    Video about fixing your Climate Control Unit (CCM) fan button. It will also show how to clean the cabin temperature sensor and fan. The car used is XC90, removing the CCM is slightly different on other models but the fix is the same.
    Here is photo of the resistors you should resolder as well:

    PHENOMENAL. My 2007 XC70 would only consistently allow auto fan control - any manual use was "iffy" (usually didn't work). I'd long suspected it was due to the then-new lead-free solder; it took awhile for manufacturers to get the alloy right and any heat cycling would crack the joints (XBox "red ring of death," laptops etc.). I'd hoped to pop the board in my oven to re-flow everything but there was too much non-removable plastic. Used your method and it worked like a charm, in fact, the sketchy looking joints were on the (2) resistors (makes sense since resistors can get hot... careful - they slide when the solder melts!). I'd add the details about key position II and disconnecting/reconnecting the battery as in your other videos.

      This must be the same problem that the radio volume knob has!!

    • @mcardlepm
      @mcardlepm 5 місяців тому +2

      @@zzoinksMight just need a reset or cleaning. When I removed the radio/climate unit (first doing the ignition/battery disconnect sequence) I also did the (maybe apocryphal) extra step of clamping together the disconnected positive and negative battery leads. My radio had randomly been going into “search” when certain presets were pushed; though I did nothing other than that plus electronics cleaner to the radio controls, it now works great.

    Thanks for a very complete video! the fan knob on my 2005 XC90 became non-functional, so I had no manual control and had to run the system in auto mode. I was skeptical, but followed your instructions and the re-soldering did the job! Works like new!

    Thanks for sharing this idea. I did re-solder the chip contacts under the fan knob. It still did not work: every turn of fan knob, it still skips speed level. What worked for me is when I followed up by spraying wd-40 specialist silicone on both sides of the circuit board. I let it dry for about 90 minutes, and it worked. I did disconnect the battery first before I took out the AC control module. And no, I did not have the contact cleaner wd-40 at the time.

    Another thing to maybe check if your having this problem is the coupler that leads to the blower fan, i was about to solder my switch and figured maybe i should test if the fans even getting the signal from the switch and the ground was arcing and melting the coupler for some reason. My guess is the kids blocked the vents and had the fan on full and the motor was possibly getting hot or it just wasn't a good contract. Anyway hope this helps anyone with this issue, maybe a proper diagnosis of the fan vids in order? I found this video to be the best and most detailed so i propose its from you 💪😌

      @HeapsofProjects  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the idea. I have actually seen it before and I can imagine it could be because of a poor connection. If your fan is not working at all there can be many different causes. Easy check if you need to fix the CCM fan knob is that you just press the auto climate button and see it it works then or see if the lights around the knob move when rotating it.

    many years later....had to remove motor (twice) as something in the whole CCM setup isn't working - no fan. Been working my way through fuses, CCM, fan, fan controller resistor, air quality sensor...one thing to note is I have found it is possible to replace the air sensor when you have the fan out. This is worth doing because you should really use a wiper arm puller to remove the wiper arms to get to the sensor from above. If only changing the sensor, sure, this is way less hassle than removing the fan motor. Hella make an air quality sensor for at least half the Volvo stamped one. IMO it is worth replacing this sensor when fan is out because it sometimes messes with the CCM logic. Also replace the CCM bulbs while out, and CAREFULLY clean the cabin air temperature sensor and fan - do not break the wire. If you do, it is possible to obtain correct wire and solder a new one in (search UA-cam), but avoid snapping in first place! I did resolder all the fan speed joints on the rear too. They will dry/break, so you might as well do that too while the whole dash is out!

Clamp the shaft in the vice about 100mm from the CV. Now you should be able to move the CV on the shaft little bit, maybe 1mm or less. You push it towards the vice as far as it goes, get a good punch with at least 12mm diameter or a 1/2in socket extension (not good for the extension tho). Now you put the punch againt the center of the cv so its touching the axle as well but wont actually move the cv away from its position. Now give it a good hit with decent hammer. If it didn't come off you push the cv towards the vice as far it goes and repeat.
