- Bar Rescue has been around for close to a decade now, but fans of the show can’t get enough of Jon Taffer’s expertise at revamping failing bars. There must be something about seeing a bar live up to its potential that touches the human heart.
None of us would want to see our local bar go away, and Taffer’s team of bar rescuers have been constantly finding new and improved ways to give failing bars a facelift.

I take this with a grain of salt. I'm sure there are points of the show that are produced, but the people who lash out are also the people who fought the hardest on his changes. The pirate bar was run by idiots who then came to him again later on asking for help and he said "No" because they disrespected him and burned the stuff he got for him on air. Of course some of these people are going to be unhappy and critical of the work he does. And like bitter bar owners would never lie themselves. FFS. People said the same thing about Chef Ramsey's show "Kitchen Nightmares". But he's also had a lot of success stories from people who would surely debunk the crap the bitter people are spewing. Why not talk to the people who were happy with the job he did? You're more likely to get the true story from the successes than the failures.

First of all tafer is in the prestigious bar hall of fame second his success rate is %98 and has several new York best selling books and your video sounds like it came from some tabloid trash magazine YOU SHUT IT DOWN
The fact only 25% of the bars end up falling after the rescue actually speaks to how good he is. Most are ran by idiots who are already deep in debt and you cant fix stupid. So despite the fact they are mostly ran by idiots 75% end up succeeding
There are literally episodes that show what heppend to those bars who got rescue... Some fails and some mange to pay the bills but this show is real...no matter how they choose or what ever... If you start to say fake stuff about the show because you didnt watched the whole thing.. You 200% miss stuff like those bars who didnt mange to survive and got close

The pirate bar was a complete fiasco. They changed everything back as soon as John left and (not so)amazingly, went right back to their old habits and financial failures.they were oblivious to any suggestions he made for actually turning the place into a profitable business.

Anyone that doubts Jon Taffer’s knowledge of bars and how they work should understand that the TV is just for entertainment. I’ve listened to his seminars and read his book, the guy is as close to genius as you’re gonna get in the business.

Jamie Owns it wasn’t growing on metal though, it’s growing on plastic sheeting that is put in freezers and fridges so they are easy to clean

Every single reality show has elements that are "fake". It's the nature of the beast. Amazing Race, Big Brother, Survivor, The Bachelor, etc are all designed by production for certain outcomes.

Of course a large portion of the bars they're helping are going to close down. They aren't there to help a successful bar, they're trying to turn around failing bars that are in debt.

The two biggest problems in these bars is owners and employees drinking at work, and having a dirty bar/kitchen.
I think it varies from state to state in which it's legal for bar employees to drink on the clock, but regardless, I think drinking on the job has its place... at a bar. Think about it, you have a busy night and you want to have fun with customers. You want to sell more drinks. So long as the drink is paid for, the bartender engages with a customer this way and probably leads to more tips and product sold. It's a good way for customers to "bond" with staff and make them want to spend their time and money there. I personally wouldn't, but if a bartender turned down a drink from someone, they might feel insulted. There's a responsible way to do it IMO.

That pirate bar was an absolute joke! They had a pirate theme bar in the middle of corporate district of town! Taffers idea to turn it into a corporate bar was the right thing to do! They had a prime location, That bar is now closed. because they refused to listen! ! This video is old! I don't care if it's fake, I still love it! It's entertaining!
Yes and no, the corporate thing should have worked, but not with those people, they want to be pirate’s. Don’t change them, change location! In this case both the bar owners (whom came back for a reunion episode) and the producers of the show. They should never have picked them, but hey, it gave good ratings. And the bar owners should have just relocated, instead of going on the show and getting there hopes up for a 15 min fame.

Now if the theme was a pirate tavern serving seafood and ale based beverages sure, but they acted like morons.

Most of these shows take much longer. For instance Extreme Makeover Home edition, has plans drawn up, pulls permits, gets hoa approvals, purchases materials months in advance. They do not take 7 days.
John's show is no different. They have to pull building permits for a lot of the things they do in the make overs. They don't just redo the bar overnight. I can confirm though that some of the owners are right, it's a simple retraining that most of the employees need for the bar to be rescued. Even Throwbacks/ Murpheys was a simple paint and rearrange for the makeover. The rest of it was really the employees not knowing a lot of things. Now they have reverted the name back and brought back the original drink menu, but they know how to pour now
I was in sales for years. A new manager came on board and chewed my a$# out. I stormed out. The next day we met for lunch and he guided me to achievements I never even could imagine. Sometimes you get comfortable and need a kick in the behind.
There’s only like three places that have talked about the show being fake. They were all failures.
I’m convinced that it is the ‘realest’ reality show on the air. I’d be surprised if nothing was ever fudged or distorted, but it is very difficult to find rescued bars that are calling the show fake outside of a handful of infamous failures

That would actually be interesting. There’s a lot of articles that say Ramsey’s restaurants aren’t very good food and service wise. Too bad one show is owned by fox and the other Spike. Otherwise, it would be a good crossover. Two hotheads yelling at each other.

I work at a place that was on this show. The bar was fine and wasn't losing money at all the owner did it for publicity.
I always assumed this show was mostly written because it’s on TV of coarse but those disgusting kitchens, fridges, & freezers take time and real neglect to get as bad as a lot of episodes. That kind of stuff can and does cause sickness and death. Especially to children, elderly & folks with lowered immune systems. I.e cancer patients.
The bars that don’t make it are the ones that don’t do what he tells them.

I was at the 100th episode of TWD @ Greek theater. Jon Taffer was there. I watch, and filmed him and his wife try to go into the hospitality vip. They wouldn’t let him in lol. He got pissed off and started making a scene. He quickly stopped and realized how he looked. I got pictures and filmed it. I was watching walking dead stars come from vip behind stage crossing to hospitality vip area.
There you have it! These restaurants/bars permanently close bc they go back to their own ways and fail. Every time I finish an episode of kitchen nightmares or bar rescue, I search to see if the place is still open, it’s closed permanently. Why? Kitchen nightmares, they blame Gordon Ramsay. For bar rescue, they blame Jon Taffer.
Some light scripting, that’s the worst of it? Bar owners are still in trouble, lives are still being effected, those bars are still nasty beyond belief. The pirate morons couldn’t do anything right and when they were shown what the demographic was still couldn’t understand that a pirate themed bar around corporate buildings made no sense.
As for blaming Jon for their failing bar failing completely after he left, their bar was going down in a fiery inferno before he even got there and people love to blame someone else.

I respect Jon. He's a man that actually seems to care. And as for guarantees about success.....there are none. The old adage applies, if it's to be it's up to me.

What I don't understand is how an alcoholic quits cold turkey. I've known a few and they don't just say no more. It takes months if not years to stop. Go to an al-anon meeting and listen. But on this show alcoholics quit overnight. Amazing.
Fred Davis I've known 2 alcoholics who quit cold turkey. They both died very quickly. Bad idea to suddenly quit any addictive substance without professional medical supervision.
They are required to stay sober while he is there. Some go back to drinking after words.
Schafer's bar and grill and the pirate bar was fucking doomed.

Most reality shows stage some drama and interviews as to make it Interesting for viewers. Very few reality shows if any are 100% real.
The reality is Taffer is an expert, he knows what he is doing and he does rescue bars and the vast majority are able to see and maintain the success. It's one of the better reality shows out there. This video is rather pointless

For example, the bar owner who put up the video where he gave money to that “homeless veteran” and got “Rescued”, yet still closed a month later. Public opinion is everything in their local market, and I think he was done for, even before I finished the episode.

I used to watch Bar Rescue all the time, until the formula became too predictable and boring. Jon Taffer screams at the staff, things get emotional, staff gets trained, then bar changes
I mean yeah it’s going to be a lot of similar predictable stuff because all these failing bars basically have all the same problems and issues. John has 5 days to turn around a bars fortune and to get owners to admit failure and their terrible decisions they have to be chewed out and exposed or else they won’t change. Some owners don’t get as bad of a lashing because they took responsibility and did everything that was asked and ran with it. But most owners refuse to change and make it difficult, plus some of the horrible code violations are very serious and could lead to somebody getting sick or dying and Jon has every right to scream at them about it. But I do get the shows predictability and burn out of rafters yelling though. Can be a lot

Wow, in the span of two days, I've discovered Bar rescue, seen most of the most outrageous stuff, and learned the truth about Jon Taffer and his show, and now the show is ruined for me.
This just seems like a really bad version of Kitchen Nightmares...
The pirate bar failed but they also did nothing the show told them to do they changed the bar and immediately changed it back

It seems to me the only ones who are saying the show is fake is the ones who fail after he leaves, it's not his fault, your bars failed it's your fault because he fixes them for free he comes up with a great concept, he shows them how to run it, how to do the books he shows them everything they need to do instead, these people end up being lazy, they don't want to get off their ass and do any work or they're just idiots, it really makes me mad, because I think he truly does care, this man is fixing your bar free of charge, y'all should be kissing his ass instead of trying to bring him down, which it's not going to work, and it's not every going to work. I absolutely love the show, and I think he's a great person for doing what he's doing. Also, he's helped other countries who has been suffering food shortages and things like that, so we should all be doing something like what he's been doing. But of course, that's not going to happen. You people who want to put him down y'all are the ones who failed at the bar business, and it's your fault, not John's fault, stop trying to bring a good man down, no one's falling for it.
There have only been two or three true success stories from the show, including Moonrunners in North Carolina.
Taffer is a great business man. He gets a cut from each one of the bars that he gives them money that these hole in the wall shit hole drunk holes mostly small town. Taffer gets a cut for fixing the bar back up and. Teaching the staff to how do the general bullshit the bar owner should have taught them or who ever trained em. I think he is a smart man then making money off the show. Dont think its gotta be fake maybe a lil over dramatic lol

I always thought that things in this show were a little too convenient and similar.
“O Face Bar” may have been the biggest bust. John walked out on it because of the owner. The owner would later be arrested & convicted of a sex crime & is now on the sex offender list

Piratez bar is not a good source for valid opinions. Given they wanted Taffer to return a second time, and they wound up closing down anyways. As for success/failures, Taffer can't fix every bar they go to...some owners, like the O face bar people, deserve every bit of contempt they got and more.
All I know about Piratez is what I saw on that show and this vid. I seriously have to ask, WTF was Tapper thinking changing a Pirate themed bar into a Corporate themed bar? Did he really think these people who dress and talk like pirates every day(Owners included), are going to say, "I like this plan, Lets do this"? If they wanted to act like a corporate drone, they could make more money actually being a corporate drone around the corner.
I'm not at all surprised they closed down. With or without Taffer's help, they were doomed in that location. If you want to be a pirate bar, try opening on a beach on a Florida key. But all Taffer did there was speed up the bankruptcy.

If a quarter of the bars failed that would mean 75% were a success. That’s not bad.
Of course the show indulges on the truth, but what got me is the shows repetition of the same failures of owners and his design for the new bars are all the same with no real unique atmosphere left in the bars, it's like sitting in a McDonald's or walmart at his restored bars
Generally, a failing business loses money so losing your home in the process shouldn't be a surprises or redundant.

This is not necessarily true or accurate. The remark about "hired actors, as usual" was particularly off-base. As it happens, I was in what out as Marley's On The Beach, in Oakland Beach, Warwick, RI while it went through a hideous transformation that failed. I mention that I was there because I wasn't alone; I was with the rest of the bikers from the beach, and of the people we didn't know between us, we at least recognized as locals. Taffer delves too much into theme bars that have to be redesigned in a few years, making it more profitable to just sell it at that point. And the names - "Saint Michelle's," named after the owner to create a non-existent tropical island? Please...NOBOD liked the name, and it quickly changed back...
