deminybs got to meet them several times! Got a picture with Mikael and my family outside a club in Austin we talked for about 20 min. It was super cool.
Seen them 11 times and they were amazing everything. Mikael Akerfeldt is funny as hell! He loves to joke with the audience and asks for song request.. The most memorable was when a fan brought him a Big Mac while the show was on and he sat down onstage and ate it... the band just improvised a song while ate. He then took out his wallet and paid the fan back..... really cool. Not a band that you can "pit" to, tho!
I'm so lucky..Opeth have played the same venue in my city every tour since i discovered them 15 years ago... 10 mins walk fromn my home. Never missed them and they have never let me down. One of the greatest live acts i've ever seen.
i have seen opeth several times, but never saw anything involving a big mac. i did see them on halloween once and a fan dressed up in a chicken suit and mikael called him up on stage for some interplay for a few minutes. then he dared him to stage dive. when the dude was hesitant, mikael said, "what's the matter? are you chicken?" so the chicken jumped off, but accidentally unplugged mikael's guitar from the amp. when they went to play the next song mikael noticed what had happened and calmly pointed out to the crowd and said, "fuck you, chicken." everyone was laughing their asses off.
I’m not super familiar with Opeth but I like them. Fun metal. Sophisticated music and easily can put me in another realm. These 2 songs were excellent; my 1st time hearing these. I’ll check out these songs again. I also enjoy the layers, time signature changes, transitions and different moods, along with the expert musicianship. Very well said; it made me appreciate the music that much more.
Saw them live 6 time and they were amazing every night. Opeth is a big blend of everything I love in music. Emotions, atmosphere, heaviness, technical from time to time but never to the point where it get tasteless. Their music brings images in my head and there are a lot of details in every songs. No other band quite like them
I've been to 3 Opeth concerts. The first time I went I was tearing up from the epic-ness and I was just getting waves of goosebumps from the back of my neck to my arms and legs. They played at the Riviera Theatre in Chicago. I remember them playing Porcelain Heart, Baying of the Hounds, Harlequin Forest, Ghost of Perdition, and I'm not sure but I think they also played Benighted. This was round 2011 or something. Then the second one I went to was at a different venue, also in Chicago, but it didn't give me the same orgasmic experience because the balcony we were seated at would vibrate like hell and it interfered with the experience. They played with Mastadon I think. Then the third one I went to was fucking awesome they played with Katatonia and I fell in love with Katatonia. They played some Heritage Album songs and I was fucking blown awaaay, the feelings were rich. People may disagree with me about Heritage, but I think it's in a League of it's own as a masterpiece. You need an ear for it; might as well be a different band.
i've seen them a couple times with mastodon. was that the tour when ghost opened? also saw them with katatonia on halloween. but my favorite opeth concert was when they played with enslaved! i was right in front of ice dale when enslaved was on and then martin during opeth.
I saw them 5 times. The first time in 2009 they opened for Dream Theater and I went with my father as I was just 14 years old. It blew me away and influenced me as a musician until now. Last time I saw them in November 2019 and that was literally the best concert in my life. Some moments brought me to tears... will never forget that experience.
Opeth is the most consistant band I know. I love every genre of music, from classical to jazz, from country to metal. They're the most consistant band. EVERY SINGLE SONG. From every single album. All worth a listen. At this point you should do album reactions lol. FOr your next reaction, I would advise you to listen to: - The Moor - Deliverence - Ghost of Perdition - The Drapery Falls
It's funny because I was thinking the same thing today while listening to Opeth. It's pretty rare to find a band that is consistant like that. Not a single «bad» song. From good to incredible all the time.
Yo I saw Opeth in Toronto twice and both were of the most enriching experiences of my life. These guys not only write the most interesting songs of the modern age, but they perform them better than the recordings!
I really liked when you brought up how Opeth can take you on a journey and creates these atmospheres. It’s almost like you can be taken to a different place. Really good video man! Enjoyed jamming it with you. Shout out to Martin Lopez and that smooooth drumming of his too
Like you said, Opeth's music just takes you away. During my university years I used to nap listening to Opeth. Even though the music is heavy as hell it just takes you away on a journey. I guess you could do some old-school Opeth next. Debut album maybe: Opeth - The Twilight Is My Robe
What a good reaction man!! I have some suggestions of opeth songs: for something heavy - Deliverance some of their newer stuff ( without growls) - Eternal rains will come
Went to an Opeth concert this February, and wow do they deliver. Went and saw them at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. They blow you away with the studio version, then they hit you with the same quality in their live version and it oozes perfection.
I have seen Opeth live 3 times now and its always been an awesome experience. Between the increidible live musical performance and Mikael's stage banter, definitely on my list of favourite artists of seen live.
I got to see Opeth three times when I was in College. One they played with Porcupine Tree and another Devin Townsend opened. As you can imagine, those were truly awesome nights. They are incredible live. And they really play well off each other, it's not like the musicians are just playing the part assigned to them. They are a cohesive unit in which each member just instinctively knows what the others are are thinking and feeling.
the first time i heard the grand conjuration i did not fully appreciate it . . . now it's one of my 2 favorite opeth songs, along with blackwater park.
DT is the most overrated prog band I know. Meanwhile Opeth keeps their integrity of compositions being a new classic, DT still uses strong old heavy and prog influences. Construction of Opeth's songs are mind blowing... DT barely a revelation of what prog can do! Try Haken, Igorrr, Native Construct or Leprous. DT is big in US, not so much around the world - at least not anymore.
Pete Grusky I do not like the last two DT albums. To explain it would take way to long. Ive listened Haken. The Mountain, Affinity, and Virus are all really good. There were only a few songs from Vector that I liked. The other bands mentioned, I’ve only heard a song or two. I’m one of those that only listen to a couple of albums a year. If I like the album, I listen until I almost get burned out. I’m usually behind.
Oh hell yeah 😎 Shout out to Trey!!! and dammit so used to hearing the next song from the album haha . Oh and I'd recommend "strange brew" by opeth, no harsh vocals but amazing still 12:38 drinking Michelob amber and doing dabs 😎 here for the ride brother
I cant believe sometimes that at 50 years old, I first started listening to this group when I was just 29. Time flies. I havent really listened to them since Watershed. I tried Heritage for a bit, but it wasnt the Opeth I knew. Im sure that they have done great things starting with Heritage, but the Opeth that I love and know ended with Watershed.
I saw them on the Watershed tour. To say they are an amazing live band is an understatement. Watch the Roundhouse Tapes or Live at Red Rock. I still get chills even though I've seen both about a hundred times!
Opeth is so good that they should have them on every nations TV news every knight! Just so peaple dont die without hering this grate composition masterpieces!
Amazing band. They have been my absolute favourites since I was 15. It took me a little while to come around to the new prog-direction as I always knew them as a pure metal bands. The albums post-ghost are very different, apart from Watershed, but they are all very good in their own unique right. I strongly recommend listening to The River, Eternal Rains will come, Era, Lines in my Hand, A Fleeting Glance and Will I Wisp for a good sample of their new sound and direction.
Åkerfeldt's sound is so freaking unique. I don't know how he does it. Like, it's quite unconventional, but it always sounds "Opeth". That even goes for his scoring of that recent Netflix series "Clark", it sounds unmistakably "Opeth" (or rather, "Åkerfeldt") ... I'm fairly well oriented in music theory and everything, multi-instrumentalist for some 20 years, and I know exactly what he is doing, analyzing it in retrospect. What I don't know is how he gets these musical ideas, whether it's Opeth songs or as we've seen recently, television series scores. They're all so incoherent, yet definitely Åkerfeldt. PS I do believe Åkerfeldt claimed to be completely clueless about music theory. Clearly he isn't, but perhaps he's one of those guys that have a good grasp of it intuitively, without knowing the "lingo".
Hope you try some of their other side: Windowpane, Face of Melinda, Benighted, To Bid a Farewell, or Isolation Years. It is a delight to see you enjoying their music seen them in concert 4 times and the live performance is as good as the albums in my experiences.
I just grabbed a fresh double digit hazy IPA (Avery Brewing). I really enjoy your Jam sessions T. My Opeth concert was awesome. They didn’t play anything heavy though. This was during the Heritage tour.
