Continuing the Stargate tradition, Weir's boyfriend is played by the actor previously a Tollan. Between the three series and the SG-1 movies there's about 70+ actors playing multiple characters.
They did a quite good job in this episode cutting between characters, having them wear different clothes and be in different locations so that continuity was being broken, and be acting a bit out of character, but never showing the audience in a more tangible way that reality was being warped. For example, they never have a character turn their back and have the audience see some shadowy figure, to signal to the audience that something was up. So if one were only watching the episode lightly, you would actually miss a lot of the clues that were being given. That shows a respect for the audience, that the audience is engaged and reasonably sophisticated. As far as the lack of a large crew of SG-1 actors, it's a different series, so SG-1 actors, especially the main actors, are not likely to be walking around in the background in every other episode.
13:25 I LOVE this scene. What even better is the line still works, whenever someone asks me something and the context is even borderline appropriate I use that line “Might as well say ‘bing tiddle-tiddle bong!’” 😂😂😂😂😂
I like to think that in season 3 when harvesting gates for the bridge, they came back and called out “we know the gate activating causes your kind harm, if you wish, we can TAKE the gate away so that you never have to face that again?” This is pending wether the presence of the gate is still required, in which case they can place a barrier in the gate threshold to prevent wormholes opening.
You asked about just parting the sea. I believe the gate was using the aliens as energy to dial. Hence why they couldnt just move the gate. Love the reactions.
When the ancients originally seeded this particlar planet with a Stargate and if they ever explored this planet I'm wondering if they could have detected that the mist are actually lifeforms. This is assuming that the life forms were present when the gate was placed on the planet.
Great season 1 episode. On the rewatch you notice that the characters behave weird, but when you watch it, you just have this feeling that something is off, until the reveal happens. It was awesome to see General Hammond back though.
I do not know what I find more amusing: the fact that women from the Pegasus galaxy also love to power-shop or that John has perfect recollection of shopping malls.
3:32 I think part of what helps is that McKay is such a flawed character. Sure he's a genius but he's also outwardly arrogant, inwardly self doubting, and kind of a coward. There's something about this combination that makes him feel more real and thus makes his successes feel more plausible.
I do not know what I find more amusing: the fact that women from the Pegasus galaxy also love to power-shop or that John has perfect recollection of shopping malls.
The absence of Jack at the SGC might be explained by his relationship with the asgard if they were refitting it with new engines. Or that even as a hallucination he might be more of a spanner in the works than a distraction
Hammond was there because, while O'Neill was in charge of the SGC, he was in charge of Homeworld Security. He was technically Weir's boss as she reported to the President as his associates, not the SGC. As for why he was at the SGC already and was the one welcoming her though, that was part of the tip-off that something was wrong (besides scheduling conflicts with the SG1 cast, who would have been doing an on-location shoot for an episode around that time the SGC scenes were filmed).
@@Ragitsu Well, that one can easily be explained by McKay stepping through before her off screen. If Weir really was the only one to step through, then she should’ve immediately known it wasn’t real. Because how else would McKay be there if he didn’t go through with her?
@@Hawkcam1996 It's still odd - to me - because you'd think everyone (in this case, a pair) would be together when welcomed back to Earth (instead of one or more people immediately running off).
@@Ragitsu Except that happens pretty often. There are regulations when returning to Earth, especially when you’ve been offworld for a long time. McKay could’ve stepped through before her because he was ready before her and immediately went to the infirmary for a checkup.
While I'm sure you've since finished the series already, I couldn't help but find a little irony in Sheppard's Johnny Cash poster and the eventual happenings late in the show
9:50 Hammond did go on to lead "Homeworld Security". which coordinated efforts of the SGC, the spacecraft and Atlantis operations as well as R&D from these projects. It wouldn't be out of the question that he would debrief them I suppose but why wouldn't Jack want a seat at the table if the meeting took place on "his" base?
It could've easily been an unused SG1 storyline but tweaked for SGA. If i had been SG1, O'Neill would've seen dead soldiers, Teal'C would've shared O Neill's reality, Sam would've seen the gibberish science reports and Daniell would've found some irresistible archaeological puzzle. Its still a great episode.
Oh my God I just realized. This episode is like a reskin of that SG-1 episode, uh... the one with the garden and the guys living in a virtual reality because the keeper didn't want them messing up his garden, where Daniel and Jack were stuck reliving very unpleasant memories while Teal'c and Sam were brought in with them because their memories couldn't be read by the machines. It was the mention of Teyla sharing Sheppard's illusion that clued me in.
Yes, quite a few recycled ideas used in this episode. That's not necessarily a knock against the writing - this specific episode works primarily because of how the unreality is subtly signaled to the audience.
@@dondumitru7093 i definitely wasn't saying it was a bad thing.
