The Mega Man X Legacy Collection puts it best with the individual achievement names for defeating Sigma in each game. X1 - “It’s Over” X2 - “It’s Actually Over” X3 - “It’s Over… Right?” X4 - “It’s Definitely Over” X5 - “Alright, It’s Over!” X6 - “I’m Sure It’s Over This Time” X7 - “It Has To Be Over Now” X8 - “It’s Over, Once And For All” Even Capcom knows how much they overused Sigma.
I liked that with every defeat he seemed even more corrupted, but yeah it gets tiring to see him try again and again and again with almost no change to the formula
@@SinCity2100 well x6 wasn’t planned ahead of time and x7 was a bit more but the control system messed it up. It’s less a fault on sigma more on the development team. Long story truly short if your playing a megaman game the result will always be the hero’s win the end.
To be fair, sigma seems to actually be worth megaman's time. No disrespect to wily but he's usually all talk until he's defeated then he turns into a coward. Sigma keeps that same cocky attitude
Or if they at least chose a different face after mmx2 so by the time they reveal its sigma you would actually be surprised then have his second form actually look like sigma, like in mmx3 they should have just let doppler be the final villain then have him make a new body for sigma that would transfer over to mmx4 but with a different look it would just be like a shell then it breaks after the first stage of the fight and it reveals sigma's original face, then in mmx5 do the same thing with another body so youre wondering if is him again or not then at the last stage of the fight just whip out the giant sigma bot made by dr wily, and just leave gate as the main villain in mmx6
With X8, it appeared they finally realized that while they could get away with Wily nearly always being behind something bad, however, it did not translate as well with Sigma. So Sigma technically perished for good in X8. Even if he still existed in virus form, he can do jack squat against the new generation of reploids and is completely useless against carbons when it comes to infections. If X9 ever was made, it's likely that Lumine controlling Axel's body would be one of the threats instead.
@@rockk9753 actually funny thing, even though the matter of was needed to defeat him, he was so evil he ended up corrupting the mother elf which allowed vile to use it to take care of the world, even in defeat sigma the menace
You know honestly i always felt kind of bad for Sigma, He seems to fall into the category of a Tragic Villain since it really wasn't His fault that He went rogue/turned evil and became a Maverick, it was His first fight with Zero where He was severely injured and infected with the Maverick Virus that set the madness into motion through no fault of His own, honestly a part of me always wished He could've been cured and eventually became a Maverick Hunter again helping X and Zero against a new threat since He was never inherently bad to begin with, just a victim of circumstance, i personally liked the fact that He appears in every Megaman X game, accentuating the fact that Sigma has as many lives as Agent Smith from The Matrix Lol
I hope evil sigma is just new soul born from original sigma and maverick virus fused together and took control of his body, and the original sigma already died honorably as hero
If you ask me, even if the series ended with X5 Sigma would have overstayed his welcome. X2 and X3 could have worked without Sigma. Dr.Wily works because he is goofy and until he creates Zero, not that threatening at all. But Sigma? He is the commander of the Mavericks. That being said, the zombie Sigma thing in X6 could have worked if he was made an optional bonus boss, with the heroes going "Oh shet Gate wanted to revive Sigma"
Better yet, have Sigma manipulating the events of X2 and X3 from the shadows, with him not being directly confronted. And then in X4, he trounces X and Zero so much they are forced to prioritize protecting innocent lives (like Iris, for example) and fleeing the Final Weapon instead of defeating him. This would set up the Final Weapon being used again by Sigma later on for his last stand.
Disagree, considering how well written and threatening Sigma was, to make him only show up in *3* games imo wouldn't really well write his character, you gotta give it time to mellow out by expanding the story and see what Sigma truly is capable of
@@lordx7013 right especially with how evil they make him in every single game appearance the way he test both acts and zero how we uses them against each even knowing the Maverick Hunter so much he was confident they were going to protect the innocent from the virus, knowing that they themselves would get corrupted and laughs it off
About that, it would probably backfire as X1 established that he can just use another body, so having X2 and 3 without him would probably leave fans with an abandoned cliffhanger until the Playstation era.
Sigma could work in Mega Man X if the series had more main villains for X to fight. Make MMX2 and 3 with new villains, then bring Sigma back for 4 and 5. That's how I would've done it.
Better yet; have Sigma kick X and Zero’s asses in X4, where they prioritize saving the lives of others (namely Iris) over defeating Sigma, leaving players on the edge of their seats.
I agree that Sigma shouldn't have been the main villain in every game, I think he worked best as a leader or founder of a revolution - When he died, many more would follow his ideals and continue to fight the war for his cause. I would have rewritten the X series sort of like : X1 - Mostly the same as the current game. Sigma is the main villain and X defeats him. However, at the end of the game, instead of saying he'll come back in a new body, Sigma admits while he won't survive this battle, he has many followers ready to follow his cause and that the war has only just begun. X2 - I would have this game trick the player into hinting many times that Sigma would be resurrected, thanks to Serges who clearly says he wants to rebuild Sigma. Throughout the game, you'd keep thinking Sigma was the mastermind, but it turns out, one of the X-Hunters, Agile, had sabotaged the plan and wanted Sigma's new battle body for himself, after feeling angry that their supposed leader was destroyed by X. I would also feature Dr Doppler working on a cure to the virus in X2. Sigma never appears in X2 even though his battle body is seen (but Agile occupies it). X3 - I would connect Doppler being a close-friend to Dr Cain (I prefer that Cain didn't die in X1) and have Doppler struggle between his humanity and the Maverick Virus. I would make the story revolve that Doppler discovered Zero's lair while studying a cure to the Maverick Virus but was infected over time by studying the blueprints in that lair (Dr Wily's old lair). The infected Doppler reasons that after Doppler cured all Mavericks, humanity still terrorized Mavericks and treated them as inferior beings, causing him to modify the cure into an infecting agent. I would have also established the Repliforce by this game and perhaps Zero-Iris bond. Maybe Doppler could have manipulated Zero and X's relationship, after realising the true potential of Zero and beginning their strained relationship to their ultimate showdown in X5. Doppler, when defeated might show signs of remorse after his Maverick program fades and sacrifices himself to save X and Zero from his exploding base. Once again, Sigma is not mentioned in this game but inferred as a viral code. X4 - Have the humans lose their patience with the reploids after three bloody wars and start a war against the Repliforce after a final provocation was started. This is where Sigma may have been activated, sending the sleeper agent Double and Magma Dragoon to intensify and set fake evidence such as pinning the Repliforce on fake attacks on the city. This is to drive a wedge between X, Zero, and all factions in-between. Then there would be mistrust, and X and Zero would begin to view justice in polarized views, one seeking peace but the other seeking violence as their original programming takes over them. At the end of the game, I would have the final boss be "X-Kai", Dr Wily's original prototype for a superior Mega Man and then in the credits reveal that Sigma had returned for a "final confrontation after meeting with the Doctor". X5 - The ultimate showdown - Sigma would have his final stand against humanity after communicating with the long lost Dr Wily as a sentient program. Dr Wily and Sigma would fully take control of Zero by infecting the Earth with the Sigma virus and crash the Eurasia satelite. Sigma would make some kind of monologue about how everything has to come to an end and states that only one of you will survive - Refering to X and Zero. After the death of Iris, Zero becomes unhinged and loses his sense of self. Eventually, the conflict would result in Zero legitmately dying (none of that I hid myself and repaired myself) and being sealed for hundreds of years for Megaman Zero series. Sigma would truly be destroyed and perhaps even act like his pre-Maverick days, possibly regreting his decision. Or that he gloats that watching your best friend die is satisfying if he genuinely identifies with the virus. Dr Wily's legacy would also fade into history. You could then continue from X6 with the Nightmare Zero phenomena haunting X's mind and then explore the Red Alert from X7 with Axl etc. Or you could keep with Inafune's decision of X1 to X5 and wrap it up with Zero's death and X fighting in his memory to the Megaman Zero series.
Yeah but Redips was no different. His ideals matched Sigma to. Redips thought Humans and old Reploids held back evolution. Also the fact that Redips had a copy chip inside of him. Which made him Sigma.
I think the main reason why he always returns is because he takes the role of a Lucifer figure. The Reason being his fall from grace via the virus, superiority complex to humans and how much the megaman series pulls from Christianity.
The only other characters who come back aside from Zero, Vile (who can be seen as a Lilith figure due to his early fall into evil) and quite possibly (hopefully) Iris (and Colonel! Even if he kinda didn’t deserve to return after X’s story) pretty much return as the mindless hordes of the damned, only appearing to attack X and Zero one last time before they are cast into the flames again.
Ertem Kiziltan You're right Sigma embodies the dark side of reploids and he is the master mind behind they're corruption like how Satan corrupts humans in a similar fashion. He is robo Satan or a president from hell.
See, the Zero series had the right idea. There was a new threat in each game, with the main, overarching villain only stepping down from his throne to fight you at the VERY END of the series. Not to mention Zero needed to sacrifice himself once and for all just to put an end to him. Weil >>>> Sigma
Might've agreed if not for the fact that Wile is overshadowed by every other villain in the Zero series. I like how he has a hand in manipulating just about everything from Zero 2 and onwards from the shadows, but I think he suffers from the exact opposite of Sigma's problem.
@@davidgn40 Did Weil really overshadow every villain ? There's Copy X that receives alot of fan support even than Weil and Omega themselves. Now then Elpizo took most of the spotlight in Zero 2. Overshadowed ? more like awaiting.
@@SinCity2100 That makes me consider something. It is said that the Game Boy version of Mega Man 2 had Dr Wily time travel to a peaceful future to corrupt the original Mega Man and use him to defeat the one in the present. What if another Mega Man X game has that time travel thing send Wily to 210X and have him corrupt Reploids, making X and Zero spring to action? (I read on MMKB)
All hail the Maverick Devil King (Irregular Maou), Sigma (Shiguma)! The strongest MegaMan villain among of all the MegaMan villains from all MegaMan series!
If they ever remake MHX series, here's what they should do. Sigma died in MHX1, X-Hunters are the Main Villains in MHX2 and the final battle would be A combination of All three hunters. Vile be the villain in MHX3, and the final boss, with Dr. Doppler helping you to defeat him. In MHX4, General be the main villain. MHX5 would be the game where Sigma is seen again, and for the last time, and would never be seen again, In MHX6, Isoc be the final boss and in MHX7, Dynamo, who disappeared in X6, and stored some nightmare, corrupt Red Alert, and become the main antagonist. In MHX8, the robot you defeated was an impersonator, and Lumine reveals that they all have become Sigma.
@@johannliebert2870 I know that X series wouldn't be X series without Sigma but If I have to chose between Nostalgia and Quality, I would chose Quality so role of Sigma should be reduced.

I think x2 and 3 shouldn't have had sigma show up. You could have him manipulating everything from the shadows but never have a direct conflict with him. Then in X4, *boom* , Sigma shows up at the end in his grim reaper look Like dude, just imagine.
Exactly. Combined X-Hunters as the final boss for X2. Vile as the final boss for X3. Doppler ends up falling into an abyss as X and Zero try to save him. In the post-credits, we see Doppler return, then a hooded figure appears and impales him for treachery and failure.
Sigma after X5 should have stayed dead the fact that they kept reusing him again after that game ruined the character. Sigma's arc was finished in a satisfying way in X5. If they wanted to continue the x series they should have had created a new antagonist instead of rehashing sigma where he's more like a cartoon villain even wily is a better villain than sigma is post X5.
@@SinCity2100 2003 Shredder handled this really well, as seen in “The Shredder Strikes Back”, which is how I feel he should have been handled in X4; an unstoppable force that changes the priorities of the heroes.
I kinda agree but the zero series made new villains and that worked out well. But for the X series they just won't make a new villain for that game. Expect for command mission where they finally gave us a new bad guy.
I wish that Sigma's final form in X5 was some sort of combination of Sigma and Wily, since Wily apparently gave him that new body. Like a robo-Wily or something As for X6, I love the fact that Sigma has been drenched into insanity and has basically become the essence of revenge itself and not the normal Sigma we knew. I wish X7 and X8 kept his insanity rather than making him go back to "normal"
That would have been a good idea in X5, instead of just making him Giant Sigma and that's it.. As for X6, insane Sigma was a cool idea, except his 1st and 2nd form was a joke, and his dialogue is so funny.. I really didn't understand why they brought him back, the main villain was Gate, and bringing Sigma back just because Tradition like Dr Wily, that was really stupid..
@@SinCity2100 Gate was a good new villain (except his boss fight sucked ass) I think instead of Gate finding Zero's core, it should have been Sigma's core, but using the Zero Virus to manipulate Gate so that way Sigma's return wouldn't have felt shoe-horned How does Gate have Zero's core if Zero was able to repair himself back to normal?
@@MelancholyJoker19 it was not zero's core that gate used - he found a piece of the colony that was infected with zero's virus back in x5. gate wasn't particularly manipulated in x6 - he went insane, but his motives were there before he got infected by the remains of the colony, as shown in the flashback scenes and the intro.
@@MelancholyJoker19 it's a great battle, in my opinion - it's one of the only fights that aren't merely pattern based in the series, and it makes for a great challenge. i never understood why people hate that fight - games like battletoads feature diversions from the main game formula that are way, way harder.
I will say, I had alot of hope in Lumine being a phenomenal replacement villain to Sigma. He is more psychotic, even more condescending and cruel than Sigma, but he does it with class and grace, which to me, are the most menacing of villains.
Junko Enoshima manages to be more intimidating than him, and that’s because she doesn’t directly get involved in UDG and V3, and isn’t the main villain in any way for DR3.
There tends to be an issue that only appears when you re-use villains. Eventually you have to explain why the hard-fought victory from last game didn't end it once and for all. Sometimes the explanation is simply "doesn't matter" like most mainline Mario games. Bowser is the villain and just there. There isn't that much of a story so also not really a need to give a reason for why last time didn't remove him from the equation permanently. But Mega Man X DOES try to have a story, so that means you get an issue when a game says "and that's the last of him", but you keep wanting to use him for the next game. Eventually it just becomes "Hello again, it's the 2nd Wednesday of the month, so here I am to fight you, X"
Imagine if Capcom create a idea where Sigma comes back in different body (controlling the reploid or the Elfs from Mega Man Zero) in each 100 (or 200) years kinda like with the Saint Seiya franchise did with the villain Hades, where the mortal (note: It has to be a pure hearted person) is conviced by Pandora and becomes Hades (which happened to Andromeda Shun (before it become scrapped in the Hades Saga) and Alone).
Mega man X 6 story could be a lot better than zero never resurrected. But keep Nightmare Zero was simply Virus created by Gate. Sigma never shouldn't have body. Simply used gate body. Instead doing lame gate fight the Sigma Virus take over Gate body and begin change his DNA trying created new body. That should better way to explain is Zombie form. Then Gate forgot to complete the body
Honestly, the issue is lack of refinement and it feeling like the status quo doesn't change from game to game, even tho it really should. Let's go game by game for how to handle this, because the building blocks exist, but fail to be utilized correctly. -X1: The one with the least amount of stuff gone sideways, but that's expected for a first game. I gotta say tho, I really prefer the context and backstory he gets in the Day of Sigma-OVA instead of having to wait for 4 more games to get it and then it's just "lol, we was good and then he was bad". I wouldn't take the OVA 1:1 into my theoretical "Fixed X-series" because I'm not too fond of getting rid of Cain already, he's kinda relevant as a background-piece for X2, but the thing where Sigma is a great individual pulled onto a dark path of war by his own ideals of potential being realized...it's just good stuff. It's just more conceptually interessting to have the virus only causing him to become more ruthless, with his actual alignment-change and new goals being purely a result of his own judgement. The series already has it as a factor that diffrent reploids have a diffrent amount of change upon getting infected. -X2: May as well stay the same, except leave Sigma still-dead for now. No reason to give him more Ls this early. -X3: This would actually be a cornerstone of this potential rewrite. Have virus-infected Doppler actually be the villain and reduce Sigma to a plot-cameo of "he wanted to prepare for Sigma's return" with maybe countless replica-bodies in the stage background or sth. And then at the end after Doppler gets back to his senses, he actually just cures the first outbreak of the virus completely and then selfdestructs his base with him and the Sigma-materials alongside it. -X4: Sigma finally managed to revive, but he's exceptionally weak because he's barely back(Think X6, but more stable) and the virus has no major presence to back him up anymore. He's not the one to start or even influence the conflict(because that would be stupid and destroy any potential gray morality. *looks at original game*), but he'd still be the final boss because he would try to take over the final weapon for his own goals. Heck, even the onesided dialogue at the start of the game could still be left intact barely modified, it would actually improve the thematic atmosphere of the plot for it to remain there...because well, he'd literally be right in a scenario where he doesn't cause anything and loyal reploids would still be considered traitors and hunted down for simply wanting to think for themselves.(Oh, also, rework the event of Zero being recovered to not include Sigma's face-scars, X causing them in Day of Sigma is imo cooler, since it's a permanent marker of them being enemies, similar to the virus being a permanent connection between him and Zero's past) -X5: Make him stay in the shadows and keep his influence to him sending out people to delay the maverick hunters until the Crash succeeds or is prevented. Staying low-key would be in his interest this time and the existing plot of the game of making a virus-bomb works wonderfully with what I already changed with X3, more intensity to overrun any safety the world may have developed since then. -X6: What needs to be changed here has nothing to do with his appearance in my eyes, moving on.(Also yes, I continue past X5. Not like Zero onwards is flawless and calling original intentions is a kek when Zero 1 already got a last-minute rewrite that fundamentally changes the entire point of the X-series and misses the intent of what it built up to. Dat Copy-X.) -X7: Straight up delete this game from the discussion, there is nothing to salvage here, Sigma being here sux. If you need this game to introduce Axl, make Wily the doctor, but this version of the big bossman needs to go. -X8: Change it to where it's not even "really" sigma, but rather whatever scraps with minimal memories of his past the next gen-copy bots managed to recover. The rationale could easily be that Reploids already naturally become less stable if they are revived and then destroyed again and Gate pulling him back in an incomplete state only for him to get obliterated once more just just did done it, to where his DNA-soul became mere remnants that could only result in a semi-functional but ultimately empty shell. Sigma in X8 already looks like it is his last stand, so may as well do this instead of going the route of "lol, Siggy back again", which cheapens the effect of the actual true villain of the game. No idea what to do with the Xtreme-games, my creativity regarding them ran out about as fast as the creativity the devs had when they made them. But anyhow, yeah, this would reduce the times he's fought and beaten to 5, with actual consequence and keeping importance to his weaker fights and only 2.5 revivals. Also much more conservative storypresence, instead of him being like "I'll see you next sunday!"
That was an awesome and fucking funny video about the sad decline of Sigma. May he rest in peace/pieces. Now let's scrap a potential X9 for an intermediary Elf Wars game with the superior lore (and villains) from the forth coming Zero games. Also, *lol* at the epic ending with the most heiniously bad Sigma voice actor. >_

@@SinCity2100 Probably won't be too frequent (likely less than the once a week that HAK did, unless they prove to be quite short to record), but I'll link whenever I have something, that cool?
In my head, X1-X6 is the Canon. Sure, X6 sucks ass in a lot of aspects, but when it comes to Sigma, in X5 he put all his chips on the table and literally expelled most of his power to cause serious damage to the Earth, and killed millions doing so. He also had the ultimate body that Dr. Wily probably created for him in some reploid form of his with a copy of his brain downloaded into it. Then, he's defeated. The last of his power was in his two Physical Maverick bodies, so I would assume he used 90% of his power spreading the virus, trying to corrupt Zero and causing major widespread damage. Now comes X6. Only stupid thing about X6 is Zero coming back. They shouldn't have done that. Sigma being the final boss is fitting, though, b/c although he was rebuilt, he's now a pathetic shell of his former self, and him being easy could be purposeful to the story that, although he can still technically come back, he's just a pathetic bitch now, and always will be from this point on. To me, this creates a morality issue. Did Sigma win? He succeeded in killing millions and causing damage to Earth so widespread that it'll probably take hundreds of years to reverse the damage, but he's no longer a major threat of any kind. To me, Gate built him b/c of his legacy, b/c he was always thought of as Maverick #1, but that isn't the case anymore. So, he's been defeated, but at what cost? Bringing him back in X7 and X8 is fucking stupid, b/c it eradicates this moral dilemma that could've served as the final send off of the series (at least the part that involves him). They're excuse that he died on the moon so he can't come back is fucking retarded, b/c in X4 he died on a space station, so how tf did he come back after that? Makes no sense. Anyway, that's just my take on the whole thing.
I think a better explanation for Sigma's final defeat in X8 would be the whole deal with the next-gen reploids being immune to infection. Just spread that immunity to the others, and properly explain _why_ they're immune. (Much as I love X8, it does have some holes in the plot...)
Since Sigma is the main villain in X Dive, meaning he literally went to the multiverse of MegaMan and conquered all of em. So at this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if Sigma himself will be the true final boss for MegaMan 12, MegaMan X9, MegaMan Zero 5, MegaMan ZX3, MegaMan Legends 3, MegaMan Battle Network 7 and MegaMan Starforce 4. Heck, even MegaMan Xover game if they ever decided to make it in the future. Which I honestly feel hype and happy about it. Lol 😂
@@runza123 Ah dude MegaMan 12 shouldn't have Sigma as a final boss. Zero should be the final boss since would make sense. ZX3 should still be Model W. Because I don't see Sigma coming back. Since the Mother Elf Erased him. X9 should be Sigma since would make more sense. Megaman Battle Network 7 yeah and Megaman Exe should be Megaman Exe X.
@@MortalSoul13 Considering he was the main villain in the huge crossover Archie comics, I wouldn’t be surprised if they decided to bring him into the Classic MegaMan series as a surprise. Basically a homage to the final battle between MegaMan, Sonic and Sigma in the Archie Comics. This could also be the opportunity to introduce the golden armor for MegaMan as well. If we had Lumine for being someone else besides than Sigma as the true final boss in MMX8, why not use the same fashion in the Classic MegaMan series where Dr. Wily as the penultimate boss, and Sigma as the true final boss? The same fashion as Sigma and Lumine? MMX9… oh well, he’ll be back anyways. No surprise. For MMZ5, due to the release of MegaMan Zero and ZX Legacy Collection, knowing CAPCOM, they could retcon the ending of MMZ4 where we saw Zero’s helmet, but instead it could be Omega’s helmet. Bringing Sigma into MMZ series as the true final boss could lead to ZX3 storyline for having Model Sigma. We already had Model W. So why not bringing something new? Especially Model Sigma? Even Master Thomas himself hinted about the immortal Reploid data, which Sigma pretty much is immortal himself. Model Sigma would definitely be a great addition to the ZX series. Sigma EXE should definitely be the new biggest baddie in MegaMan Battle Network 7. Vile EXE, Dynamo EXE, Epsilon EXE and Colonel Redips EXE should come along to be Sigma’s subordinates. As for MegaMan Starforce 4, Sigma could appear somewhat like the amalgamation of Darth Sidious, Darth Maul and Darth Vader version of MegaMan series in terms of character design. If Sigma appears in MegaMan Legends 3 as the main antagonist, I can literally imagine something like this. An old dark priest humanoid looking man, Gairouh, the leader of the cult Carbons who worship to a “God” and follow the desires and will of Sigma, in order to receive the essence of Sigma which turns them into a new much powerful type of Aberrant Unit (Mavericks). Gonna be like Dark Souls/Bloodborne lore-ish mix into it. It got me thinking that the Reaverbot eyes were actually inspired by Sigma’s eyes of his Skull Head during his final showdown in X5 ending. There’s a possible connection between Sigma and the Reaverbots that have yet to be revealed. Sigma is arguably the most marketable villain in the MegaMan franchise due to the fact that he was one of the main villain in Marvel VS Capcom Infinite and the main antagonist in Archie Comics and now X Dive. I wonder what’s next. Lol
@@runza123 Tbh, I like that there is no Model Sigma, it makes clear that Sigma is so long forgotten by the time the Livemetals were created that he just wasn't in the plan. The villain of ZX is basically the logical succession of Sigma's ideals too, so putting the actual guy into the story would be redundant as heck. I also don't know how he would logically factor into a MMZ5, since the story of that game would HAVE to be about Ciel and a potential assistant creating the metals, there is no other story that there is still left to be told in that era, unless you randomly make something nonsensical up. Legends is...well, I would personally rather have Wily pop up again if we are going to include any villain that missed 2 entire eras at that point. Sigma's fate is accounted for, he just got deleted for good. But WIly's multiple reploid incarnations just fled the scene and were never seen again, which is a major lorehook to be used.
It's my opinion that X8 Sigma is his best incarnation (after the original), not just because they show how degraded he's become, but also because he is ultimately replaced by the true villain. Sigma might have been more compelling if he wasn't always the "man behind the man", if other villains had more agency like Lumine.

@@thepawchoe2749 The difference between the original virus and the Sigma Virus, is that the original virus was meant to fix Zero's issues with being a violent, out of control robot. It was also meant to take over other robots. The Sigma Virus was born when the Virus tried to take over Sigma. Sigma was built with anti-viral measures, but that meant when the virus met him, instead of the virus simply controlling him like any other viral reploid, Sigma -became- the virus. Sigma Virus = Virus with the Mind of Sigma. It's also curious that the Sigma Virus isn't a simple computer program, it can manifest in the real world. He's more like living eletromagnetic energy. Essentially, the first Cyber Elf. Notice that the virus was only truly deleted through the Mother Elf.
misinformed. x5 was a finale only according to inafune - NOBODY else at development team was asked and x5 devteam consisted of quite a lot of people who weren't even there during x4. all inafune wanted is "make x5 feel like a finale", he literally told that to the devteam and that's why x5 feels so finale - it also feels like shit, because nothing was explained about how zero even got to zero series after he literally died, most characters are written poorly in x5 and lifesaver is a waste of a character, but i am going offtopic here. x6 team and capcom weren't asked about anything, either - but here's where you're wrong once again. zero didn't "hide himself and repair himself" - that was a horrendous mistranslation. the actual thing he tells is that he had to wait while his self-repair systems patched up, but it's revealed if you visit the light capsule as zero in weapon center, that zero actually doesn't know who exactly actually repaired him, and neither does light - that was tied into dr.isoc, a... very obvious reincarnation of wily, even shown to use the same voice telling zero that "YOU'RE THE STRONGEST ROBOT!" - the whole shtick was meant to explain how zero even went into the zero series, as shown by zero's ending in x6 directly tying into zero series. what's better - an ending that actually ties into zero series or "zero dies and then he somehow gets revived anyway lol". oh wait, but the zero series was directed by inafune, and inafune can do no wrong! *he* can tell the x2 devteam that, i quote, "letting zero die would be lame, wouldn't it?", *he* can just revive zero in the zero series after he "died" in x5, but no no no, how dare the x6 developers bring him back and make the transition from x to zero series make sense! disgusting! about sigma himself: "he was brought back as the main villain" incorrect - what was done is something x5 failed to do. why was x5 sigma's finale? he had perfectly fine mind even before dying. he is a virus, he survived curing in x3, he survived a cataclysm in x5, why did he just die? oh, "his virus stretched so thin that he's gone", that *totally* makes sense. oh, what happened to wily in x5 after all that buildup? dunno, he just got remembered by zero before death, so uhhh. and yet when x6 does an actual sendoff to wily, showing him proud of his own creation before leaving the world for good, that's bad! bad! inafune-san didn't tell to make this, so it's bad! and the sigma part is once again better than x5 - sigma was meant to slowly degrade in x6 - he only killed gate because gate was literally beaten to death by the hunters. he has gate's gem on his forehead, he wasn't properly restored and his mind is degrading - all he can say is gibberish - and in the end, no matter if you're playing on a retranslation, jp original or even the horrendous american version, x6 does something that x5 never could (due to x5 being rushed, but nobody acknowledges that because X6 BAD!!!!) - sigma is turned into a joke. he's no longer a threat, hunters easily say that if he will come back, they'll beat the shit out of him again, and then they all just forget about sigma entirely and think about how they would restore the world, with that being their main focus - with alia even mentioning making something that is suspiciously similar in description to the mother elf/dark elf from the zero series. nothing was even mentioned like that in x5, nothing was tied into zero series, and yet how dare x6 happen and actually make sense! why can't inafune randomly tell the x5 team to make a finale, leave that halfassed finale as is and make x the bad guy, because inafune's still pissed off that CAPCOM didn't let him make his baby boy zero the main character and he hates X with a passion. oh, and take a wild guess - gate is actually carried out of the laboratory, just purely out of respect for him - his ideals challenged the hunters and while his actions are inexcusable, he had a point and his motives were there for a reason. i'd go into why gate is great, but i'll leave that for later - i might do another comment about this, but it's offtopic right now. and seriously? sigma in x6 had a way too easy fight? ok, sure, it's not like x1 sigma worked in the same pattern all the time, it's not like wolf sigma can be cheesed extremely easily and all of his attacks have a delay, it's not like x2 sigma was pathetically easy, it's not like x4 sigma has most of his attacks be extremely simple while the only dangerous attack can be avoided by either walljumping or exploiting the way it's activated... how dare x6 sigma have exploits! but x6 is too hard, too hard, now let's go play the great x1, the totally unexploitable and not overly easy game! x6 bad amirite???? why give a game that has some of the most depth and well done systems in the entire x series a chance when we can just go play x4's sets of straight lines and degraded upgrades, because the only games that deserve respect are x1 and x4, others suck!!!!! "x8 sigma died for real" not. the whole thing with x8 as it seems is that it tries to do the x6 thing where sigma is made into a joke, where sigma doesn't even believe he was weakened - but the thing is that there's a reason why lumine isn't killed by sigma there. that's because lumine *is* sigma - sure, not literally sigma, but essentially agreeing with sigma on *everything* in terms of ideals. that's the whole thing with lumine - he's the new sigma, not a new villain. the copy chips (aside from axl) all had dozens of reploid data used for them, one of which was sigma, and so, slowly that influences new gen reploids to... basically just become sigma. agree with him in ideals, methods, extermination of old gens and humanity. sure, sigma might have died for this - but does it really matter? all the 8 bosses in x8 get new dialogues after you beat 4 bosses out of the list - and while the dialogues before that can be interesting and unique, they all just start spouting the same shit after beating 4 bosses - old gen reploids are scum, build a new world, sigma is our master... it's the exact same things lumine says, except without "sigma is our master" - they all slowly become the same, and that same is sigma. so while gate had his own ideals and motives and was an actually unique character, being respected even after his death, lumine being a "new villain" would have merely changed around the bossfights a bit. the story would have been the exact same - because that's what lumine's purpose was. i like quite a lot of things about lumine - his bossfights are both great and the second one feels like a easier version of a bullet hell bossfight, his music themes are well composed, his visual design and expressions are great and the lucifer references are usually clever - but his purpose was not to be a "new villain" - he was meant to be a setup for a new sigma. maybe he would have been killed off in x9, we will never know, x8 sold beyond terribly and we will never see what will happen because CAPCOM wants to shove out gachas. in conclusion - i believe what you said is a load of bullshit. i respect the attempt to clear things out, but a lot of this is misinformed and either doesn't even give a try to certain games *or* is based on terribly inaccurate US translations or public misconceptions. and if someone feels like this is too much for a comment - if this was a video, would you really care? i don't have a good microphone right now, and i am thinking about making a few videos about games i believe deserve a chance (x6 in particular i really like) and explaining how i get through them, how to play them overall and why i believe they're underrated. okay, that was a bit shillish, but whatever. Inafune's word is really optional, you are correct on him not being this mastermind who can do no wrong. However, I don't agree on the original idea of Zero 1 being a mistake and I don't say that because I hate X(Which I don't, for the record). I also don't think that X8 benefits from this lore-implication, it's just continuing the same tired thing for another 1 or 2 games.
@@lpfan4491 I don't think the original idea for Zero 1 was particularly bad, but I don't think it would have worked with X5, unless the earlier Zero 1 script was really different from the final game and I don't like the idea of just finishing it with X5.
I dont understand one thing, if he had a different body every time why did he choose the same face every time? Or was the head the only thing that survived every time? Haha
Why not? Its HIS face. Through he could have tried a disguise, that would have been clever. @@SinCity2100 well x6 wasn’t planned ahead of time and x7 was a bit more but the control system messed it up. It’s less a fault on sigma more on the development team. Long story truly short if your playing a megaman game the result will always be the hero’s win the end.

@breadandcircuses8127 Yeah I totally agree, this is further reinforced by the fact that He was obviously shoehorned into the final act of MMX6

Thing is, Sigma gets beaten up so many times that I cannot take him seriously even if the story does
Sigma male rule 235: get your ass kicked 10 times and never learn anything
Bruh he's the first of Reploid there is a reason why X and Zero fear him. They barely walk out alive facing this dude.
Likewise you think after Sigma got his ass destroyed so many times he learn something.
Funniest thing is that it is canonically 10 times (8 games + Xtreme 1 and 2).
He just didn’t have the
Sigma male grind set
What do mean, bro. The Dude is enterally on his grindset.
Sigma could work in Mega Man X if the series had more main villains for X to fight. Make MMX2 and 3 with new villains, then bring Sigma back for 4 and 5. That's how I would've done it.
Maybe even just for 5. (Have him in the shadows for the rest of them, too)
well...sigma never was in Command Mission as the last boss nor a boss
Better yet; have Sigma kick X and Zero’s asses in X4, where they prioritize saving the lives of others (namely Iris) over defeating Sigma, leaving players on the edge of their seats.
Or why don't get rid of Sigma in X2? But in the other X games make it a different villain and developed X character more.
I agree that Sigma shouldn't have been the main villain in every game, I think he worked best as a leader or founder of a revolution - When he died, many more would follow his ideals and continue to fight the war for his cause. I would have rewritten the X series sort of like :
X1 - Mostly the same as the current game.
Yes
I agree
Dr cain didn't die in x1.
At least Megaman X Command Mission showed us what a canon X story could look like without Sigma
I get it, but wouldn't be bad if he comes back every once in a while instead of coming back every game to get his ass kicked...

How many times do we have to teach you this lesson old man?
See, the Zero series had the right idea. There was a new threat in each game, with the main, overarching villain only stepping down from his throne to fight you at the VERY END of the series. Not to mention Zero needed to sacrifice himself once and for all just to put an end to him. Weil >>>> Sigma
Couldn't say it better myself..
And this overarching villain didn’t reveal himself until the third game, even.
Might've agreed if not for the fact that Wile is overshadowed by every other villain in the Zero series.

Such an underrated comment!!
Then Gate forgot to complete the body
maybe it's just because it happened to be one of the first megaman games i played but i have fond memories of x6 when everyone else seems to hate it.

You do have a point Sigma took the screentime of any villain he was using.
Heck, even the onesided dialogue at the start of the game could still be left intact barely modified, it would actually improve the thematic atmosphere of the plot for it to remain there...because well, he'd literally be right in a scenario where he doesn't cause anything and loyal reploids would still be considered traitors and hunted down for simply wanting to think for themselves.(Oh, also, rework the event of Zero being recovered to not include Sigma's face-scars, X causing them in Day of Sigma is imo cooler, since it's a permanent marker of them being enemies, similar to the virus being a permanent connection between him and Zero's past)
-X5: Make him stay in the shadows and keep his influence to him sending out people to delay the maverick hunters until the Crash succeeds or is prevented.
Dat Copy-X.)
-X7: Straight up delete this game from the discussion, there is nothing to salvage here, Sigma being here sux.
X5 or X3 should've been Sigma's last game in my opinion.

@@kakhome1 Okay :)
Yeah
I think a better explanation for Sigma's final defeat in X8 would be the whole deal with the next-gen reploids being immune to infection. Just spread that immunity to the others, and properly explain _why_ they're immune. (Much as I love X8, it does have some holes in the plot...)
2:33 Yes!
It's the SCREAMING!
i feel like he shouldn't have been in X3, X5 (at least not after he dies and spreads the virus) X6, and finally X7
This guy is truly a megaman villain icon. They truly did him dirty.
I'm happy they did that to Sigma. Got tired of seeing him. We needed new villains for the x series.
Aiieegghh!
I feel Sigma kind of got back on track in X8 being a threatening villain again, but yeah… X6 was just the start of Sigma being a joke.
It's my opinion that X8 Sigma is his best incarnation (after the original), not just because they show how degraded he's become, but also because he is ultimately replaced by the true villain. Sigma might have been more compelling if he wasn't always the "man behind the man", if other villains had more agency like Lumine.
what could've been a really interesting video was killed by horrible "humor' smh.......HOWEVER the comment: "which means he got his ass kicked 10 times, 10 f'ing times" is hilarious! Yoy got some redemption there. rofl!

Yup
@@SinCity2100 so if he got infected when he touched zero, what exactly is the sigma virus if zero is he got it from?
@@thepawchoe2749 sigma is so evil he stole the patent for the virus and named it after himself

*he* can tell the x2 devteam that, i quote, "letting zero die would be lame, wouldn't it?", *he* can just revive zero in the zero series after he "died" in x5, but no no no, how dare the x6 developers bring him back and make the transition from x to zero series make sense! disgusting!
about sigma himself:
"he was brought back as the main villain"
incorrect - what was done is something x5 failed to do. why was x5 sigma's finale? he had perfectly fine mind even before dying. he is a virus, he survived curing in x3, he survived a cataclysm in x5, why did he just die? oh, "his virus stretched so thin that he's gone", that *totally* makes sense. oh, what happened to wily in x5 after all that buildup? dunno, he just got remembered by zero before death, so uhhh. and yet when x6 does an actual sendoff to wily, showing him proud of his own creation before leaving the world for good, that's bad! bad! inafune-san didn't tell to make this, so it's bad! and the sigma part is once again better than x5 - sigma was meant to slowly degrade in x6 - he only killed gate because gate was literally beaten to death by the hunters. he has gate's gem on his forehead, he wasn't properly restored and his mind is degrading - all he can say is gibberish - and in the end, no matter if you're playing on a retranslation, jp original or even the horrendous american version, x6 does something that x5 never could (due to x5 being rushed, but nobody acknowledges that because X6 BAD!!!!) - sigma is turned into a joke. he's no longer a threat, hunters easily say that if he will come back, they'll beat the shit out of him again, and then they all just forget about sigma entirely and think about how they would restore the world, with that being their main focus - with alia even mentioning making something that is suspiciously similar in description to the mother elf/dark elf from the zero series. nothing was even mentioned like that in x5, nothing was tied into zero series, and yet how dare x6 happen and actually make sense! why can't inafune randomly tell the x5 team to make a finale, leave that halfassed finale as is and make x the bad guy, because inafune's still pissed off that CAPCOM didn't let him make his baby boy zero the main character and he hates X with a passion. oh, and take a wild guess - gate is actually carried out of the laboratory, just purely out of respect for him - his ideals challenged the hunters and while his actions are inexcusable, he had a point and his motives were there for a reason. i'd go into why gate is great, but i'll leave that for later - i might do another comment about this, but it's offtopic right now.
and seriously? sigma in x6 had a way too easy fight? ok, sure, it's not like x1 sigma worked in the same pattern all the time, it's not like wolf sigma can be cheesed extremely easily and all of his attacks have a delay, it's not like x2 sigma was pathetically easy, it's not like x4 sigma has most of his attacks be extremely simple while the only dangerous attack can be avoided by either walljumping or exploiting the way it's activated... how dare x6 sigma have exploits! but x6 is too hard, too hard, now let's go play the great x1, the totally unexploitable and not overly easy game! x6 bad amirite???? why give a game that has some of the most depth and well done systems in the entire x series a chance when we can just go play x4's sets of straight lines and degraded upgrades, because the only games that deserve respect are x1 and x4, others suck!!!!!
"x8 sigma died for real"
not.
the whole thing with x8 as it seems is that it tries to do the x6 thing where sigma is made into a joke, where sigma doesn't even believe he was weakened - but the thing is that there's a reason why lumine isn't killed by sigma there. that's because lumine *is* sigma - sure, not literally sigma, but essentially agreeing with sigma on *everything* in terms of ideals. that's the whole thing with lumine - he's the new sigma, not a new villain. the copy chips (aside from axl) all had dozens of reploid data used for them, one of which was sigma, and so, slowly that influences new gen reploids to... basically just become sigma. agree with him in ideals, methods, extermination of old gens and humanity. sure, sigma might have died for this - but does it really matter? all the 8 bosses in x8 get new dialogues after you beat 4 bosses out of the list - and while the dialogues before that can be interesting and unique, they all just start spouting the same shit after beating 4 bosses - old gen reploids are scum, build a new world, sigma is our master... it's the exact same things lumine says, except without "sigma is our master" - they all slowly become the same, and that same is sigma. so while gate had his own ideals and motives and was an actually unique character, being respected even after his death, lumine being a "new villain" would have merely changed around the bossfights a bit. the story would have been the exact same - because that's what lumine's purpose was. i like quite a lot of things about lumine - his bossfights are both great and the second one feels like a easier version of a bullet hell bossfight, his music themes are well composed, his visual design and expressions are great and the lucifer references are usually clever - but his purpose was not to be a "new villain" - he was meant to be a setup for a new sigma. maybe he would have been killed off in x9, we will never know, x8 sold beyond terribly and we will never see what will happen because CAPCOM wants to shove out gachas.
in conclusion - i believe what you said is a load of bullshit. i respect the attempt to clear things out, but a lot of this is misinformed and either doesn't even give a try to certain games *or* is based on terribly inaccurate US translations or public misconceptions.
and if someone feels like this is too much for a comment - if this was a video, would you really care? i don't have a good microphone right now, and i am thinking about making a few videos about games i believe deserve a chance (x6 in particular i really like) and explaining how i get through them, how to play them overall and why i believe they're underrated. okay, that was a bit shillish, but whatever.
