Hi Dave, stay in MOVIE modus, stay in Quick Modus ... and now some magic :) Press the "Q" button and then press the "AF" button (which is used to move to the right in Menu/Settings). Now you see all focus marks are active, and you can choose another focus point just by scrolling the wheel near the trigger button. That's all, have fun!
You helped me figure out this after 10+ years. I went to get my old T2i and just tried it out. I always thought it could not do auto-focus while in video mode...
omg thank you, so well explained, half the footage i shot yesterday was blurry, this is so much help, are there more like this ..subscribed, n looking 4 more love it..
@reggiecl You need a "faster" card. Try class 6 or above. I recommend that you get a class 10 card and you will have absolutely no problems. I had this same issue when I bought a class 4 card. Even the continuous shooting (pictures) feels a bit faster with the class 10 card.
Since I had problems with the recommented SanDisk for Hero3 I use the Transcend Premium microSDHC UHS-I Class10 (with SD Adapter) on my 550D and Hero3 now. Even with higher bitrates and 50/60p that one performs just great without any problems yet.
@TheDailyBaker The Canon EOS 550D, announced by Canon on February 8, 2010. It was made available starting February 24, 2010 and to US dealers starting early March. It is known as the EOS Kiss X4 in Japan, and as the EOS Rebel T2i in North America. It continues the entry level digital SLR camera series (known as Rebel line in North America) of Canon, and is currently placed by Canon as the successor model to the EOS 500D, and has been superseded by the EOS 600D (T3i). -Wikipedia
@reggiecl you need a class 6 memory card sdhc, many people like to use sdhc transcend class 6. i personally use transcend 16gb class 10 memory card and i face no problems with video recording. cheers
@objectiveguru Well it still auto focuses when it's recording if you push the shutter button halfway, you just can't use the red dot system to pin point the area that should be in focus, I prefer to do it all manually but it is really, really tough.
@sem2082 I had the same problem. Shot some great videos with my 550D but when I came to edit them, my PC was having none of it. Just wasn't powerful enough. After spending £800 on a 6 core, 8gb RAM monster everything is great.
Hi Dave a quick question with my Canon T2i camera, when I try to shoot in movie modeI after about a minute of shooting may camera stop and a message on the screen says "Movie recording has been stopped automatically". The memory card that I am using comes with the camera when I purchased it. It's a 8GB SanDisk SDHC Card Class 4 have you come across with this problem before? any tips/solution to this problem? thanks
@consultjohan is the 550D a specific upgrade/model of the t2i? I'm not seeing 550d on the ones I'm looking to buy online.. anyone know the difference between the 550d and a t2i EF-S ? I don't want to make the wrong purchase, I tried using google to find the difference and I'm not finding much at all... Thanks in advance!
..... do u recommend any good cards for genral use like 70% photo can the rest video... any budget :P just need good card for good performance ( i use the 550d
@@scottyinspiar918 Likewise I'm curious if either of you found a way to autofocus during video without touching a button. Filming live action (yoga classes) with the camera on a tripod for closeups.
What the heck! You said "For each video"! You're just simulating auto exposure and focus on single shots and not video.... I knew it wouldn't be possible for this camera to autofocus while on video... damn!

Dave, Thanks for sharing. Much appreciated! I love my 550D, and I'm sure you're in love as well :-)
That was cool - thanks for sharing...
@sem2082 try a free trial of Premier Pro with a good graphics card, I bet it will work fine on your machine.
Thaks alot

Thanks Dave !!
