Hey girls! Good job on sawing that big boy. As a long time sawmiller on band as well as circular headrigs, we encountered this problem often. We used a 30 inch "top saw" with 56" and 60" circle saws. I once sawed an oak that yielded 9, 7x9 cross ties and the jacket lumber! The technique that you used is called "gunbarreling." It's useful for handling oversized logs and used often on "bustle butted" species like cypress. Really enjoy your show. I'm retired, but still love watching lumber being made. God bless!
Great job! So impressed you examine the boards for defects and fix when necessary. Big bos stores certainly don't do that. Hope your customers appreciate your integrity.
Not certain how I came across this but am glad I did. My 91 y.o. father worked in logging camps and his father in lumber yards in Northern Ontario. Will be showing my dad this later today. I know he will enjoy it.
It is fun to watch people who have been working long at a tough task so that they instinctively know how to do it with grace and ease. Rule of thumb is wet lumber like hemlock weighs on the order of 1000 pounds a cubic yard. So I'm calculating each of those 6x6's weighs about 90 pounds. Yet you gals are moving and stacking without visible strain. Total respect.
Boss Man knew the best sawyer in PA. could cut that log on their mill even though technically too big. That's how to put your awesome "brain power" to good use figuring out how to do something like that where others may have given up too quickly, and it takes experience. The Dream Team did it again! Job. Well. Done!
Emerald you are "Rosie the Riveter" of the Log Yard! Salvaging the 6"X6" with shake separation into a 2"X6" rafter size lumber works for me! If you were around in Noah's day he would have made you a foreman I'm thinking. I will likely never saw a huge Hemlock myself, or any log for that matter, but I can say I know someone who has! Awesomeness attribution to both you and Jade for that lesson on the sawmill.
That log was a Herman Melville story about catching a good one. Emm did a strategic observation and kept the mill running with beautiful retail. If Emmy was in the Air Force, she could lead one of the new B-21 Groups. Easy to see Jade leading the F-22 Raptor escort squadrons. These girls are killer chicks. Well Done.
Had a massive hemlock come down in the Loyalsock forest last winter while I was plowing snow on a township road. Thing was so huge that it was all we could do to move it with our trucks even at 10’ lengths. Interesting to see how you cut up such a large log.
Greetings from Old Town Spring Texas. Great videos. Love watching y'all play with them large logs. I worked at a saw mill back in the 80s. Also fell trees for the mill. It was tough work. Great respect to both of you young ladies. Thank you for sharing your videos.
That is one beautiful hemlock log. Love the FOHC 6x's it produced! For non-lumber people, in the softwood realm FOHC = "free of heart center," meaning no pith. It's the equivalent of "vertical grain" in dimensional 4x4, 6x6 etc.... the best, most stable lumber milling result possible. Awesome!
Nice work cutting the log down to 6 by 6 inches. Excellent beams used in post and beam framed barns. You'll soon drive by a barn building and say with pride, those beams are from my families milling work.
I’m always impressed by how you handle the lumber after cutting, they’re obviously very heavy but the efficiency of movement that Jade shows in this video (and I’ve seen it from Emerald in prior ones) shows how professional you all are. A small point, I know, but an important one when you’re doing this everyday.
We called that gun barrel cutting a log when it was to big for the mill. and we did the same thing you did. We ran into that alot with sawing soft maple for grade. I'm going to say 7-8
Remember Guys some of us really enjoy the cutting it would be good if you had a brush system and camera following on the return so we get to see the log reveal it’s beauty.
I would still count the 9th one just because it was a test of skill and ingenuity for both this log and other big logs in the future. That’s a great yield for sure and I learned a new way of cutting maxed out logs on my mill. 👌
Good job EM. Good heavy sluggin today Jade! 👍👍👍
I do not know anything about what you do, but I enjoy watching and maybe learning something. Thank you.
Good job sawing that beast! I like how grandpa stopped by, had a quick look and probably said to himself, "She's got it handled."
Very cool to see the ladies handling their biz in the lumber yard👍
This girl is so confident, and she does know the proper skills, its nice the way she talks, and also very professional, love their lifestyle.

Another great video from Emerald and Jade at Lumber Capital Log Yard.

Great job ladies.
It's probably good enough for Lowes. I went there today and spent 20 minutes sorting to find 4 decent 2 X 4 X 8 pressure treated boards.
Nice comment bud how are you doing and how is the weather conditions over there
Great teamwork getting that log on the mill ladies. Thanks for the video.
I always give a thumbs-up to my favorite gang, the Kerf girls...

Very well done ladies, you make excellent products.
The stop sign technique works well. Great job ladies.👍♥️♥️
Wow, that was a big log!
In the 70+ 80s we milled 60" + diameter logs.
Like the way you did the cutting on that log. Haven't seen that in a while. We called it facet cuts. Like for a stone in a ring. You two are awesome.
Hello Robert how are you doing and how is the weather conditions over there
What a wopper! I have never seen the cutting part of your mill up so high.
Wow that was a nice log. Gotta love Hemlock
Great to see young people with the expertise and skills and willingness to work hard in order to accomplish the tasks that benefit us all.

Wow awesome job ladies
You two girls are growing up to be beautiful strong men! Proud of y’all.
I have recovered the odd shaked piece for a garage door by gluing it back together with WEST epoxy. The 12X10 door has lasted well.
Hello rod how are you doing today
That was a beautiful log!!! Nice work !!!🤠👍
Great explanation and love your shirt.
You almost said one of my favorite saying when getting started. "Enough chitter chatter, let's get at'er" 🤣
That log was huge-mongous! LCLY rocks!
Nicely done!
Great camera work!
That log was a Herman Melville story about catching a good one.

You girls sure get a good work out everyday
Hello from Virginia 🇺🇸 I worked saw mill growing up in the Smoky Mountains I used to cut R,R ties when I was your age 🇺🇸
...will clear cuts be available for cabinetry and finish work? ...
hemlock for cabinetry?

that seemed like a kinda short log for barn beams. maybe 8 foot?
Em and Jade, great job on that huge Hemlock. I wonder how much a 6X6 beam weighs right off the mill? Cool how you trimmed it down.
Hello Rex how are you doing and how is the weather conditions over there
Hard work, great job 😊
I've heard of Wood Nymphs,
but you two are more like Lumber Angels.
Well it still was awesome to see such a big log and you got some beautiful thick poles out of it!
That is an amazing machine.
Never seen a hemlock log that big without shake
Hello Mark how are you doing and how is the weather conditions over there

absolutely! Let Gravity and Leverage be your partners whenever possible and safe!
nice job i even saw a move that I had not thought of on my sawmill
Up north in Wisconsin we call that barreling nice job
Ohhh! THATS how you do it! 😅
Great vid as always!

Cool video!
I liked the guy in the flannel who walked up with his coffee cup when they first started sawing. I know he said, "Yep, that's a big un."
Very nice thanks
❤Great job.
Great quality video , great content , I'm subscribed
Remember Guys some of us really enjoy the cutting it would be good if you had a brush system and camera following on the return so we get to see the log reveal it’s beauty.
That is a great tree to make wooden lacrosse sticks out of

Every time someone SUBSCRIBES OR IF YOU JUST CKECK THUMBS UP. You are helping these young women
That's great!
Cool I've thought about this same technique but have not done it yet
Good job I cut 18 out of 47 hemlock in my back yard 78feet tall just when that blit was starting and before they got damaged as always good video
