  • Alistair went for a solo adventure taking in the summits of Stob a’Choir Odhair and Stob Ghabar on the Black Mount in superb atmospheric conditions. The route starts near Bridge of Orchy on the West Highland Way and appears to be a much less travelled path than it’s neighbouring Munros.

Great walk there Alastair! Pity about the low cloud but you did get some reasonable views! That waterfall is impressive and makes for a tasty descent. Well done mate! Paul

Thanks Paul. The ridge and final descent gave spectacular views which made up for the cloudy summits.

A great solo video there well done you look very confident out on your own compared to your earlier videos 👍And how typical is it for the clouds to clear when you get off the mountains 😆

Thanks David! I love going for a solo hike and that day felt really special with the feeling of remoteness and the clouds coming and going.

@@HighlandHikers solo hikes are brilliant lots of positives no time restraints no chasing anyone up the mountain no waiting on anyone rather than yourself more often than not you always bump into someone that’s pretty sound and enjoying the mountains as much as you although it can be a bit dangerous in the winter months up there on your own I’m just as happy hiking solo or with my hiking buddy happy hiking mate may bump into you 1 day up there 👆 ⛰️👍

I love those moments when the clouds part just enough to give you a glimpse and then close again. It's like a wee moment in time that won't be shown again, love it!
I can't believe you didn't look in the window 😂 I would have been pressed against that glass until someone chased me. Now I'm even more curious as to what's in there, it could have been the Holy Grail 🏆

😂 normally curiosity would get the better of me however there were a few people going in and out that morning when I passed and I was certain I’d just be looking in at some half dressed guys just chillin.

Shame about the views but well done, a tough solo hike.

The clouds lifted as soon as I was off as well! Was still treated to views in between the summits which made up for it a bit. Definitely tougher than I expected too.

Lovely wild views, despite the drab weather. It's one of my favourite places, and the first time I did these two I got very similar conditions, although I did see a big hare at Stob a' Choire Odhair. The next time I climbed Stob Ghabhar, in February, I got lovely weather and views. That's Scotland I suppose.

Thanks Natalie, this was one of my favourite walks so far. Loved the rockiness and sharp descents from the summits, with the clouds just making it even more atmospheric. I’ll be back on these 2 again in the future.

Good stuff, how difficult would you say it was and how was the path to follow. Thanks

The path was very straightforward to follow but it did have a few steep sections, with the climb to Stob Ghabhar steep and exposed. No scrambling required though.
