When you think of Brazil you might see Christ The Redeemer looking down over the Copacabana, beautiful people enjoying tropical weather, lots of football and the world’s best barbecue. You probably don’t envision a temperate state that’s a mix of European and Latino culture and is rich in waves the length of its incredible coastline. This is Santa Catarina, and its island capital of Florianopolis is not only home to surfing young gun Mateus Herdy, it’s the setting for the latest instalment of No Contest, featuring the 2018 world junior champion himself alongside skateboarding megastar Pedro Barros and an incredible array of homegrown surfing, music and art talent that has to be seen to be believed.
Ashton Goggans and the Stab crew partner up with Herdy as he gives the No Contest viewer the best guided tour in the series’s seven year history, from boat trips to secret spots, to cheering on the local football team and hand painting wetsuits before paddling out.
