Why Your Direct Messaging (DM'ing) Isn't Working

- A common piece of advice from Gary is to direct message or "DM" the top 50 people in your field of interest and offer your services for free in return for exposure, information or expertise. The problem many people have when trying to execute on this is that they get no response. The reason you aren't getting a response is that you are "spamming" them trying to get a sale, instead of actually trying to build a relationship.

It's important to offer value💎. Do you like getting spammed by random people? Neither do the people your messaging. 😅 If you reach out offering true value not everyone will respond but *someone* will!
Rich Gary says NOT to do it, every one listens. Me I sent out 200 today got 29 hits/sales this morning - never follow the pack, most successful people including Gary are telling you after all is said and done
Just like when people say "Invest in ####", every one that will profit has pretty much already invested in it
The problem is offering something for free, they feel there's a catch. Trust and believe, I've been offered free photography before only to learn that you're guilt tripped into buying expensive photos at the end.
And so people are weary because free comes with a catch. So if you can somehow alleviate people's fears, and also, make a specific suggestion, like, right now, my sister needs photography for her online store rebuild and be like, model photography for online clothes, she'd be really interested if that was free.
Or free professional headshots for a scale up. So it's not just free photography, but photography for a specific thing.
And again, if you can help the person see you're genuinely doing it for free, and give a reason, eg. To build experience, testimonials, whatever, maybe that might help.
Most definitely! I had a lady approach me on the street a few years ago, and she said: "Would it be okay if I took some photos of you and your dog?" I said: "Sure". Posed for a minute or so. She insists I see the photos on her camera and shoves her business card in my hand. "You can have the photos for $5 each. Just email me". It left a bad taste in my mouth. I would have been happy with her taking them for free for her own portfolio, but to expect someone to pay up like that... weird.
I don't think I ever replied to one of these spamming DMs in my entire life.

Hey Gary, I love the idea of bringing value first, I just wonder whether right now when people need business urgently, whether people should be more receptive to direct approaches. Obviously not buying service that they don’t need, but at least respecting it??
So intelligent! It all makes sense, people like when someone is genuine to you. Best way to come across as genuine is to, like Gary said, BRING VALUE!!
People forget the one thing that helps you in any business: Connections. Why isn't she connecting with other photographers instead? Why does it have to all be online? Go to places where you know photographers go (famous landmarks in your city, conventions, clubs/groups etc). Ask to tag along or stay in contact. Build friendships and knowledge first. The base of clients comes through building trust and loyalty within a community of professionals who can recommend your services. Specialise in a specific area (family portraits, baby photos, headshots) and use that to be known as the "baby photo lady" that will be recommended by photographers who prefer other disciplines.
I'm on the other side here: I never take up any offers sent to me on the internet via DM and I never will, even if I know you personally. Too many MLM scammers. This advice isn't as sound as it could be.

Hey Gary, I don't bring an exact value per say to you, but I feel like I can give you content for other people, I've been following you for years and I still haven't exactly seen you mention anything about what I've DMed and E-mailed you. I've tried messaging the texting community Gary always provides the number for but it wouldn't work because I'm not from America; is there any other alternative?
Well, majority people started local photography, and they pushed/hustle to go different places, than drone footage etc produced.
"What if" one will start doing it as same? Well answer everybody knows, I mean those who follow Garry.
