Good Lord!! This gave me chills! And reminded me again why Jimmy is one of my all time favorite guitarist. There really is no one like him!! Thank you for taking the time to break down the parts on this. Fantastic job putting this together!! Whew!!!
Your playing is just sensational, thank you. Also serves as a reminder to how unbelievably ground breaking Page was in the early 70s. He was on top of his game and so harmonically inventive.
Wow what a great find! Thanks for doing this. About 10 years ago, I was looking for any video lesson for this song, live or studio. I finally gave up. Now there are a few, and this is by far the best. That's a nice Deluxe in the background, btw. I've got a 1980 natural top Deluxe, but with stock mini buckers. I need to search around your channel to see how the P90/mini hum combo sounds.
No one has ever captured the live sound like you, wow you put many years into this. I am amazed. Even Jimmy could never replicate his live or studio performance. You are very dedicated to the music!
I’ve also been playing this live in a four piece for years. Couldn’t agree more , no such thing as perfect or one way to play it and everytime you listen again you hear something new. Great job as you did it.
Bravo! Fran , I love your honesty of how difficult this was to learn and how you keep picking up new parts , even though you've listened to it a million times..The Genius of Jimmy Page! Joe Bonamassa once said in interview that Page was the most difficult to copy live because he was constantly adding notes ,almost impossible to replicate.. Very well done here!!!!
I am continually impressed by all of your playing! There was one video where you put in a reference to the red-eyed Loch Ness bit, hahah! The "If Jimmy Page played Eminence Front" video was so spot-on to Page's 80's playing that I could only laugh and appreciate. Even the incredible Mr. Jimmy doesn't touch the 80's Page stuff. Really good channel, man!
Oh hell yes. Great job man! It always blows me away, whenever I think of not only how difficult this is to play, but even more so, of the genius mind it took to write it! 🎸
The biggest takeaway, for me, being the percussive rhythm playing and how tightly Bonham locked in with Page. The drum fills perfectly lead Page & the band in and out of the various sections and the cymbal hits punctuate Pagey’s accents with brutal effect. This was such a MF’er live!!!!!
Brilliant effort at such an incredibly difficult song. "Controlled Chaos", as you say, could almost be the subtitle to this amazing track. Well done and thanks - I'll keep plugging away at it.
I don't know where you got the patience or skill to do this, but I for one am eternally grateful. Have learnt some of it already and will pick [no pun intended] away at it from time to time as life permits
Wow this is just fantastic! I got my 12 string electric this summer and this tune being a shining example of what can be done w one, I sought some videos for insights and tips playing it. With your video I found SO much more. This channel kicks ass. Our interests and aesthetics line up almost completely and your sense of humor totally hits the mark with me. Great stuff, keep it coming! In another universe we'd have logged decades of jamming together by now, my animal spirit! Sharing your channel w my music buds for sure.
Fran that was no less than perfect and inspiring ! This is in my top 5 favorite of LZep songs. Always said to myself it is too difficult to learn, but now I may get a little bit, kinda slightly closer ! The only thing that sucks is that I will not attempt to learn it until I get a 12 string electric, because I only do my best when tone and volume is to my liking -which I find to be very synergestic - lol Looks to me like you have a Fender-ish Tele 12 string is that correct ? Thanks for you ripping through the song and taking the time to teach !! Best Wishes, Bill
Totally amazing, excellent Fran! The first time I ever heard the live album and this song (I remember where I was and really stoned) but was hooked for life. By the way, that's my 1977 Les Paul on your right.
Exhibit 1 of really really bad judgment. I picked up the guitar in college and took some lessons. Picked up basics, improved a little bit and was having fun. My friends started a band for fun and decided we’d play a couple of Zep songs for a talent show. Did we pick an easier, fun Zeppelin song to tackle? Ya know, like Communication Breakdown or Rock n Roll? Nope. We decided to try our hand at The Song Remains the Same! Needless to say, it didn’t go so well. Lesson learned: you have to walk before you can run.
Holly shit. Never really realized how freggin awesome the guitar work in The Song Remains The Same was or is. Deffinetely a life long learning experience. Thanks for sharing. 😁👍
This is an outstanding video! I’ve been trying to learn this song, especially the live version. What a complex tune and you nailed it so well! That hybrid picking has been hard for me to get the hang of.
Great breakdown. I've played most of those licks not realizing they apply to this song lol. I got most of them from watching Junior Brown, go figure. The country/blues playing over that frantic drum/bass thing, then the breakdown, OMG they can do no wrong. Oh Jimmy!
Would you consider a private zoom lesson on this ? Of course you’d be compensated there’s a few parts, A bit fast, some of the fingerings hard to make out, but I feel a zoom lesson could be really effective. Let me know what you think. Thanks again for posting this. This is awesome. This is my favorite zeppelin song.
If someone has to be considered to have played electric guitar ever, was Jimmy Page that night at the royal albert hall, i've practicing this one and the live Rain Song, your video helped me a lot :D awesome playing
Great work. Who could've thought up this song, for a rock band no less, but the one and only Jimmy Page? It reminds of the classical composer Percy Grainger, for some reason
A year later and still watching Fran. Love your ending comments. " we did it. Theres a lot there to practice, so you better get started, its going to take a lifetime. " Not to mention that, that guitar is pretty awesome. What model is that? Can't find it anywhere it seems???
Jimmy's creative spark was burning white hot when he composed this one.
Good Lord!! This gave me chills! And reminded me again why Jimmy is one of my all time favorite guitarist. There really is no one like him!! Thank you for taking the time to break down the parts on this. Fantastic job putting this together!! Whew!!!
Thanks!
perfectly played ...a rarity. Blown away by the sheer magnificence of this song and Fran nailing it
🤘🤘appreciate that 🤘🤘
Your playing is just sensational, thank you. Also serves as a reminder to how unbelievably ground breaking Page was in the early 70s. He was on top of his game and so harmonically inventive.
Well done maestro! Just one example of why Page is an all time great
Awesome guitar playing!!! That 12 string sounds amazing!

Right on ! Such a fun song to play. Jimmy always looked like he loved playin it. And looked so cool doing so.
Fukin page really Gifted this world!! And... Excellent Playing !!!

Aint it the truth. Thanks!

Awesome job Fran! Only Jimmy Page could come up with something like this.
So true, Thanks!
Liked your happy face at 3:28 after succeeding most difficult part of the solo :))))
Hahaa. Stakes are high when you’re filming. I’m sure I was happy to not have to start over
Oh hell yes. Great job man!
It always blows me away, whenever I think of not only how difficult this is to play, but even more so, of the genius mind it took to write it! 🎸
An epic of guitar wizardry

This is my favorite cover of my favorite Led Zeppelin song. Awesome playing. Thanks.
This is SPOT ON !!! You've done your homework bigtime!!!
Kudos to you sir.
You killed it!! Will definitely use this as reference for learning it. One of my favorite songs by my favorite band.
👊👊
Always wanted to learn to play every song on that live album .. just like it sounded , live , played live 🤷♂️🐣. 👏 👏 👏
You are amazing. Thanks so much for the detailed lesson and congratulations on nailing an extremely complex song!
I’d call that crop dusted! You nailed it again Fran. Now time to slow it down and get busy learning. Thanks friend.
Thanks!

Bro. That was as perfect as humanly possible. Thanks for breaking this down
Is crazy that page came up with this... you did a fantastic interpretation of it!! Really Great!! I might know... .09%

Just watched this vid again. Damn it!!! Still blown away. I also heard the planes this time around.
Yep there's planes in there, "should we roll it Jimmy?"
Great job! Page was quite the composer.
This is an outstanding video! I’ve been trying to learn this song, especially the live version. What a complex tune and you nailed it so well! That hybrid picking has been hard for me to get the hang of.
Oh man you gotta come on a Zoso show with us !!!
I'd love to, Thanks!
All the muscle memory. You organized the whole thing. Great job

Awesome guitar. 🙂 Awesome video!!! Jimmy should invite you to play it at one of his gigs!!
Wow! Listen to this Eddie.
Great work. Who could've thought up this song, for a rock band no less, but the one and only Jimmy Page? It reminds of the classical composer Percy Grainger, for some reason

Thanks!
I don’t play guitar, but now I wish I did.
There's still time 👊🎸
Nice work
Excellent, just started learning this, great video, thanks for doing this...
Excellent job
Right on, Thanks!
Pretty cool. Props for doing it on the 12 string. I still have to get 1 to do this song amongst others. Some wrong notes and strums but 90%. Good one.
🤘
What amp are u using 4 Zepp?
AWESOME. I utterly loved this, Fran. Now all I need is a twelve string Telecaster (or whatever that is) and I’ll be on my way...
Thanks! Yeah it's hard to spring for an electric 12 string when you know it'll only work in certain spots. But when it does, ooh baby
That was fun.
Fantastic Fran !!!! Good work and Merry Christmas !! Your playing here was a huge gift for me !
Happy holidays! Thanks
A year later and still watching Fran. Love your ending comments.
" we did it. Theres a lot there to practice, so you better get started, its going to take a lifetime. "
Not to mention that, that guitar is pretty awesome. What model is that? Can't find it anywhere it seems???
I forgot about that “we did it”. It’s cool to be reminded of the little things like that. The 12 string is a Nash. They’re out there
@francapitanelli9775 thanks Fran, keep up the excellent work..Achilles??
Good Lord!! U play drums like I do!!
Seriously fucking impressive!!!
Nice
Thanks!
EPIC!
Well done Fran. WOW - going back for thirds. Now my brain is wondering if a Harmonizer pedal could emulate a 12-string?
Thanks Jeff!
Was thinking the same thing lol
Well shit... that blew my mind. Fantastic
Thank you! Fucking awesome. This filled in so many knowledge gaps for me.
Glad you dug it
Man, you are wonderful guitar player! It s amazing that you have to copy live version of tsrts, it must be very very difficult work.
Thanks a lot!
