Thank you for you thorough review! At the beginning of your video you mentioned this was not a collectible bike and that later you would explain why this is so. Unfortunately you didn't explain it in the video. For experts this may be an obvious thing but for beginners, like myself, it's still unclear why this bike goes for such an affordable price and it is not a collectible. Thank you!
So many things misunderstood about the 80's-90's initial Japanese 'cruiser' bike offerings. They were initially created to 'take a bite' into the monopoly market that Harley Davidson had found itself in...and other than merely 'copying' Harley, the 'big-3 Japanese Bike' companies didn't have a direction to really go initially. So, if you are familiar with Harley Davidson models, you IMMEDIATELY see the styling of certain models (the Honda Shadow is a blend of the 70's Roadster and the 80's Low Rider). So...front disc brake caliper? 70's Roadster, check. 1100-cc V-twin? Roadster was 1000-cc's, Low Rider was 1200-cc's. split the difference. Low seat height...BUT, there are 'unforseen misses', in the design, too. Harley is 'under-square' engine design (stroke shorter than bore)...leads to LOTS of torque, less HP. Japanese bikes didn't catch that, so they have 'over-square' engines (more HP, less torque)...what does this mean? Faster than Harley on straight-away flats, but Harley 4-speeds can walk off an leave them with ease on curvy mountainous roads...torque is work, and hill-climbing is SERIOUS work! So...design 'origin point'? Harley...it was about the market in the U.S., following Honda's Goldwing plant creation efforts in the U.S. The Shadow (like the V45 and V65 Magnas, Vulcans, Eliminators, Viragos, Intruders, etc from other companies) were going after Harley, not Norton, not Triumph, not BMW...Harley! It wasn't a 'better design', it was a money-making monopoly they were targeting. As for Harley Davidson...they have a 2-year powertrain warranty. Their dealers are rude and hateful. They believe 'MSRP PRICE' is where you START from, not end at, for floor-pricing (a $20,000 USD bike in a Harley showroom will usually cost you $34,000-$37,000 to actually leave with)...Honda said $5,000 and MEANT IT! To this point, they QUICKLY bit into Harley's market...and made Harley decide a path: drop their price, or change their product. Cue the development of new concepts, new models, and new engines. The old 'Shovelhead' Harley's were basically JUNK. The old saying 'if it isn't leaking, it's TRASH' is very true...from plastic oil pumps to frame cracks, to damaged cams and lifters, to perpetual problems with over-heating...Harley has PLENTY of 'bad design' nightmares. Honda, on the otherhand, has EXCEPTONAL engine designs...with few exceptions. The 1100 Shadow does NOT have 'engine design problems'...what the Shadow had was a bad advertisement campaign selling it to 'street bike and super bike customers', when in reality, it was a
My 86 vt1100 will smoke a Harley of similar displacement, unlike newer shadows, the 86 has 9:1 compression and nearly 20 more hp than its younger counterparts, a 5 speed transmission and unlike newer bikes it has a temp guage and a fuel guage. 35 years old and still outperforms bikes less than half its age
Yeah, that one is the beast. More torque and more horsies, another thing it has some interesting gearbox ration where 1 and 2 gears providing good low end and the 4rth one is like cruising with enough reaction at the mid of top end.
The driveshaft splines at both ends should be lubed with 60% moly each time the rear tire comes off,or is changed.

the cam shaft plugs are really no big deal, they're prone to go bad, clean the area and use RTV sylicone, let it cute for 24 hours and boom fixed
So informative thank you!
Always Welcome, Man.
