I will try to put this into words. I spent two years of my life as a environmental activist and during that time I lived high up in an ancient redwood tree. For two years, my friends were the trees and the animals and I would have died if a logger came to cut down those trees. That was the deal. Sigur ros is my favorite band and they always will be. I just discovered this song after 20 years with this band as a part of my life. I listen and loved it but the moment it connected with my soul was at the Los Angeles History of natural history. They have this exhibit in a large, dark room with scenes of animal models encased in glass. The animals are all modern (bear, walrus’, dear, lions) and staged in scenes of their natural environments. As I walked from scene to scene, I experienced each while listening to this song on repeated over and over again. In that moment, the music seemed to open up a part of my soul that I’d forgotten about for a long time. It was a place where I felt one with all of nature and they accepted me In gratitude as their friend from the protection I attempted to bring. It was the most peaceful, sincere and loving embrace and tears just started pouring down my face. What a beautiful thing.
I think this is one of my favourite videos on youtube. I watched Sigur Ros live in 2022, mind blowing show. When they weren't playing, the room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Thanks for posting this.
After all these years owning the untitled () album, I never knew this song existed on an alternate version of (), my first time hearing this was at their brixton gig in November 2022, and if it wasn't for that backdrop of those birds on a wire, which were so memorable to the music, I probably would never have found this song after the gig at all, but what an incredible song, should be on every version of ()!!
actually this song was a B-side to Untitled #1 aka "Vaka" but ended up on the remastered ( ) album to celebrate 20 years of ( ) But yes; it's so beautiful
