when he left.
Thank you for your contribution. 👍
Mehmed died before Mustafa due to a disease. Mustafa was the favorite till Mehmed was a born. After Mehmed Mustafa again become the favorite till he was wrongly executed.
Mehmet died before mustafa
Are you existing that time ?
What are you even saying? Mehmet died before Mustafa.
Are there still descendants of these people and places they lived in? Or are they still in existence or is the legacy just died?
Even people who lived in the palace and so on wonder if they have people who are alive today related to them?
There are descendants of the Ottoman family, but they were living in exile since the Turkish Republic. You can see Topkapi Palace and some other palaces in Istanbul.
