23:01 Fun story about Captain Benjamin Hornigold: once, he and his crew attacked a ship, demanded the crew hand over all their hats, and then left everyone and the cargo untouched. Turns out Hornigold and his crew had thrown all their hats into the ocean while drunk the night before and raided the first ship they saw for new ones.
Love how Namu turned away and closed her eyes when the Quarter Master died. Also pirates are still a thing. Every so often you might hear about Somali pirates and then trying to steal from those big ships transporting iPhones and stuff. There was a movie I remember hearing about some dude who was saved after some Somali pirates took his ship. There's also a few videos telling the story of a girl saved by Marines after some pirates kidnapped her and held her for ransom. If you want a good video that goes into why pirating isn't as big anymore then I'd recommend The Fat Electrician's video on "America dismantles Pirate nations". It's a really good video on the American Navy being founded to stop pirates and involves a group of 10 Marines taking over Northern Africa. It could be a whole movie in itself with all the effort that they put into it.
I think, she just doesn't like to see gore and blood. She looked away at several other occasions too, for example when Blackbeard was killed. Adorable either way.
Coastal NC man here, lots of piracy actually happened here to such an extent Blackbeard actually died off the coast here and allegedly hid his horde of spoils in Kill Devil Hills in the Outer Banks which has a nickname of "Graveyard of the Atlantic"
Yes, there are still pirates today. It's basically just armed robbery on the ocean. There's one time where pirates tried attacking the coastguard and found out they got a lot more guns.
This video was great! Thanks for reacting to it Namu! Edit: and to answer your question, yes. There are still pirates today. Though they aren’t white anymore.
10:25 Actually I have resumed dreams, I've sometimes even taken advantage of the fact that I now knew it was a dream, like if I had a nightmare I would like have a rewind button on hand to try out different things so it technically wasn't a nightmare anymore, stuff like that
This was really fun to watch! :D i hope Namu watch "Man in cave" from internet historian at some point, i feel like its gonna be a frustrating watch for her at times but it is a really interesting video
There are pirates operating today, and there likely will be as long as we are navigating large bodies of water as a species. It's much rarer nowadays though, usually along impoverished coasts, like the Somalian pirates. It's a bit more difficult in modern times, considering naval vessels today can blow a target the size of a rowboat out of the water with a single gun at 20km. And most naval vessels regardless of size can do at least 30 knots in fair seas, not much on the water is outrunning them.
So true.. with the dream.. and i think its even worse when you do find the thing or watch the thing you wanted and you are like ooh nice i found it/saw it so its good and all it will be there or ill remember it whatever but you wake up and its literally gone ;_; cant even remember..
i just found this precious thing she looks and sounds like she would fit in my hand and fall asleep resting on the top of my head please tell me her lore size because she sounds so small
Glad you liked it and weren't spooked by the video length. The longer the video the better quality it is, applies to almost all IH videos. Pirates are still a thing, mostly around Africa, but it's not the traditional "Arrr" types on large sailing boats. It's more like bandits in small motorboats with machine guns. Would next recommender either Fall of 76 followed by Engoodening of the No Man's Sky if you want a video game focus, or Tales From The Varus (2 parts) if you want more life events history.
Pirates do still very much exist today but instead of old Schooners and flintlock pistols, they have speedboats and machine guns. I can’t name any specific groups but I know there are some around Somalia. They ambush ships, kill the men on board and steal merchandise as well as the ships themselves.
The Gentleman Pirate is fine cinema.
Real kino
