    Flag burning is a hot topic in the United States. There are lots of misconceptions about the legality of flag burning. I address the current legal status of flag burning in the US and whether or not it should be illegal. This video is mostly philosophical and highly controversial. The gameplay is Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

    "Is it illegal?"
    In some places
    "Should it be illegal?"
    No, because it's a piece of cloth and/or paper with a symbol on it. I don't understand what the taboo for it is

    • @Nazrat84

      AMS97PS3 Pride is the reason why violence happens. Burning a flag shouldn't have an effect on a person.

      Nazrat84 It doesn't offend me really, I just think that people who do it are idiots. But I have a serious problem with burning poppies.

      AMS97PS3 No it's not, it's a pattern on a piece of cloth, Flags are mass produced in china and sold internationally. It's not like burning flags from graves or tearing it down from a government building then trying to destroy it.

    • @billylad879
      @billylad879 9 років тому +1

      AMS97PS3 And anyway, a flag represents a country and what it stands for, but burning poppies is being disrespectful to the dead, who fought for freedom and died to make sure people had rights...

      w0joshcbrln0w You do realize that burning flags is no different than what the Nazis did to what they labeled "Jewish" books, right? Or what radical Islamists do. It is a sign of extreme hatred and contempt towards the people who the flag represents to burn a flag. You are saying you want to kill the people the flag represents.

    • @GreyWolfLeaderTW
      @GreyWolfLeaderTW 9 років тому

      Protesting doesn't mean committing an act which means you want to kill the people the flag represents or destroy the government who represent the people, which is what burning a flag means. It means you want to go all nuclear (literally) on the country it represents.

    There is absolutely no reason why flag burning should be illegal. It's one of the many facets of freedom of speech/expression. Maybe instead of getting your panties in a bunch over a piece of cloth, try learning about the atrocities that take place within our government day in, and day out. Maybe you'll understand why some people are angry.

      jordan3802 Yes as some are offended by you questioning their loyalty to an object. I stand behind continuing to allow the Confederate flag to fly in any southern state in which the majority of citizens want it. Now if that pisses someone off then by all means go out and buy a Confederate flag and throw it into your bonfire and roast weenies, its entirely your right to express your dissaproval of it, but its NOT a right or shouldnt be guaranteed to be removed/banned/hidden because it upsets you.

    • @kingdellxValdez
      @kingdellxValdez 9 років тому +1

      memnarch129 the confederate flag should be removed because it is blatantly unconstitutional. The man who designed the confederate flag specifically said it was a symbol for white supremacy over the inferior races of non-white people. That is racism, a hate crime, a crime against humanity, and most importantly in terms of the context of law it is unconstitutional and against the fundamental american values established in the declaration of independence. This is not an opinion. This is a basic fact that it needs to be removed/banned.

    • @memnarch129

      kingdellxValdez And we have our first SJW to respond. If you had responded nicely I would have taken your information and possibly would have agreed. But as any SJW you overblow things and go into a complete emotional meltdown.

    • @GreyWolfLeaderTW
      @GreyWolfLeaderTW 9 років тому

      kingdellxValdez I don't think you know which flag the guy designed, let alone the fact that the flag's design was rejected by the Confederate government and instead adopted by Robert E. Lee's army.
      Secondly, racism is still protected under Freedom of Speech. Racism is not a "crime against humanity". A crime against humanity is the act of killing large numbers of people, not merely thinking that races are better or worse than each other.

      Tahah Shaikh From what I understand ( not american ) it was a flag used by the southern states in the civil war, and those states was fighting FOR slavery. So basicly the flag represents slavery and racism.
      There's also people who say they like the flag for historical purposes, but the main historical content behind it is still racism and slavery, that's all you need to know.

      The Civil War was a war over state sovereignty, not slavery. A racist man killed 9 black people in Charleston. In Facebook pictures, he can be seen baring the confederate flag (something a lot of southerners do as a sign of southern pride, after all, hundreds of thousands of their ancestors died for the cause). Now companies, in an effort to increase liberal appeal, are banning the flag. Which is not a symbol for racism, but is rather used by many racists, seeing as how the south has more racists.

      dickface mcgee you respect it because their are people sacrificing their lives to defend that "flag" everyday! If those people didn't defend that flag then you would be (most likely) be killed and or tortured for even saying anything bad about that flag, you wouldn't be able say anything you want to say, wemon would be treated poorly! My father died for this country and if you don't like it or respect it then get the hell out of it, then you will see really how bad it is in most the other countries!

      dickface mcgee Because most of human history is a long train of abuses by tyrannical kings. You're very lucky to have a country which introduced the idea that governments don't exist to enrich the kings, but to protect the natural rights of the governed.

    I know that my comment is but a speck in a sea of others, but I hope that you see it. I just wanted to say that you are doing a great thing by using the influence that you have to put out content that is truly different from a lot of other peoples. I think that videos like this are thought provoking, as well as, we'll thought out. If only in the sense that your opinions are based in fact and are reasonable, and logical. You have a mind that is more uncommon than not, and I just wanted to let you know that in my insignificant opinion, you are putting it to great use. You are most certainly using you're abilities to benefit society.

    I think we're growing out of this thing being a problem more and more. Adults seem to care but at school where we're given the choice to do the pledge of allegiance, more and more kids are choosing not to do it. Of course, as I'm in high school this could just be some stupid form of student rebellion, but it's a thought nonetheless. Very interesting video Driftor.

    When you said about people banning ideas and things like, it reminded me of a book I read last year called Anthem "Ego". I think it's a good book and made me feel very lucky to not live in a society like the one in that book.

    Hey Driftor. My name is Eric and I am a 21 year old that lives in Phoenix, Arizona. I have been watching your videos for a long time; probably over a year. I never subscribed, commented, or even liked a single one of your videos. Don't take offense to that I am just not that type of person. I think your a great commentator and I love to listen to your view on topics like this. This video struck me pretty close. My whole family has strong roots in the military: my brother, sister, father, his father, and so forth all served our country. I am very much a patriot. I fly a never forget 9/11 flag on my truck and the stars and bars. I have had people roll their windows down and cuss me out because of the flags that I choose to fly. I believe that we need to remember the southern union. I do not fly it for hate, racism, or religious abhorrence. I fly it because if we try to forget the past we will relive it. I am proud of where this country began and love the history of our nation. I will never burn a flag that would never happen; if someone was trying to burn one in front of me I would most likely stop them. Having said that; I could not agree with your stance more. I tell people things like this all the time. The backlash I get is ridiculous. You should hear some of things that people tell me because of these "radical views" I have. I do not know if in the part of the country you live in; if you have speeding cameras or red light cameras? These are a direct result from the government inflicting our privacy. Like you stated in your video that me have maybe one third of the privacy we did before 9/11. I think about it a lot though. What if a law like no flag burning is passed? What happens next. I do not even want to get into the topic about Obamacare because it's hard to believe that the supreme court did not find that unconstitutional. I am glad you posted this video. It is a lot harder to say something like what I am when you have almost one million subscribers. My comment will maybe be seen by a few hundred. Well I hope you see this Driftor; you just earned yourself probably your hardest sub, comment, and like. Congrats. Keep on pushing boundaries I would love to hear more.

    In Boy Scouts we would occasionally have flag burning ceremonies and we would be told only the US Military and Boy Scouts were allowed to burn flags or "retire" flags. We would not burn flags in hatred of the US but it was more just a way to get rid of old ripped and faded flags. That's why it was called "retiring" them. It was a very structured and serious ceremony and there was a speaker who read about the flag and such.

    A good quote for the topic:
    "It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protestor to burn the flag." --- Father Denis Edward O‘Brien, Sergeant, USMC

    Personally there is no place for it.
    Burning the flag should be completely illegal. Most of the time the people doing the flag burning are doing it for the attention and they wouldn't be able to defend their case for doing it intelligently.
    If you dislike the country you live in that much to go ahead and BURN ITS NATIONAL FLAG as protest, no one is stopping you from packing your things and moving on. The reason these people don't do that is because even with the flaws of the this country it's still a pretty good place to live. Sure you may dislike somethings that others don't dislike and the other way around but when it all boils down to it this isn't a bad country to live in.
    You've got a lot of freedoms that not every country has....including the right to burn the flag that represents the country that gives you the freedom to do just that. You want to burn the flag fine,but I do suggest you packing up your things and catching the next flight to another country.
    If you can give a good reason in which you are burning the flag and aren't leaving then I'd love to hear it.

Also, If it's being "broadcast all over America", that just means you have an unpopular opinion. A little unfair to call people with opposing views bigoted, is it not? You assume too much about how people behave. It is unfair for someone to call you a racist idiot if you believe in God, but they can if they want to. Sorry if my comment came off as sarcastic, but it isn't.

I say legalize them all, but I don't know how we would go about integrating their legality into the market-consumer-trade relationship; it would seem like such a large jump politically and economically if they were all made legal at once, but I feel like that is the best end goal.
