Well, on a realism level, it's harder to raise a rail line than a pedestrian path. But also, pedestrian paths that are tunnels are higher crime normally and (irl not in game) discourage walking.

By having a raised station you're actually being environmentally friendly as the approaching trains needs less power to broke, and departing ones gets a free boost. This idea is used in real life on the copenhagen metro stations underground, where the lines is lower than the stations.

Biffa, i was wondering, could you have submerged the train station, so that the tracks would be on the same level as the existing ones but the car park in front of the entrance is just a bit lower?

  • @playtimewithdragonfire

I really love the detail you always put into your cities. At 39 minutes you added a couple paths under the trainstation line. You eliminated the need for the pedestrian overpasses you made. You could raise the tracks to be level all the way across. You could then just add paths under the tracks to provide more walkability. Some of the pedestrian overpass is very steep. - But, there is more than one way to do the same thing.

    • @donalddickerson206
      @donalddickerson206 2 роки тому

To be fair, pedestrian underpasses tend to be higher crime areas than overpasses, so while it's not true in game, IRL, pedestrians may actually prefer the overpass

I think one of the reasons you’re getting so much traffic backing up onto the highway from the upgraded, three-lane roundabout, is that you appear to have not upgraded the one segment that enters the roundabout from that highway off-ramp. I could be wrong, but that is what it looked like as you went around upgrading those segments.

  • @Erichteia
    @Erichteia 2 роки тому +5

Amazing addition! Absolutely love it. Really one of the better places to build a mall and a large commercial district.
I have a few suggestions that would make it even better in my opinion.
As stated elsewhere, I don't really get why you would first let the rail go down only to go up afterwards, then back down and then back up, combined with a rather long and steep (and expensive) pedestrian bridge. Wouldn't it be much more sensible to just keep the rail in the air? You can keep the nice circular details and put the paths on ground level if that would be an issue.
I also think it needs a few more options to go in and out. Maybe a local bridge over the river to the industrial zone and interchange next to it? This would also make it easier to deliver goods to the region.
I would also delete a few of the skyscraper hotels or even impose a high rise ban. They are not the nicest assets (in my opinion) and highrises next to this wonderful large low density area across the highway feels a bit weird.
I personally feel that the interchange can be downsized quite a bit. Atm, it feels to me as a scar in the middle between a nice low density neighborhood, a high density commercial zone and whatever you'll put behind the railline. I could imagine that land would be quite valuable there, making such an (unnecessarily large) interchange even more out of place.
Either way, you are doing an amazing job! These are just some thoughts, do with them whatever you like :)

Much to her chagrin, see saw the Welcome to Myrtle Park signs when approaching the area and knew this wouldn't do, at all! Biffa, amazing work as always. Two things I thought of for the area:
    1) That roundabout at the interchange is responsible for moving traffic in too many directions. You might need to look at rebuilding that once you have residential setup in the area.
    2) You should add more parking around the train station, and put in a bus terminal there which can run people to the different areas.

    fun video
I know you hate tunnels but at the beginning you have a railway embankment and running two parallel paths either side as you did, just putting short walkways through and under the embankment would have been perfect. Think of how it is done in London lower maintenance than a bridge, less conflict, shorter walking times.
just got to 34:02 and looking at embankment and underpasses haha. though what you created was super pretty. underpasses would save space and embanking the rail line would mean raised train station would be perfect.

    Hey Biffa,
I really think you should connect the road on the opposite sides of the train station maybe from the corner where you put down the warehouse instead like you do say at 27:22. That will help people to come to the new area without going through the roundabout coming from the highway since that road connects to various other part of the city. Hope you see this. Also thanks for the great video 👍 Searching for those poor Tealanders new residential area. 😂🤔😂

As good as the S shape looks, it would make sense to just have the connection underneath the train station and connect the paths directly to the parking lot of the station, so people can directly walk to the platform. I love these episodes where you get all creative with the game. Good choice, the amusement park pathways. it's colourful, has benches ánd lits up at night. And the flowers, there's never enough flowers!
In my corner of the Netherlands there's an amusement park (the Efteling) which is all about the details and the gardens are breathtaking. Dunno if you heard of it. I have gone there with my now 97 year old grandma a few years ago (with a wheelchair) and ofcourse most attractions were of limits. But in that particular park those aren't the main focus at all. We strolled around through countless fairy tale themed scenery routes with an almost sickening amount of colorful flowers. I didn't think she would like to stay out for so long, but she was a bundle of joy all day! ♥

By the train station you can remove the curved flyover because everyone is using the path under the railway. You can then bring it down the train station to the road and give everyone a shorter walk into the new area.

16:03 I dislike the car parks with entertainment value/park coverage, which is a shame because otherwise I like the spiral underground asset. Other than being a bit of a cheat in terms of increasing land value and attracting tourists, that the car park itself is a destination means it can turn red in the traffic view as cars try to park somewhere else to get to it, which negates the entire purpose.
25:52 After creating networks with NMT, I find it useful to highlight all the nodes with Move it and then to set height to terrain. It might need adjusting beyond that, but usually it's 90%+ there.

at 38:41 you put a crossover path next to the station; but being so close to that loop path (which is longer) doesn't it become obsolete? I'd like to see if anyone actually uses it now XD

Biffa you could have just raised the full railway line and put the paths under them the walking bridges over the railway lines is not needed

Thinking outside the box but since you are a mayor with connections; maybe dredge the river and put in a marina for the rich and their yachts. That should theoretically be easily connectable to the entranceway of your future park up into the mountains. Might need a casino in the area too so they can raise awareness and fundraise for the endangered woolly tea tree owls. Skim extra funds from that to put in a ferry stop for the plebes.

I've watched my way through the entirety of New Tealand while spending a great deal of time knitting, and it's been great to watch the city grow. Plus, your videos are very engaging without demanding too much brain power, so that's very nice as well.

    Always enjoyable to watch.
I do think you should have continued the rail twinning project through this area before building anything else. Also, once the elevated train station was chosen, the whole rail probably should have been raised and the paths changed to underneath. That or gone with a ground level station.

One of the fences you placed using the parallel mod is intersecting over the train tracks/. Fair disclosure, haven't finished watching the video to see if you fix it

I’d call the posh area Twinings Station. I love using “Station” or “Esplanade” for high-end shopping areas, and Twinings is a very posh tea according to the website I checked.

As you split the area, and to keep in with the wealth theme, the other area could become The High Tea District, then you'll have one side for biscuits, and one side for scones

20/20 hindsight says "I'm just clinging to this lollercoaster of a rail station because I invested so much time in making the paths go OVER the rails instead of seeing that they're already elevated and just cutting the path crossings underneath."

🤔 That small roundabout (even with 3 lanes) seems to be prioritizing the small amount of traffic coming from the flyover rather than the larger amount coming off the motorway. You may need to have a stop sign for the flyover traffic (as there isn't much of it) and just a yield sign for the offramp traffic to keep them moving? 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️

Good morning Biffa, nice detailing. Why don´t you put more Park entrances to generate more cash, cause this area might be very buissy?
