I'm a lifelong Trekkie, and Sonequa in Discovery did NOT disappoint. She is fantastic and I wish she would be in Star Trek forever.

I’d love to see them together. Mariner is bringing a pizza to the gang and trips into a cryogenic freezer and wakes up a thousand years later. She settles into the future, and is bringing a pizza to Michael and trips & falls into the guardian of forever. The gang doesn’t know she was away.
I'm going to miss Sonequa and Star Trek: Discovery 😢 So wonderful to see these two together even though I am not a fan of Star Trek: Lower Decks but I appreciate her work.
As a Star Trek fan, and a POC, I can't overstate how proud I am of the two of you on your awesome shows. Representation matters and I feel lucky to be a viewer in this current age of Star Trek. Watching this awesome video, I felt like I was hanging out with my 2 sisters in my parents living room! God Bless.

@@therealryan1329 Did you watch the whole video? I think they laid out a pretty reasonable case for representation producing better content. When writers just try to shoehorn representation into a script, it's always garbage. However, when writers who do bring a variety of life experiences to the table get together and write compelling characters, we all win. You can see that with DS9. Sisko and Jake, a black father and son, are a highlight of that show. It works not because they are black, but the fact that they are made their roles that much more powerful, especially during a time in which familial male intimacy was rarely shown in popular culture, much less between a black father and son. Through the lens of Star Trek, the fact that they are black is irrelevant; but in the real world, demonstrating it can make a real difference.

This was such a pleasure to watch. I expected it to be the usual front for the cameras but they actually got in to some really poignant stuff here. As Star Trek fans we are so so lucky to have the talent we have working on these shows and these two are a prime example. Also I think Tawny might just be my favorite human.
I enjoy Lower Decks. The Cerritos crew will always have my favorite Captain. Carol Freeman really cares about her daughter Mariner. (Though she is overbearing, a good family story)
Love these 2 together, honestly if it weren’t for Sonequa, we wouldn’t be seeing so much Star Trek on our screens and Tawny continue to be that crazy, honest, ray of sunshine we’ve come to admire 🖖
Nah. Trek 2009 rebooted the franchise for a new audience and made it viable, not Discovery.
@@Knightfall182 you're definitely wrong. The movies did what the movies did. They were reimagined reboots... This show opened the door for other series made for TV because it exists in the main timeline. The two are unrelated... But nice try
I guess it would be difficult because of the timeline differences and the secret classification of Discovery but it would be cool to see these two interact on Lower Decks

I'm still bummed because a friend of a friend is friends with Tawny and I missed meeting her by about 2 days. I was crushed for days.
I grew up on Nichelle Nichols as Uhura, and the older and wiser I got, the more I longed for her to get more story and more to do. It never quite came to pass. But each in her own way, both of these artists have carried on her legacy and given me so much of what I hoped for. Sometimes more than I could even have asked. And that makes me very happy.
Both of these ladies are representing Trek in the best way! 🖖
They need to do live action Lower Decks movie. Tawny and Jack are so perfect.

Everybody in my family knows Star Trek varcarously through me and I have prescribed episodes of Star Trek for people. Discovery and Lower Decks are the medicine that my nieces will accept.

A totally awesome conversation between Tawny Newsome and Sonequa Martin-Green. As a child watching TOS syndication during the 1970's, the Nichols visibility and legacy have been integral to me growing up to be a useful adult. IMO the Nichols Legacy is secured with these two as they move it forward.
We have said it more than once that Tawny is a comic genius. Her wit and timing is genius.
I love the fact that these two got a chance to sit down together. This is fantastic!

While not "Show running", she is a Writer on the upcoming Star Fleet Academy.
Nice shout out to Michelle. I've loved Senequa since she Trekked down here in ATL for Walking Dead. I was so happy for her to land the lead. And as for Tawny, you all have been fantastic on your show. After season 3, Lower Decks has the basis to be Star Trek Simpsons.

It truly hurt my heart when it was announced this would be the final season of Star Trek: Discovery. I don't think anyone else could have played the role the way Sonequa Martin-Green did.

Watching the pilot episode of this program with two of the Star Trek franchise most important women of color as the guess stars of the show was amazing. Mrs Green and Mrs Newsome who's intelligence and talents were on display when talking not only of Star Trek, but of life, the business of showbiz and the changes of landscape of how showbiz has been run , the cultural changes that have comes and need to continue to move forward with better representation for all involved. The topics that were discussed were very interesting and their replies were very honest and humbling . They did an excellent job of interviewing each other with just enough fan girl in it to make it fun . Go job ladies on this pilot show and may the ones that are coming behind it be as well done .
