Stede's life story is a great illustration for the saying “The beauty of their women and the taste of their food make brits the best sailors in the world.”
I noticed a trend with historical figures which is that whenever they get married, the wife is often a catalyst for decisions that place them in the storybooks.
Man O' War was a term used for pretty much any seagoing vessel outfitted for combat, a warship, if you will. Not just the big 3-decked galleons with hundreds of cannons.
Aww mate! I've been waiting for you to react to this! And here I thought I'm gonna be bored this morning. Gotta get a cup of coffee and some chips for this
Black Beard strikes me as the most honest and pacifist pirate. He always used intimidation to avoid harm and seemed to have a relatively proper code of conduct
There's actually a show that's loosely based on Stede Bonnet's misadventures at sea called Our Flag Means Death, it's very good and makes Stede a lovable goofball of sorts, so if you like his story you should definetly check it out, especially since it hasn't been renewed for it's 3 and final season and if more pople watch it there will be a higher chance that it will.
I was just watching "our flag means death" when this video popped up. The timing couldn't be better, I get to remind myself again that the real Stede Bonnet was actually more incompetent than the show depicts, also he wasn't actually gay or in a relationship with blackbeard.

Nothing drives a man to adventure as hard as a terrible person for a wife
My pirate knowledge comes from Pirates of the Caribbean, AC IV: Black Flag, and Black Sails.
This is my favorite Internet historian's video!!! Yarrrrr!!!
37:58 I went and checked the front door, that damm knocking sounded so real in headphones.

Actually, they were specifically five decked ships with dozens of cannons on either side.
I’ve got a cross section book about them
@@ALJ9000 The meaning changed multiple times throughout history. During carribean piracy, Man O' War meant a warship.
But one thing was very true, it was a stupid decision to attack it.

Aside from when he randomly shoots members of his own crew for a laugh
Yess I needed an internet historian reaction for some reason
