  • Nearly 4 years after the infamous Amtrak 501 derailment, the Point Defiance Bypass has reopened for revenue service, cutting down journey times between Seattle and Portland by around 7 minutes, as opposed to the older route along Puget Sound. Along with the shorter travel time is a newly renovated station in Freighthouse Square in Tacoma, only a couple blocks away from the old station that will be soon be used for Greyhound bus service. Enjoy!

    The only thing to hope for Is for the crash in 2017 to never happen again

      should be less likely now with PTC implemented

    • @docsrailroad

      Probably won't happen with PTC fully enabled and all. I hope the reputation of this route won't go even lower.

    It opened after 4 years! How appropriate! In 2017, I was a foamer!

    Those Chargers on the Cascades service are not attractive, imo.

    Who here doesn't like the Point Defiance Bypass? :/

    • @LoowitRail
      @LoowitRail  2 роки тому +1

      a lot because of the downgrade in scenery, but the “new” station is most certainly an upgrade

      @@LoowitRail I still hope they can still route passenger trains on the original routing should *ANYTHING* happen on the Bypass. :/

      @@jimmyhook4852 they kinda can’t cus the station is disconnected from the mainline, so if there was a problem on the bypass they’d just cancel the trains
