Regardless of the backstory, I find the bulky PAL PS1 cases to be much cooler than NTSC’s regular thin CD cases. It gave PS1 games their own identity.

Alien game wasn't required early days, boot swap was a thing. Use a spring unde the lid of the ps1 to always kep the lid open, but also fake the effect the lid was closed.
Wait for the splash screen PS1 boot screen to load, disc then stops spinning and replace with a backup version cd-r.
