The wolves are actually the media. As this relationship was filled with anxiety cuz it was very public as she said. That was the no.1 reason they broke up.
And the woods are the doubt and the fear and anxiety and all the shaky feelings in this relationship.

Her dress being shorter in the last scene than it was during the first is also very important. The wolves had been tearing pieces of her dress (or of herself) or getting snagged on branches all throughout the video, and in the end she found herself with the whole dress again, meaning in the end she was okay.

It's crazy how two people can have different perspectives of the same thing, right? I thought that the dress change was a reference of a old Taylor (dreamy, more romantic, almost like a water painting) coming out of the woods a more simple, strait and sharp version of herself, but with the same colors as before, as if she didn't loose her essence.

The necklace she's throwing away at 5:40 and the lyrics "two airplanes flying" are also a hint at her relationship with Harry Styles, since they both had this necklace with a paper airplane on it. You can also see it in her video clip for "Style". This album is full of references!

Want to point out that the part were she is becoming a tree is very reminiscent of Daphne and Greek imagery of her(especially one famous statue). Her story fits with the idea of trying to escape and the fact that Taylor is trying to be done with the relationship.
Daphne was a nymph and was loved by the god Apollo who pursued her until she grew exhausted and cried out to Gaia for help. The goddess then transformed her into a laurel tree.
Daphne's story is considered very tragic so I I always felt Taylor breaking free in the video plays on the idea that she is not going to end up a tragedy. That instead of hiding she faces the relationship and "finds herself"
Which in all, if there is a connection, the story is handled loosely since Apollo and Dephn's relationship was one sided 😅

I think she also said that it's about feelings of anxiety in a relationship. Because everyone (media etc) is watching their relationship and having an opinion about it. So the are we out of the woods, is like what's going to happen to us next, when will it end. Also, she knew the relationship wasn't going to last, yet she still stayed. Because those relationships can still help you in life. Also, the chorus is repetitive (which is something a lot of critics didn't like) because it is trying to create a feeling of unease and anxiety with the lyrics and sounds.

The song is about Harry Styles. The vines represents rumours or exes or even him and wolves are the media. So she is moving on but media (wolves) are watching her.The media are chasing her and basically stopping her from finding herself (by rumours and hate). She's trying to get away from them by runing but vines are helping wolves to stop her. When she falls thet means she want to avoid the hate but she's making mistakes under pressure. But she's not giving up so she runs. The wolves almost got her so shes on a new way but with the same topic. I think the new place means that she changed into pop singer but wolves are still there, getting into pop make her new haters so thats why there are more of them. When she walks instead of run she's tired of all the drama. The necklace represents Harry( they both wore this necklace when they were dating) mabye that means the reason they broke up becouse of the pressure of media and haters. When she's reaching for it that means she didn't want to breakup but the pressure made her. Now there's nothing left to do but Jump to avoid wolves. That jump represents the change.Sea represents that change that made her fall so hardly and she's trying to go up and cover it. The snow probably means another change and problems. She starts to ralize it (all the changes and problems). The avalanch are her fans. Even though she stopped her fans push her to happines by supporting her. The fan support makes her strong and she can escape. The avalanche hit her and makes her stronger. Now is 2014 she is in the pop world the mud and dirt represents more problems. Branches are getting more and are trying to bring her down. She is asking for help her fans are here to rescue shes stucked in branches. She opens her eyes that means she know what to do . Her fans helped her to escape from hate. Shes now standing at her own. She became more powerful. Now she saw the way to get out all and find herself. All trees and branches are fading away and people are loving her. She lost Harry some of her country fans but at the end of the day she found herself. She lost him but she found herself and somehow that was everything. The repetetive lyrics are about the anxiety she felt she said ,, This song ia about a relationship and you don't know if it's gonna last three more days or for a year.".

Just wanna point this one out :) the woods she's talking about in the song is actually the media that follows her everywhere and the relationship she has is getting hard to handle because they (the media) is watching them everywhere. In the video, it shows how she survived the woods. But if you noticed, the dress she wore as a zombie on the Look What you made me do music video is the same dress, which means she didn't make it out of the woods and the was killed by it (the media and the bad press). Also this OOTW music video is the last video off of the 1989 era and LWYMMD is the first off the reputation era.

Great reaction video! The best part of the video (for me) is that transition at 6:50, when she opens the arms it looks like she's falling from the rock but she actually hasnt, that's mind blowing! I love how you and your gf realised the deep meaning of the video, you made me notice something i hadnt noticed before (even if i watched the video millions of times), that's the woods in the background after she "falls" from the water, it made me understood the story behind the video better...basically she gets into this new relationship (the woods), she is fine at beginning, she remembers all the nice stuff even if there are the wolves she cant see, at some point the set becomes darker, she notices the wolves (insecurities) that are around her and she runs away. Finally she is out of the woods, she is over with this unhealthy relationship and she decided to finish it (the necklace) but right after she realises it's not over for her, she wants it back and she jumps from the rock (to try to catch the necklace) but at some point she finds herself in a wasteland and the woods in the background is the only option (so she's in there again). Finally, after the ice, the fire, the mud and so on she manages to get out of the woods and she's changed, she is not in that toxic relation anymore, she's free, she's different but still herself, more mature but it's still her (she lost him but she found herself), that's the important thing! "somehow it was everything". One the best video EVER! SO SO SO DEEP! Thanks for the reaction. Omg the swifties are usually geniuses when deciding Taylor’s videos but your GF was on POINT! We need her in our squad. Joseph also worked in her music video for Ready for it...? You should give it a watch. It’s really different but I bet if your gf watched it with you she would figure it out like she did with this one. Most people who aren’t fans and don’t know things Taylor has struggled with aren’t able to decode that one.
The thing I love the most about this track is how it grows. And when it reaches its 3:30 minutes, you can realize a back up voice singing "ooo-o-oh", "ooo-o-oh", and OH MY LORD, once you listen to that, there is no turning back. Out of the Woods will be your favorite tune to 1989 album.
When the woods get cleaner and less scary, I took that be a literal version of the line “the monsters turned out to be just trees”.

The repetition in out of the woods signified anxiety, she explains it very well in the Grammy museum performance. But basically, in the video the repetition ends and the chorus ends, and she is out of the woods... but then she’s back into the woods, she thought the worst was over, that she was out of the woods, but she wasn’t.
When she yeets the necklace she still wants to hold on, yet when she’s into the woods again she longs for the peace she had, for the anxiety to end
