I always thought the supernatural element was brilliantly implemented in the sopranos - not over the top or in your face, just subtle enough to make you wonder if it’s possible.

"Hell is hot ! That's never been disputed by anybody." - Paulie 'Walnuts' Gualtieri
The Norse may have something to say about that
hes never made it to the last layer, and good cause fighting that boss is a pain
One of his best lines for sure.
The Bible never mentioned anything about hell being hot. It was just an assumption people had because back in the day people used fire as a form of torture and it was the most painful way to die.
One of my favourite Paulie Walnuts moments is in this episode, when he calculates his own sentence in hell, just making up his own variables lol
Remember, it’s purgatory, not hell!
@@stevebrizzle Haha oh yeh, of course! 🤦

I'm giving this thing to Kino for his birthday and I told em, hey fuckstake, they taught you this in school? They are called bawls.
Kino? It’s a frickin’ nickname…his family’s name is Kinorelli 🪦
Notice one small detail from Bevilaqua's execution. Tony pops him first with one close to the chest/heart area. Almost definitely fatal. Then he looks at Pussy, expecting from him to shoot next.
But we can see that Pussy waits just about 5-10 secs tops, before pulling the trigger...
Left me wondering....As if he wanted to make sure the kid died from the first bullet, and that he would be shooting a dead corpse, killed from Tony's gun. Maybe somehow in his twisted two-sided rat-scheme he thought that if tried for that act, he would face lighter charges.
Very allegorical
I’m glad you caught that. Very observant. The sacred and the propane
Happy Birthday man. You should’ve mentioned how when Tony and Pussy kill that guy, Tony is desperately trying to have the kid say that Richie made him shoot Christopher. Tony is looking for any reason to get rid of Richie, but the kid doesn’t put two and two together and says Richie had nothing to do with it.
Definitely agree that’s what he was looking for, but I think he would have killed Matt either way
He also kills him because he can't own up to what he did, he blames everything on Sean, and says "please Ill tell you everything you wanna know" making him a liability for them.
@@joshlindquist5807 Yeah he was trying to get the info then remove matthew from the equation either way. Not that he would've ever let Matthew go for giving up Richie there. But either best show ever lol.
Dude, there's no way the psychic could have cold-read or guessed those details about Paulie's murders. Throwing "poison ivy" is and getting it right would be something like winning the lottery.
I feel like he might have been able to see the poison ivy burns at some point? But it's still impossible that he guessed all that and if he actually knew all these details he would have been smart enough not to talk about it.

The 3 o'clock thing... on one hand, there's the Chekhov's gun theory: if they took time to include this scene, it needs to serve a purpose somehow. On the other hand, Chase never refrained from showing the mundane and absurd moments in life, not everything has to have a deep meaning. Happy birthday my man, be happy and healthy, never go Kinosabe on us!
I beleive imperioli and chase maybe others are sworn to secrecy on what 3 o clock means. Feels like a personal thing between them
I sure don’t think it had anything to do with the angle Tony may have been shot from.
[SPOILERS, MAYBE]
When Tony contemplates killing Paulie on the boat in season 6, the former is sitting at the latter’s “3 o’ clock”. During the final moments of the show, the Members Only jacket guy goes to the restroom, which is exactly at Tony’s right, or “3 o’clock”.
@@nepesilva2284 hmm
There’s already a big theory on what it means. Tony was killed from a 3 o'clock angle
Looking back at this at the end of the show, I always thought that if the “Members Only” guy comes out and kills Tony, he would be at Tony’s 3 o’clock.
Ding ding
But the message was for Tony and Paulie.
Been funny if Christopher got the ‘3 O’clock’,thing wrong. What Christopher’s dad really said to tell Tony and Paulie was..’Tell Tony and Paulie that there cocks..Chrissy even f#cked up in the after life.!

Happy Birthday Kino, here’s a shinebox as your gift.
Wrong movie
Also, a there is maybe a connection to be made, between the Paulie's claim that the hotness of hell has never been disputed and Tony's lamentations about poor Italian workers; Dante describes final circle of hell as a frozen wasteland, so Paulie not knowing Italian literature is kind of similar to Tony imagining himself to be this protector of poor Italian immigrants, the culture is more or less just a facade or a sort of a crutch at this point. This overall theme persist on from the earlier episode, when the crew visited Italy, where the disconnect was even more obvious.

Rewatching the series in 2023 here. The scene where Paulie visits Christopher in the hospital and rattles off the arithmetic for purgatory in order to get to heaven, is just such a great parody of Catholicism. I was raised strict Roman Catholic. Paulie's logic is beautiful.
Catholicism is just a business transaction
The only time Carm was really happy was when Tony gave her expensive gifts, and even then it only lasted for a few minutes.
a real good fucking earner lol
Happy birthday! Love the videos. This episode had one of my favorite Paulie quotes in the entire show:
"Hell is hot, that's never been disputed by anybody!"
I’m watching season two for the first time and this is my favorite episode so far. The dialogue in the the scene in Dr. Melfi’s office was mesmerizing.
Glad you picked this episode as your bday-sode. This one has my favorite scene with Paulie and the Ghost buster guy. Wish they did a little more with this because it had me rolling on the floor.

Heyyyy...first thing is first ....happy birthday!!!
The psychic more than likely knew about the itching from Paulie's girlfriend who probably told him about Paulie's troubled sleep when she introduced his sleeping problem to him.
What made the psychic scene crazy was that, while he did give hints about sonny and then provided the last name, he figured out that he was Paulie’s FIRST hit, and that there were many more ghouls in tow
The psychic scene is legit so fucking funny. Pauli's reactions are gold.
That's 'My Lover's Prayer' by Otis Redding being used intermentally through the episode; especially when Adrianna is shown crying etc.

Love your work man, happy birthday.
Did always think that there was like an aura of the paranormal in the sopranos - chris's 3 o clock thing coming true for tony in the final episode, the whole coma sequence between life and death, Tony's subconscious pre-empting the tony blundetto murder and the whole thing with paulie and the guy in this episode...
That birthday part was jokes man, thanks for the vids been enjoying them

Interesting that Carmella is reading the Holy Bible when she suggests Tony get a vasectomy -- which Catholics believe is gravely sinful.

The guy was a true psychic. Unless he was there, he wouldn't have known about the poison ivy.

Happy birthday Kino. Greetings from Chile 🇨🇱❤️
“You’re only religious when it suits you” is a quote that can apply to many real people today.
It was hard to tell if we were supposed to think the psychic was really capable of that bs, if it was just cold reading, or of it was a hot reading somehow. Oz was great at mixing the surreal and supernatural with excruciating realness and the Sopranos dotted it in a few times too.
The first guy was either a plant (which a lotta "psychics" use to get attendees roped in up front) or hot-reading. An assistant or paperwork (an extremely common tactic that seems extremely obvious yet works on so many people cause who wouldn't wanna believe they could communicate with a dead loved one?) coulda easily included his name and from there it would be easy to get info about his family if it wasn't just told to a fellow attendee while waiting and overheard by a plant/assistant/mic, or included in paperwork filled out beforehand, sometimes weeks before so they don't remember it as well. There's a lotta ways they get info that seems unknowable but came directly from the person they're "reading" or someone they know beforehand. It's such a scummy grift.
Most also go with somethin safe, letters in extremely common names from a particular generation that's both young enough to still be around/remembered and old enough to have plenty of dead folks but not too long ago that there's no real connection. This is why they'll typically only fw demographics they are familiar with, what's common in the US in a particular region is not the same as what's common in Sweden which is different from Japan which is uniquely different from Mexico, etc, etc, etc,. A man Pauly's age would be likely to be a father, especially since the family unit has been such an important part of Italian/Sicilian culture both back in the old country and in the diaspora, but Pauly ain't your average middle aged Mediterranean so he definitely had a miss with "son", then Pauly gave em Pagano, who doesn't know a Charles, and I don't think he said anything about Mikey Palmice's name. Pauly was also quite hostile when he came at em and the grifters usually go for emotional topics cause they throw people off and, unfortunately, many of us have lost people at a time when we weren't on good terms so "anger" and "fear" are not unheard of especially with a hostile mark.
It's not as common anymore but in that region and with a guy of Pauly's age and ancestry it's VERY likely that he knew a "Sonny" cause it was an extremely popular name and nickname. And who hasn't had a run-in with poison ivy? For a city dweller (his accent kinda gives it away) it was almost certainly something that happened playing in a park, a small yard or apartment courtyard, or at somethin like a camp, field trip, church group outing, maybe working, etc, (generally group activities) and happened when they were young which greatly increases the possibility that someone on that trip has died in the decades since. If it was a miss it coulda easily been played off as "Oh, they had poison ivy rashes!" cause again, who doesn't know somebody who has had a run-in with poison ivy!? And even if ya never had it or knew someone who did somehow it coulda been something on TV or whatever, they use these slippery tactics for a reason. And while it's never funny when it's you, seein somebody dying slowly from the itching and almost impossible feat of avoiding scratching can be hilarious especially to a kid.
So it's entirely possible it was only intended to be a cold/hot read and the 1st guy was just a plant. Most psychics have 99% misses and almost no direct hits unless the person gives it to em or they have the info ahead of time by whatever means which is why they keep it vague and can spin off a miss and try and flip it into a hit even if it's way off.
But it's dope that they left it kinda ambiguous even if I really hate these rip-off artists and don't want their scams given validity of any kind. That's part of what I love about the show and shows like Oz and very few others that keep some things as an unknown and are willing to drift slightly into the surreal and fantastical.
Happy Birthday! Your channel is the only channel I have notifications turned on for.
The bathroom at the dinner was to Tony's three o'clock. Tony is a soldier following a code, same with all the souls that greeted Chris in hell. Mikey is taunting them both with the inevitable directions of their demise, just as he's scarring Paulie out of his previously itchy skin.
No, Tony is not a soldier and neither are any of the other characters in the show. Soldiers fight to honor their countries and protect their people. The mafia extorted and bullied hard working Italians to make money for themselves. Just like how the drug cartels make money off the backs of innocent Hispanics and the Crips and Bloods exploit innocent blacks. All gangsters are bullies and cowards.
@@humankinglobetard3000 Simply using the language the show uses to interpret the show. I think it is clear that I am not romanticizing crime at any level of organization.
