    I know this thread is old now, but I still found it useful, thank you. Last week I bought a 1996 Honda Shadow American Classic Edition (ACE C2) and will be changing the fluids soon.
    BTW, pretty good video... next time, I suggest showing replacing the engine oil drain plug, and checking the engine oil levels, after running and letting cool down a bit. 👍

    I just bought a '97 shadow spirit 1100 recently and your bike looks identical to mine paint scheme and all. Thanks so much for this video it helps me out a bunch! I absolutely love this bike, it is all the bike I'll ever need.

    I have a Red 1997 Shadow Spirit. I need to do everything you did in your video, to my Bike, I bought my bike last October and it had only 5,984 miles on it and has always been garage kept and I now have 7,750 on it. I just want to make sure and do everything you did in this video to my bike and maintain It to keep it in great shape. It runs like it's brand new out here in Phoenix Az and I get nothing but Compliments anywhere and everywhere I ride it and especially from people who riding Harley's.

    Thanks for the info. I inherited a 1997 shadow from my uncle and it’s the first bike I have owned. I taught myself to ride it and love it. I have no idea what all maintenance my uncle has done on this bike so I’m doing it all. He kept his toys in great shape so I know it was all done routinely but I have put 500 miles on the bike just riding around all over back country roads so now it’s time to service everything including the coolant and belt. Thanks again for the video. I guess I should get a motorcycle Lic eventually. Lol.

      Glad you enjoyed the video and are putting some miles on your bike! As far as maintenance I’d start with the easy stuff first. Our bikes are shaft driven, so no belt to replace. Good luck!

    Just a small tip. Always take the fill plug off first. If you drain it and cannot get the fill plug out afterwards you are screwed. It is a good practice. Ask me how I know.

      @@hunterpinson807 There are a number of reasons. It could be rounded off or stuck or damaged/stripped threads. It is just good practice to take the filler off first because if you drain it and cant fill it, what good is it?

      @tooljst8 2 роки тому

      @@HazeyDayzz420 okay, Bud. I'm trying to be helpful and give some pointers. You are here just to berate people because you got lucky. But to drain it out and then have a stuck fill plug, we'd see how that works out for you. But you won't come back crying...Your luck will run out. And calling people stupid won't get you any sympathy when it happens. I've been working with my hands my whole life. I could take that whole bike apart and reassemble it if I had to.

      the Shadow 1100 isn't much a learning bike as to maintenance since it's shaft driven and valves are hydraulic. Easy to maintain!!

  • @lmdetect

    FYI:
    Final Drive oil is to be checked AND filled while on side stand. By having someone stand the bike up, you are overfilling.
    You seem pretty meticulous about your maintenance, like me, so I thought I'd let you know. :0)

    • @joesanford9400
      @joesanford9400 5 років тому +1

      @@hunterpinson807 was designed to be checked and filled on side stand. Like was previously stated if you stand it up you can overfill...because like you said if it is on side stand it will reach the "overflow" level sooner...if you stand it up it will allow you to put too much oil in.

      Haynes manual for this bike states: support the bike securely in a level position. I read that as off the stand and in the riding position.

      My 1997 Shadow Spirit is Red. It was stored in a Garage for 20+ year's and when I bought it, it only had 5,940 miles on it. It's still Brand New and broken-in. I have 7,275 miles on it now and it's The nicest Shadow Spirit V-Twin 1100cc in Phoenix Az. Seriously...

    What front turn signal relocation kit is on the bike?

    • @rickbecker3277
      @rickbecker3277 4 роки тому

      Beginning in '97, Honda moved the turn signals from the handlebar to the forks themselves. The mounts are rubber to absorb vibration, but weather dries them out and the crack overtime.
      For my 96 i simply bought a pair of fork mounted signals for harley bikes, just had to make sure they were for 41mm forks and ran the wires to the junction under the tank.
      My fork signals have been on for over 15 years and still work great (and look pretty sweet too!)

    also love your exhaust pipes what is the name of those and ofc... again do you think they would fit the 1989? :)

    NEVER, NEVER, NEVER use car engine oil in a bike. It doesn't have the properties and additives to keep the clutch and transmission in service for a long life. Bike engine oil also lubricates the clutch and transmission, but car engine oil is not used in a tranny; and a car clutch is dry, not wet. See Ari Hennings' You Tube videos.
