Joey used to write almost all of some Slipknot songs, including guitar and bass parts. Yes he did change it up sometimes when playing drums live. In some songs he would sometimes shorten double bass parts (like here) or add them to sections of songs that don't have them on the album. If the adrenaline was high he was also known to play faster. It seems crazy to me what with how acclaimed Joey was, that there's not more decent drum cam footage of him playing. Over a decade in the spotlight and the best footage available is still these clips off a 20-year-old DVD (apart from a few recording and soundcheck clips off other official DVDs).

I think Paul contributed a lot on their early albums as well, but yeah, Joey definitely wrote a lot, and helped with mixing on albums I believe. Most people focus on his drumming (and for good reason) but he was a pretty solid guitar player and riff writer as well (grew up listening to him as a guitar player in Murderdolls). Definitely wish there was more high quality footage of him from back then.

Yes Joey and Paul wrote almost everything guitar riffs, bass and Joey said that he always hav in his head drum parts before he even write a song. That's why he was amazing pure talent1️⃣🤘🖤

@@merym724 Joey, Paul and Clown made almost all the music from the early albums, then Corey did lyrics of almost everything too. You can feel that without Joey and Paul the music is not the same (not that it's wrong, but different). Idk if Jay Weinberg is doing any music at all nowadays or it's just clown doing the drum parts.

10:50 When Joey was in Slipknot I think he used to write a lot of their music (along with Paul) including guitar parts. He actually started playing guitar as a kid (around age 5 I think) before he switched to drums later on. I know I saw an interview with him where he stated that when he writes a song, he always starts on guitar first and then writes the drum parts later.

10:50 to answer you, no lmao their numbers also correlate to their position in recording, joey always goes first with recording or setting a demo track to make actual recordings to, then re writing the drums later on
also answering your question about if he plays the same live everytime, yes and no. tempos change in tours, over all he plays it exactly the same, but once ina while he will half time the double bass like in liberate to make it more punchy, or he will throw in a little fill that involves bells, for the most part joey never changed the exact way he plays songs. doing custom fills or over all adjustments to the drum structure is more jays style with how he mixes things up with blues/jazz style drum fills.

Joey and his blast beats were and are one of a kind. His sound is just on an epic level. He was self taught and learned to play bass and guitar. He wrote many songs in Slipknot. Between cymbal chokes and playing them with his hands when going off, his hands would get all busted up. Jay does the same and posts pics of his hands sometimes.
Joey is the reason I got into drumming and am self taught as well. I have been a maggot since first Ozzfest when I saw them and couldn't believe what I was seeing and hearing. RIP JOEY AND PAUL. You will be forever missed brothers 🤘🤘🤘

I love it so much and I have all the respect in the world for him but it is a talent matched by many others. The intense complexity of his machine like feet is developed over about 5 years of drumming. After a long effort full journey to achieve this, once you have it, all you can do moving forward is get better so there is a large handful of people who aquire his talent and even go beyond. But this large community does not diminish joey jordison, in fact they all still look up to him as there drumming god or just as a different style that was 100% him that they can use bits and peaces from

I know you're looking at metal bands, but there is a drummer out in this world that you need to see. Now this isn't a metal band but they're the hardest rocking maids you'll ever see. Yes I said maids. This is Band-Maid, five Japanese women that rock harder than most other bands now. Akane Hirose is the drummer. She's so good that Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin wanted to meet her after a concert. The song Freedom is her drum solo to shame other drummers. The live video from February of 2020 is what you want to see. Just give it a shot, you won't regret it. And if you do, you can blame me. 😁😁
